Heart- broken Find one of your favourite fish in the sea at Ireland’s Matchma -king Festival in June. According to the passage, we can learn the festival doctor specializes in ________. A. treating people falling ill during festivals B. listening to people’s complaints during festivals C. offering a cure through the festival form D. celebrating the festivals with the patients B “Now stretch over your right leg!” my dance teacher yells over the music. “If it doesn't hurt, you're not trying hard enough. Hold that stretch for 30 seconds!" My dance teacher works hard to form us into the dancers we desire to be. In order for this to occur, we stretch hard a lot! Dancing is a real passion of many people, including me. I work hard to make myself better, and prove that I am good enough. Performing a dance routine is more than just a performance. Dancers tell stories when they dance. It is a way for us to express our personal feelings. Just letting go and letting your body move with the music can create your emotions. Dance tells us things that our mind secretly hides. “Get up and do it again! You need to keep your spirits up!” Even though I am completely worn out after my dances, I love to hear those words. It gives me a sense of relief knowing that I can again express my feelings out on the floor. “Practice makes perfect! Come on. We have a competition this weekend, and we need to work harder!” Competitions are the best possible example of fun. For a dancer, life cannot get better than competitions. The thrill of losing yourself onstage is a rush of energy rushing through your body! The feeling is unexplainable. As you sit there putting on your makeup, fixing your hair, and putting on your costume, the rush just gradually grows until it is ready to be released onstage. Finally the time comes to tell your story. Standing backstage waiting for your name to be called is one of the scariest moments. You are ready to show the world what you are capable of and what you have been perfecting for a while. Once your number is called, you walk out onstage. The applause at the end tells each dancer that their story has been received, and that the dance has been brought to life. 24. What does the author's dance teacher require her to do during the dance class? A. Build up her confidence. B. Keep encouraged and cheerful. C. Train her body to the fullest. D. Understand the music. 25. How does the author understand dancing according to the text? A. It is a good way to release stress. B. It takes talent, confidence and patience to dance well. C. It is no more than a performance with our bodies. D. It is a way to show our personal emotions. 26. As far as the author is concerned, a dance competition means . A. an improvement in her life. B. an opportunity to have fun. C. a reflection of her perfect thoughts. D. a way to experience the scariest moment. 27. What would be the best title for the text? A. Bringing dance to life B. Training for competitions C. Dancers' special feelings D. Encouragement from my teacher C When I first started university, I remembered hearing about bone marrow(骨髓)donation during Freshman’s Week. Some students volunteers from a group called Marrow tried to convince me to attend an event so I could learn more about it. The word “bone” immediately made me think that donating would be a painful procedure, so I refused. Back then, there was no way I could have known three years later, I would be one of the many people that desperately needs a bone marrow donor to save their lives. I am currently waiting to be matched with a donor and if I am lucky enough to find a good match, it will be this lovely stranger that saves my life. I received my cancer diagnosis in June. It is only at that time that I realized how ignorant I had been about the bone marrow donation process. The process of donating stem cells is actually very simple. In 90% of cases, donors are asked to donate their blood stem cells, the other 10% will give their bone marrow. Lots of donors say that both these things are virtually pain free, and nothing to be scared about. Being a bone marrow donor should be something to be proud of, as every donor has an opportunity to save someone’s life! At the moment I know that the doctors are busy searching for a match, I simply live every day in the hope that there will be a donor right for me. If I have an opportunity for life, I won’t waste it. When I was a first year at university, I made the mistake of walking away from becoming a stem cell donor. Please don’t make the same mistake that I did. There are so many people out there, including myself, that need your help; and by undergoing a simple, pain-free procedure, you could have the chance to proudly say that you saved someone’s life. 28. Why did the author refuse to learn more about bone marrow donation before? A. Because she could get nothing from it. B. Because she thought that donating would be painful. C. Because she had known nothing about it. D. Because she was in poor health. 29. What can we learn from the underlined sentence in paragraph1? A. The author was concerned about others. B. The author was confident about the bone marrow donation. C. The author needs the bone marrow donation now. D. The author donates her bone marrow to save others. 30. The author needs the bone marrow because she got . A. cancer B. headache C. flu D. high blood pressure 31. The author told us her story to A. show us the experience of her college life. B. explain the cause of her cancer. C. recall her painful past. D. encourage people to be a bone marrow donor. D The trouble of having to charge your smart phone for hours a day could become a thing of the past. British scientists have created a material that replaces the screen glass for phones, i-pad and smartwatches, but uses no power—meaning they could be charged weekly. The discovery is important because more than 90 percent of a device’s battery power illuminates(照明)the screen. Technology firms have focused on improving battery life. But the British experts say dealing with the main power-using may give better results. Oxford University engineer Dr Peiman Hosseini, who invented the material, told the Sunday Telegraph: “You have to charge smartwatches every night. But if you had smart glass, you could recharge it just once a week.” The invention uses electrical pulses to create displays that require no power and can be viewed even in direct sunlight. Dr Hosseini’s company, Bodle Technologies, hopes to have a prototype(样机)in a year. Battery life is seen as a major obstruction for modern computing and technology. While the power of technology and lifestyle gadgets has improved rapidly in recent years, batteries have not kept pace. The success of smart watches, including Apple’s version, is thought to depend on solving this problem because few users are willing to charge a watch every day. Gadget firms are also desperate to solve the problem. Apple, for example, is investigating using fuel cells to power its phones and laptops, and this year had gained a patent for a system that it claimed could power its gadget for weeks. In 2012 US energy secretary Steven Chu called for a big push to improve batteries, challenging scientists to produce a battery with five times the capacity within five years. Aside from mobile gadgets, improving battery technology is seen as being key to the success of electric cars, which currently have a limited journey before they must stop to be recharged. 32. Who invented the new material? A. Energy secretary. B. Oxford University engineer. C. Technology firms. D. Apple Corps. 33. What can we know about the invention? A. It has gained a patent. B. It is popular with customers. C. It is a kind of glass. D. It uses power to charge the phones. 34. The author uses the example of Apple in para7 to show________________. A. what the key to success is B. why Apple products are popular C. how often batteries must be recharged D. how gadget firms are making efforts to improve batteries 35. What can be inferred from the passage? A. 90% of batteries will be replaced with smart glass. B. It is likely that mobile phones will be recharged once a week. C. Scientists are focusing on increasing the number of batteries. D. Many users are willing to pay more for watches of Apple version. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Family vacations are a must whenever you have time.
