河北省张家口市宣化区宣化第一中学2019-2020学年高二下学期5月月考英语试卷
英语试卷 一、阅读理解(本大题共16小题,共32.0分) A Yesterday night, over a dinner with my elder brother's family, a topic of happiness came up. My wife, Marla, a psychologist, was sharing Csikszentmihalyi's concept of "flow" with us. Marla explained that according to the research on flow, people are happiest when they are absorbed in a task that is just challenging enough for them to experience a sense of mastery(熟练). A few moments later my brother, Yuri, offered the following opinion: "The first and only, necessary and sufficient factor for happiness is to stop associating happiness with pleasure. The two - happiness and pleasure - have nothing to do with each other." This morning, with my cup of coffee, I searched through a pile of books on my bedside table and-at the bottom-found a book by Bertrand Russell, I started reading but didn't finish. In it, I found the following thought: "The human animal, like others, is adapted to a certain amount of struggle for life, and when by means of great wealth homo sapiens can gratify all his whims (突发奇想) without effort, the mere absence of effort from his life removes an essential ingredient of happiness." The conversation came full circle: people are happiest when they are in a state of flow (Csikszentmihalyi's language )…which is the effortful devotion in a moment…which has nothing to do with pleasure. Indeed, as Yuri insisted : happiness-as-pleasure is a myth; the association between happiness and pleasure is nothing but a semantic(语义的) habit; psychologically, the two-happiness and pleasure-are arguably different; and breaking up this association between pleasure and happiness might, in fact, be a powerfully first step in pursuit of happiness. As I look back on that exchange, I recall that there was an effort, a struggle to find a common understanding about this seemingly difficult idea-a struggle that made me happy. 1. The author wrote this text mainly to ______ . A. look back on the happy night B. advise readers to read Bertrand Russell C. tell readers how to be happiest D. show different opinions on family gathering 2. According to Marla, people feel happiest when they ______ . A. get what they want without effort B. master the happiness around them C. involve themselves in a challenging task D. experience things that can bring pleasure 3. What writing style is used by the author to explain happiness? ______ A. Giving examples. B. Using quotes. C. Making comparisons. D. Offering arguments. 4. The best title of the text may probably be ______ . A. The struggle for life B. Happiness as pleasure C. A topic over the dinner D. The effort for happiness B A machine that takes sweat-laden (浸满汗水的) clothes and turns the sweat into drinking water is in use in Sweden. The machine makes the clothes turn round quickly, heats them to remove the sweat, and then passes the steam through a kind of special material to make purified water. Since it has been brought into use, its creators say more than 1000 people have drunk others' "sweat" in Gothenburg. They add the liquid is cleaner than local tap water. The device was built for the United Nations' child-focused charity UNICEF to promote a campaign highlighting the fact that 780 million people in the world lack access to clean water. The machine was designed and built by the engineer Andreas Hammar, known locally for his appearances on TV tech show "Mekatronik". He said the key part of the sweat machine was a new water purification part developed by a company named HVR. "It uses a technique called membrane distillation (膜蒸馏)," he told the BBC. "We use a special kind of material that only lets steam through but keeps bacteria, salts, clothing fibers and other things out. They have something similar to the International Space Station, but our machine is cheaper to build. The amount of water it produces depends on how sweaty the person is, but one person's T-shirt typically produces 10ml, about a mouthful." The device has been put on show at the Gothia Cup-the world's largest international youth football tournament. Mattias Ronge, chief executive of Stockholm-based advertising agency Deportivo, said the machine had helped raise awareness for UNICEF, but in reality had its limitations. "People haven't produced as much sweat as we hoped - right now the weather in Gothenburg is lousy," Mattias Ronge said. "So we've equipped the machine with exercise bikes and volunteers are cycling like crazy. Even so, the demand for sweat is greater than the supply. And the machine will never be produced in large numbers, since there are better solutions out there such as water purifying pills." 1. Which of the following is the disadvantage of the sweat machine? ______ A. The amount of water the machine produces is rather limited. B. It takes too long for the machine to produce water. C. It costs a large amount of money to build the machine. D. The water processed by the machine is not clean enough. 2. UNICEF is mentioned in the text to ______ . A. show how the sweat machine works B. show the importance of the United Nations C. explain why the sweat machine was invented D. tell us who invented the sweat machine 3. What did Mattias Ronge think of the sweat machine? ______ A. It could only be used in summer. B. It was not worth popularizing. C. It did not work at all. D. The water it produced tasted sweet. 