Or does the thought of wandering round the shops fill you with terror? For some of us, shopping is an enjoyable way of spending our spare time and our money. For me, it’s something I would rather avoid. Thank goodness for the Internet! It’s more convenient to buy CDs, electrical items, even food, from the comfort of your sofa. But that’s not the only reason:price is an important factor. We can buy goods and services cheaper online. But sometimes the problem is knowing what to buy. This has led to a type of shopping called "showrooming". Showrooming is something I’ve done. I will go to a shop to see, touch and try out products but then go home and buy them online at a knock-down price. I’m not alone in doing this. Research by a company called Foolproof, found 24% of people showroomed while Christmas shopping in 2013. Amy Cashman, head of Technology at TNS UK, says the reasons for this new shopping habit are that"people are lacking time, lacking money and they want security about the products they are buying". She explains that consumers are not only shopping online at home but they are using the Internet in store or on their smartphones to shop around. But does this mean technology will kill shops? Certainly shops will change. They will have to offer more competitive prices or encourage people to buy more by giving in-store discounts or free gifts. We mustn’t forget that buying in a shop means you can get expert advice from the sales assistant and you can get good aftercare. It’s good to speak to a real human rather than look at a faceless computer screen but at least by showrooming, you get the best of both worlds! 21. The two questions in Paragraph l are raised to . A. get answers from readers B. compare different opinions C. introduce the topic D. give two examples 22. What does showrooming mean in the text? A. Shopping on the Internet. B. Buying something in a store. C. Showing products in a room. D. Trying in shops and buying online. 23.What can be inferred from Paragraph 4 ? A.Shops will be replaced by online shops. B.Shops need necessary changes. C.Free gifts will surely promote sales. D.Online shops will disappear. 24. The author’s attitude towards showrooming is. A. supportive B. casual C. neutral D. critical B Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous;be understanding. Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always count on one another to speak and act honestly. Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes, or enjoy, like our hobbies and your interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better. Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve . Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so you can understand the problem better. No two friendships are ever exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty. Generosity and understanding. 25. According to the passage , honesty is . A. as important as money B. something countable C. more important than anything else D. the base of a friendship 26. Which of the following is NOT true in the passage? A. Sharing your mind with your friend is of great value. B. Discussing your problems with your friend often helps to solve the problem. C. A friend who gives you his lunch money is a true friend. D. Always tell your friend the truth. 27. According to the author, how do you help your friend know you better? A. Give your lunch money or your clothes to your friend. B. Share your ideas and feelings with your friend C. Don’t tell the truth to your friend D. Ask your friend for everything C One should be moderate(适度)in all things. Moderation is always the safest way to do things and a virtue(品质)we should have. Let's take the student life for example. There are some students who study too hard and play too little, while there are others who play too much and study too little. On one hand, it is harmful to his health if he has too few exercises, and on the other hand, it is harmful to his mind if he plays too much. In the matter of eating, one also should be moderate. Do not eat too much or too little. Too much eating will make you sick, while too little eating will make you weak. The man of progress is he who neither has too high an opinion of himself nor thinks too poorly of himself. If a man thinks too highly of himself, he is sure to become very proud, but if he has too poor an opinion of himself, he will have no courage to make an advance. Both the conditions above will make you lose your advancing aim. A broadminded man is he who always moves within the orbit (轨道)of reasonableness. Whether in any activities in life, moderation is one of the best ways to enjoy real happiness. 28.Someone is moderate means ______ . A.he has good characters and good ways to do things B.he walks neither too fast nor too slowly C.he is not only safe but also successful D.he is either tall or short 29.The writer suggests that a student should ______ . A.have much more time to study than to play B.spend most of the time playing different games C.correctly arrange (安排)his time for study and play D.only study hard without any time to play 30.Moderate eating means ______ . A.eating as much food as one can if the food is tasty B.eating food rich of fat C.eating either too much or too little D.eating a proper amount of food 31.If one wants to be broad-minded, he must ______ . A.believe in himself B.do everything that is reasonable C.be full of courage D.enjoy real happiness D After seven years of preparation, England kicked off the 2012 Summer Olympic Games on Friday. NBC estimates (估计) that 4 billion viewers tuned in (收看) from around the world to watch the opening ceremonies in London England. Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle directed the opening ceremonies. The show cost $42 million and required 15,000 volunteers. An Exciting Opening Boyle’s ceremonies took audiences through a history of England. The performance began in the English countryside, continued with the building of factories and cities and ended up in the modern age, with performers testing and using cell phones. Next, the athletes, coaches and officials from the 205 nations competing made their way into the stadium during the Parade of Nations. The ceremonies ended with the lighting of the Olympic flame and Paul McCartney, former member of the famous rock band The Beatles, singing the song “Hey Jude”. Super Surprises The opening weekend of competition took some unexpected turns. American swimmer Ryan Lochte surprised the world when he beat teammate Michael Phelps to win a gold medal in the 400-meter individual medley (混合泳). It was the first time Phelps did not win a medal in an Olympic race since 2000, when Phelps was 15.” I had a chance to put myself in a good spot, and I didn’t do it,” Phelps said after the race. “It’s pretty upsetting, but the biggest thing now is to try to get back and move forward.” Even more surprising was China’s 16-year-old Ye Shiwen’s unbelievable performance in the women’s 400-meter individual medley. Ye set the first swimming world record this year, even swimming faster than men’s gold medalist, Lochte, during the final 50 meters of the race! Though many expected to see American gymnast Jordyn Wieber take home gold in the women’s all gymnastics final, Wieber did not qualify (使具有资格) for the event. Only two gymnasts from each country can qualify, and Wieber was beaten by teammates Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman. With the Games just getting under way, there are likely many more surprises. What else will surprise fans around the world? You’ll have to watch to find out! 32. The underlined phrase “kicked off” in Paragraph 1 means ______. A. attended B. started C. held D. celebrated 33.
