Sihanoukville, Cambodia is a seaside town located 200km or a fourhour bus ride away from the country's capital, Phnom Penh. With several beaches and small offshore islands, it is definitely not a place to miss out if you are intending to visit Angkor Wat, as the beaches there are stunning and still unspoiled by mass tourism. Serendipity Beach Serendipity Beach is the most popular beach for the masses, since it is the most accessible beach, being the nearest one from the main town area. There are plenty of bars scattered around the beach, so be prepared for the crazy parties every night. Ochheuteal Beach Ochheuteal Beach is located south of Serendipity Beach, and it's a bit of an improvement from Serendipity Beach itself in terms of the people that go there. Over here, there are bars and pubs, but at night, don't expect wild parties like at the Serendipity Beach area. Otres Beach All the way down south, near Moat Peam, lies a hidden gem called Otres Beach. This is where you can get your yoga suit on and practice meditation(冥想). This is the quietest beach in Sihanoukville and it is the least crowded, with very few parties. If your idea of a beach holiday is just yourself and the sun, sea and sand, this place is for you. Koh Rong Koh Rong is an island off Sihanoukville that is covered with beautiful sandy beaches. True relaxation lies at Long Beach, which is located on the other side of the island. Clear water surrounds the beach, and once you get there, you'll be greeted with fine white sand. Koh Rong doesn't have any roads, so there are no cars or motorbike rentals — everything is mostly on foot. 1. Why is Serendipity Beach the most popular with tourists? A. There are a lot of wild parties. B. It is the nearest beach from the main town area. C. The food and drink are varied. D. It has plenty of cheap bars and pubs. 1. Which place may be the best choice for a quiet sun bath? A. Serendipity Beach. B. Ochheuteal Beach. C. Otres Beach. D. Long Beach. 2. What is special about the beaches in Cambodia? A. They are less developed and visited. B. They are not easily accessible. C. They are within walking distance to its capital. D. They offer tasty seafood. B One of the greatest sources of unhappiness, in my experience, is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are. When we see something we don't like, we wish it could be different. We cry out for something better. That may be human nature, or perhaps it’s something ingrained(根深蒂固的) in our culture. The root of the unhappiness isn't necessarily that we want things to be different. However, it's that we decided we didn't like it in the first place. We've judged it as bad, rather than saying, “It's not bad or good, and it just is it. ” In one of my books, I said “You should expect people to mess up and expect things to go differently than you planned”. Some readers said it’s too sorrowful to expect things to go wrong. However, it's only negative if you see it as negative and judge it as bad. Instead, you could accept it as the way the world works and try to understand why that is. This can be applied to whatever you do: how other people act at work, how politics works and how depressing the news media can be. Accept these things as they are, and try to understand why they're that way. It will save you a lot of sadness, because you'll no longer say, “Oh. I wish bad things didn't happen!” Does it mean you can never change things? Not at all. But change things not because you can't accept things as they are, but because you enjoy the process of changing, learning and growing. Can we make this world a better place? You can say that you’ll continue to try to do things to help others, to grow as a person, to make a difference in this world. That's the correct path you choose to take, because you enjoy that path. Therefore, when you find yourself judging and wishing for difference, try a different approach:accept, and understand. It might lead to some interesting results. 1. The author believes that we feel unhappy maybe because ___________. A. it is our natural emotion in the life B. culture asks us to be different from others C. everyone has their own opinions on things D. we dislike something in the beginning 2. What does the underlined word "it" In Paragraph 4 refers to? A. Acting well at work and in politics. B. Feeling depressed for the news media. C. Accepting and understanding what has happened. D. Saying something negative when bad things come. 3. What are you advised according to the last paragraph? A. Help others and make a difference B. Enjoy what you have to do in the work C. Judge yourself and make a wish for you D. Try a new way when making the world better 4. What is the main theme of the passage? A. Accepting can make our life happier and better. B. Expecting things to be different gives us hope. C. Traditional culture becomes root of unhappiness. D. Judging good or bad is important for our world. C Google's new camera, called Clips, is a small, smart device. It comes with a case that has a clip (夹子),but it’s not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photography out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own. This roughly 2-inch by 2-inch camera, with a three-hour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smartphone. Onboard the Clips device, it uses machine learning algorithms (计算程序) to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. “Once it learns that there's a face you see frequently, it’ll try to get nice photos of those faces,” said Juston Payne, the device’s product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, which involved “training it to know what happiness looks like”. The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shoot — like when a child’s hand is over the lens, or if it is tossed in a dark purse. The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing. Were people concerned it could seem strange? Yes, Payne admitted. But they said they addressed that by making it obvious what it is. A green light on the front signals that it is on. Besides, unlike a camera meant to monitor your home, it is not connected to the Internet. “This product is only possible because of the way that silicon has advanced” Payne said, noting that it was only in the past year or so that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. Going forward, we’re likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps and gadgets. 