It found that 51% of the children got the recommended nine to eleven hours of uninterrupted sleep per night, 37% met the recreational screen time limit of two hours or less per day, while 18% met the physical activity recommendation of at least 60 minutes of accumulated physical activity a day. Only 5% of the children in the study met all three recommendations; 30% met none at all. ‎ The researchers found that as each recommendation was met by a participant, there was a positive association with global cognition, which includes memory, attention, processing speed and language. Those who met all three had the most "superior" global cognition, followed by those meeting the sleep and screen time recommendation and finally the screen time recommendation alone, according to the study. ‎ Other organizations, such as the American‎ ‎Academy of Pediatrics have guidelines in place to help with the management of children's screen time. The organization suggests putting realistic rules or limits in place for how long your children are on their screens, knowing who they are talking to and what they are doing. The amount of recommended screen time depends on the age of the child. Besides, parents should also make sure to encourage physical activity and have bedroom rules such as creating "tech-free zones". ‎ ‎28. Who are the target readers of this passage?‎ ‎ A. Researchers. B. Teachers. C. Parents. D. Children.‎ ‎29. What is the main idea of this passage?‎ ‎ A. A study on children’s screen time is published.‎ ‎ B. US children fail to meet movement guidelines.‎ ‎ C. Organizations are concerned about children’s cognition.‎ ‎ D. Limitation on children's screen time is linked to better cognition.‎ ‎30. According to the passage, which of the following might contributes least to cognition?‎ ‎ A. Screen time limit. B. Sleep hours. ‎ ‎ C. Physical activity time. D. Sleep and screen time .‎ ‎31. Why does the American organization suggest creating "tech-free zones”?‎ ‎ A. To make sure children have enough physical playtime.‎ ‎ B. To make sure children have enough sleep time. ‎ ‎ C. To make sure children have recreational time.‎ ‎ D. To protect children against radiation.‎ D At one time it was the dream of many little girls to become a nurse. Today, however, America is facing its worst nurse shortage since World War I. Recently about 2,000,000 nurses are needed and 60 percent of all hospitals in the US have shortages, large enough to threaten the quality of care provided. The demand for nurses spreads widely throughout the nursing field.‎ What has become of these women in white? The answer lies in not one but several causes. One possibility is the fact that women have greater career options. In the past, women who chose to work outside the home had two basic choices: nursing or teaching. Today, more women than ever are in the workforce, but their options have greatly increased. There are women doctors, lawyers, firefighters and police officers. In fact, women today are found in nearly every field of work. Nursing has been left behind, as women move on to jobs with higher pay and greater status. A woman or man in the nursing field is often looked down upon as“merely a nurse”. Teachers many be also at fault. Many high school students are actually away from nursing, told by teachers that they are“too bright to be a nurse”.‎ Americans are living longer than ever and requiring more medical attention. In fact, the number of elderly patients has almost doubled in the past twenty years. Obviously a larger population requires more nurses. AIDS and other diseases have caused more and more people to need nursing care. Usually deadly diseases mean long hospital stay, that is to say, more nurses are needed to care for these patients. It is estimated that the demand for nurses will be doubled the supply in the coming ten years.‎ ‎32. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?‎ A. How teachers have influenced their students.‎ B. What has caused nurse shortage.‎ C. How nurses have been looked down upon.‎ D. Why women have chosen many different jobs.‎ ‎33. The passage tells that high school teachers are at fault for .‎ A. not mentioning the worst nurse shortage in the ‎US B. introducing jobs with higher pay and greater status to their students C. persuading the students not to be nurses D. not asking the government to raise the nurses’ payment ‎34. The author writes the passage in order to .‎ A. warn people to pay more attention to the nursing problem C. tell us women’s free choices of jobs today B. call on women to choose different kinds of jobs D. describe the unequal treatment of women in the ‎US ‎35. It can be inferred from the passage that .