I was going to have my examination the next day. “When can I go to bed?” I asked myself. I didn’t answer. In fact I dared not. The clock struck twelve. “Oh dear” I cried. “Ten more books to read before I can go to bed!” We pupils are the poorest creatures in the world. Dad does not agree with me on this. He didn’t have to work so hard when he was a boy. The clock struck one. I was quite sad now. I forgot all I had learned. I was too tired to go on. I did the only thing I could. I prayed, “Oh, God, please help me pass the exam tomorrow. I do promise to work hard afterwards, Amen.” My eyes were so heavy that I could hardly open them. One night, his oldest son developed a stomachache. Thinking it was only some common illness, neither Al nor his wife took the condition very seriously. But the illness became acute, and the boy died suddenly that night. Knowing the death could have been prevented if he had only realized the seriousness of the situation, Al’s emotional health was weakened under the effect of his guilt. To make matters worse, his wife died a short time later, leaving him alone with his sixyearold younger son. The hurt and pain of the two situations were more than Al could handle, and he became an alcoholic(酒鬼). As the alcoholism progressed, Al began to lose everything he had—his home, his land, his art objects, everything. Finally Al died alone in a San Francisco motel room. When I heard of Al’s death, I thought he was a loser because he ended his life with nothing material to show for it. As time went by, I began to change my judgment. You see, I knew Al’s now adult son, Ernie. He is one of the kindest, most caring, most loving men I have ever known. I watched Ernie with his children and saw the free flow of love between them. I knew that kindness and caring had to come from somewhere. One day, Ernie told me, “From my earliest memories as a child until I left home at 18, my dad came into my room every night, gave me a kiss and said, ‘I love you, son.’” Tears came to my eyes as I realized what a fool I had been to judge Al as a failure. He had not left any material possessions behind. But he left love to his son, who became one of the finest, most giving men I have ever known. 25. Which has the closest meaning to the underlined word “acute” in Paragraph 1? A. serious B. strong C. heavy D. better 26. What caused Al to be an alcoholic? A. The failure in his work. B. The death of his son and wife. C. His wife’s death because of an illness. D. Having no money to take his son to hospital. 27. What did the author think of Ernie? A. An honest man. B. A strange man. C. A good man. D. A funny man. 28. What can you infer from the passage? A. You can find ways to be a good man. B. Alcohol can cause death. C. Love is the best gift. D. The author regarded Al as a loser. C One devoted man is helping to make sure that children with poor living conditions won’t go hungry during the school day. Mary’s Meals, an organization founded in 2002 by Scottish farmer Magnus Macfarlane- Barrow, provides needy kids in 12 countries with free meals at school each weekday. The group’s aim is to ensure that students have food in their stomachs so they can better fix their attention on the study in class. Macfarlane-Barrow, who runs Mary’s Meals on his father’s farm, told CNN that the entire operation started with a conversation he had with a teen living in a poor state. He said, “In 2002, I was in Malawi during a year of terribly short of food, and I met this family—the father had died, and the mother was dying with her six children around her. I began talking to her oldest child, Edward, who was about 14, and asked him, ‘What are your hopes?’ And he said, ‘I’d like to have enough food to eat, and I’d like to go to school one day’” And that was it. In its first year, the group fed 200 children in need. Since that time, it has made rapid progress. Last month, Mary’s Meals fed more than one million children every school day. That was 5 million meals every week. “The million is amazingly important, but we are far from satisfied. Our work’s just beginning. We’ve proved that this works, and now we’ve just thinking about the next child,” said Macfarlane-Barrow. He and the group recently celebrated the achievement in Malawi, where the program began. So far, the program has had very good results. In Malawi, schools that carried out the Mary’s Meals program saw a 24 percent increase in the number of new students within the first six months. 29. Why did Macfarlane-Barrow found Mary’s Meals? A. He hoped to provide free food for poor families. B. He expected to teach children how to help others. C. He wanted to make children free of hunger in class. D. He wished to become well-known by helping others. 30. What made Macfarlane-Barrow have the idea to start Mary’s Meals? A. The success of helping a needy kid. B. The conversation with a poor child. C. The terribly short of food in Malawi. D. The poor living conditions of schools. 31. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs? A. Schools in Malawi are popular. B. No children suffer from hunger now. C. Mary’s Meals program has been very successful. D. Macfarlane-Barrow is satisfied with the present result. 32. What can be the best title for the text? A. Edward’s Dream Came into Reality B. Mary’s Meals Program Shocked the World C. Malawi Gets Away from Being Short of Food D. A Farmer Feeds One Million Kids Every School Day 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Do you want to be at the top of your class? Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student! 33 I cannot stress (强调) enough how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worthwhile to add. Pay attention during class, especially during lectures. Taking notes is important. You don’t need to write down every word your teacher says but write down what he/ she writes on the board, or any special fact you think you might need for a test. 34 This way it will help you learn more effectively by actually thinking about what you are writing. Don’t skip school (逃学). 35 It is true that you could make up the work. However, you will have more work because you have missed lectures and in-class activities. Also, try not to be late for class. It’s most likely that your teachers won’t appreciate it and you will get yourself behind. 36 If you have an “I don’t care about school or this class” attitude, then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems. The same goes for a lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students. Try not to laugh when other students make a mistake. Always ask questions. 37 If you don’t understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, seek help. Ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, ect. Get a tutor if you need one. A. Hold on to it. B. Write in your own words. C. Staying organized will be helpful. D. You will be missing something out. E. Keep a good attitude towards things. F. We loved basketball and were both huge fans of the NBA. My favourite player was LeBron James. Paul’s favourite player was Tyrone Bogues, a guy who played for the Charlotte Hornets. In fact, we actually agree that they are both champions. Bogues was only 1.6 metres tall, which made him the shortest ever player in the NBA. And guess what? Paul was only 1.6 metres tall, too! Paul knew that being shorter than other players meant that he had to practise more. During all those hours of doing jump shots on his own, he used Bogues as his inspiration. Paul once said, “If Bogues could make it, why not me?” Our coach was not so sure. Paul had to try out many times just for making the team. He was still usually on the bench, being just a replacement. Everyone knew Paul had real skills, and had a strong desire to play for the team. However, Paul didn’t get a chance. This week, The Lions were playing our main competitors, The Bears, a team whose record this season had been perfect. They hadn’t lost a single game. It would be a tough one. Paul didn’t know he’d soon get the chance that he’d been waiting for. Suddenly, a player and I crashed into each other. My knee hurt badly. The team gathered around, looking worried. The last quarter was about to begin, and my team was behind by 10 points. “I don’t think I can play anymore, Coach,” I said quietly as the doctor put an ice pack on my knee. “No way,” the Coach replied sharply. “We’ve got no more players!” “What about Paul?” someone suggested. “Paul?” said the Coach. “He can’t play!” “Give him a shot, Coach!” I said. “What have we got to lose?” “That’s right,” another player said. “We’re losing anyway. Let Paul play!” “Let me try, Coach! I won’t let you down!” Paul said. “OK, OK!” The Coach finally agreed. “Don’t let us down, Paul. It’s your time to shine.” 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为60左右; 2. 应使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 5. 提示词:球场court Paul jumped up and rushed onto the court.________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ The game ended. ____________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ 英语试题参考答案 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 1-5 BCAAB 6-10 BAABC 11-15 BCACB 16-20 ACCBC 第二部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分40分) 第一节 (共12小题;每小题2.5分,满分30分) 21-24 BDCD 25-28 ABCC 29-32 CBCD 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 33-37 GBDEF 第三部分 英语知识运用 (共三节,满分40分) 第一节 完形填空 (共15小题;每题1分,满分15分) 38-42 DCCAD 43-47 BACBB 48-52 AACBD 第二节 单词拼写 (共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 53-57 addicted curious responsible volunteer failures 58-62 official improving graduated explore positive/optimistic 第三节 按要求完成句子 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 63.