1. What is the most outstanding feature of Clips? A. It is equipped with tough glass. B. It enables easy internet access. C. It allows of hands-free photography. D. It can be worn on your clothing. 2. What does the underlined word “candid”, in Paragraph 2 mean? A. brief B. touching. C. unforgettable. D. embarrassing. 1. What makes Clips a reality according to Juston Payne? A. The popularity of the Internet. B. The advance in technology. C. The rise of the smartphone industry. D. The reduction in the price of lens. 2. What is the best title for the text? A. A New Digital Camera from Google. B. New Gadgets in the Age of Apps. C. Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life. D. An Alternative Way to Photograph. D College graduation eventually means taking much of your attention in your first job search. This process can be challenging, especially for those students who had second thoughts about their chosen major and intended career path — or those who majored in a field not directly connected to a specific career. If you are in one of these groups, fear not! Although your major, coursework, and academic performance are relevant to landing a job, they are not the only deciding factors on where you can work. So, just how important is your major to your job search? Some majors are tied directly to specific career fields. For example, if you wish to become a teacher, you will likely have needed to complete an education program and eventually sit for a licensing exam. Successfully completing a specific major is very important to landing a job in the matching field. Other majors, however, are closely related to career paths but don’t necessarily require a degree in the area. For example, students who majored in finance or math, may also have the necessary skills to be hired as an accountant. Lastly, there are many industries, such as professional sales, education (non-teaching positions), insurance, and customer service management, which hire new graduates from several more majors, looking for more generalized (笼统的) requirements. They may simply want to know the student has completed his or her bachelor’s degree, which proves students’ college-level math and writing, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Hopefully, as a college student, you were able to do more than just attend classes. Your non-academic experiences can be very influential on your future career as well. If you worked or volunteered during college and if you enjoyed these activities, seek out related careers. You may qualify for a position regardless of your major. Although it often seems like your college major alone determines your career fate, this just isn’t the case. It may influence it, but there are other factors that influence your career options as well. If you don’t know what career choices you have, talk to your faculty or academic adviser. You may be surprised at what opportunities await! 1. What is probably the best title for the passage? A. Major Ups Your Career B. Why Your College Major Matters C. How Important Your Major Is to Your Job D. Major VS Career: Which Is Right for You 2. To be a customer service manager, college graduates______. A. need to have related qualities B. should pass a licensing exam C. are required to major in insurance D. must have relevant experiences 3. The writer thinks that _____________. A. majors are closely linked to career paths B. students of finance tend to receive higher salaries C. volunteer experiences help graduates get employed D. social work graduates have more employment opportunities 4. Which of the following shows the organization of the passage? Are anger problems should also be recognized as an illness like depression and anxiety? Anger is largely viewed as a secondary emotion — one caused by other emotions. People are thought to be angry because they are sad, anxious or stressed. 36 Today, though, a growing number of mental health experts think that anger is a serious problem that needs its own treatment. To tell the difference between “normal” anger and “anger problem” is difficult. After all, everyone gets really mad from time to time. Experts point out a few ways. Disordered anger, as it is sometimes called, tends to be of greater intensity (强度). 37 An example: While most people would get upset if a driver cut them off, someone with disordered anger might try to chase down the car and force it off the road. And in cases of disordered anger, the person gets angry more frequently and his/her anger lasts longer. 38 But people with anger problems often stay angry for days, weeks or even years; their feelings of anger don’t disappear over time. 39 Disordered anger often damages people’s lives. “It interferes (干扰) with people’s relationships and their jobs,” says Raymond Chip Tafrate, a US psychologist. “Even their health is affected.” Anger clearly increases the risk of certain health problems, as many studies have shown. When people are angry, their hearts beat faster and their blood pressure goes up. 40 Experts suggest that people with an anger problem take anger-management programs. The programs teach people to control their responses to stressful situations through the use of relaxation techniques. The programs sometimes also include life-skills training to help bring down stress and remove angry feelings. A. Anger takes away people’s joy in life. B. Consequences are also important to consider: C. The anger buried inside him rises to the surface. D. For most people, angry feelings disappear quickly. E. Over time, these changes will have bad effects on the body. F. In the past, many doctors didn’t accept the idea that anger could be a problem all on its own. G. It takes very little to set off a person with an anger problem, and their responses are very strong. The Little Angel Sally jumped up the moment she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room.