‎ A. of all the hospitals in the world 60 percent more nurses are badly needed B. women in the US have greater career choices than those in other countries C. high school students think themselves too bright to be nurses D. nursing used to be a popular job among women 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Exercise ‎ Exercise is a way of keeping the body healthy through being active. Another name for exercise is physical fitness. Most people exercise in their spare time. Sports are some of the most popular ways to get exercise.‎ The two main kinds of exercise are aerobic exercise(有氧运动)and anaerobic exercise(无氧运动). Sports such as football and basketball are great forms of exercises. 36 ‎ Aerobic exercise is energetic movement that lasts for a certain period of time. 37 The lungs and the heart work harder to bring in extra oxygen. Swimming, cycling, running and rapid walking are good examples of aerobic exercise.‎ Anaerobic exercise is a powerful burst of movement followed by a period of rest. During anaerobic exercise the muscles need more energy than the body can make with its supply of oxygen. After the exercise a person feels out of breath because the muscles have worked without oxygen. 38 ‎ Exercise affects every part of the body in positive ways. It improves balance and coordination(协调). 39 Exercise strengthens the heart and increases the lungs’ ability to take in oxygen. Through exercise the bones and muscles get stronger, and the whole body becomes healthy and strong. ‎ ‎ 40 People who exercise generally have a more positive, happy attitude. ‎ A. This is because they combine both of these types.‎ B. Frequent and regular exercise helps prevent diseases.‎ C. Exercise also gives people a greater feeling of well-being.‎ D. It also improves posture, or the resting position of the body.‎ E. Weight lifting, jumping, and golfing are all types of anaerobic exercise.‎ F. It’s been a few weeks since he first started going, so Mary and I are pretty used to it now. You should have seen Mary cry when she was about to set off on first day, though.‎ W: I think that' s normal reaction for mothers to have. How does he get to the kindergarten?‎ M: Mary walks there with him every day, unless the weather is bad. If it's raining, they’ll drive or take a bus. But most days it’s sunny.‎ W: And is Ryan enjoying kindergarten?‎ M: He loves having other kids to play with. Only last week, they learnt how to tie their shoes. Ryan was the first one to get it finished.‎ W: What do the teachers at kindergarten say about him?‎ M: They said that he s starting to learn how to tell time. Step by step, he s learning the alphabet, too. They say he is very clever. ‎ ‎(Text9)‎ W: How was your trip, Dan? I d love to go round the world.‎ M: It was great. First I went to London, but only for a few days as it rained all the time.‎ W: You went to Paris next, didn’t you?‎ M: Well. Paris wasn’t at all sunny but it was better than London -- a bit cloudy.‎ W: Did you go up the Eiftel‎ ‎Tower?‎ M: Yes, I had a great time! I went to Cairo to see the Pyramids after leaving there.‎ W: Was it very hot?‎ M: It wasn’t as hot as in summer. It was quite windy actually.‎ W: I'd love to go there.‎ M: Yes, you' d like it. I went to Sydney next. I didn’t get to the famous Bondi‎ ‎Beach as there were a lot of thunderstorms. I did do some shopping there.‎ W: I bet that was expensive.‎ M: It wasn’t as expensive as here in Tokyo.‎ W: And then you went to the USA, didn’t you? ‎ M: Yes, to San Francisco. I wasn’t feeling very well that day so I missed the Golden Gate‎ ‎Bridge! But it was warmer than some of the other places.‎ ‎(Text 10)‎ Thank you all for coming to our college’s open evening. In a short while I’ll take you around the different departments and facilities. The college has a total of 970 students. You are among the 520 new students joining us this year. Student numbers are growing and this is an increase on last year when there were 430 new students. ‎ First, I’ll take you to the Robinson‎ ‎Building where some student work is on display --- including a small photographic exhibition. Every month there are lectures by professional artists.‎ ‎ The building is also used by the Film Club and you’ll be able to pick up more information there if you are interested.‎ Afterwards I’ll take you to the Sports Centre. You’ll notice some building work going on around there. But don't worry. It’ll be finished before next term. The college has a range of sports clubs and many teams take part in national competitions. All students can use the facilities after lessons but towards the end of next term students sit their exams in the centre and it will be closed then.‎ After the tour there's no need to return here to the college hall. It's probably a good idea to go back to the departments you’re Interested in and speak to some of the students there. You’ll be able to meet your subject teachers on your first day and they will help you with any other questions that you still have.‎