4. The text is written mainly to tell us that ______ . A. 780million people in the world lack access to clean water B. a machine which turns sweat into drinking water is invented C. a better solution to purifying dirty water is discovered D. the pill which turns dirty water into clean water is produced C Sure, it's good to get along with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant. And yes, it's good to get along with your teacher because, in general, it's smart to learn how to relate to the different types of people you'll meet throughout your life. But really, there's one super-important reason why you should get along with your teacher. Kids who get along with their teachers not only learn more, but they're more comfortable asking question and getting extra help. This makes it easier to understand new materials and do your best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school issues. As a kid in elementary or middle school, you're at a wonderful stage in your life. You're like a sponge (海绵), able to suck up lots of new and exciting information. On top of that, you're able to think about all this information in new ways. Your teacher knows that, and in most cases, is thrilled to be the person who's giving you all that material and helping you put it together. Remember, teachers are people, too, and they feel great if you're open to what they're teaching you. That's why they wanted to be teachers in the first place to teach! Some kids may be able to learn in any setting, whether they like the teacher or not. But most kids are sensitive to the way they get along with the teacher, and if things aren't going well, they won't learn as well and won't enjoy being in class. 1. What else will you learn from your teacher except knowledge? ______ A. How to get in touch with other teachers. B. How to deal with different types of people in the future. C. How to get along with classmates in your school. D. How to solve difficult problems in learning. 2. What does the text mainly talk about? ______ A. The benefits of getting along well with the teacher. B. Advantages of making the class interesting. C. The responsibilities of the teacher. D. The relationship between the teacher and students. 3. What does a good relationship with the teacher mean to you? ______ A. You can behave more actively in class. B. You will have more problems in learning. C. You can get more help from the teacher. D. You can ask any questions optionally in class. 4. What effect does a bad relationship have on most students? ______ A. They can learn by themselves as usual. B. They can't get help from the teacher. C. They feel great in the classmates' heart. D. They may feel uncomfortable in class. D People are seeking for opportunities that will assist them in reaching their goals. Marketing yourself can be a good choice, which can help you achieve your goals. Though when people talk about marketing, they usually think that this is about producing a sale, it does not necessarily have to be. If you are an employee then you want your boss to take your ideas, and if you are on a job hunting then you want to find a good position. So in reality, marketing really leads to sale. So marketing yourself means you are simply "selling" yourself! The common problem in marketing yourself is that most people think that it is unpleasant to market themselves. They think that marketing concerns only to a business. Of course, this is absolutely not true. People who want to attain the success they desire must promote themselves. Marketing yourself is a useful tool. The better you market yourself, the more opportunities you will have. Marketing yourself does not really mean telling every person how beautiful and wonderful you are. It means letting your prospective employer know that you exist or you can do something better. There are actually several different ways of marketing yourself. But there are only two primary ways that you carry out. The first is to find ways to reach out to others and the second is to construct ways in order for the people to find you and make connection with you. To reach out and touch the lives of others, you have to be a good person and a good employee. In that way your good reputation will follow naturally. Have a brief and concise message that you can share with others. When you market yourself, you tell people who you are and what you can do for others. Plan well and practice your message. In constructing ways for the people to notice and make connection with you, you must be open to them. Communication is a great opportunity to make an impact especially when you market yourself. You also communicate by what you are wearing. Know the appropriate dress code and have plenty of time to decide what you will wear. Just remember to make a great first impression! 1. What is the main idea of the passage? ______ A. Marketing yourself is a business. B. The subject of marketing yourself. C. The ways of marketing yourself. D. The problems of marketing yourself. 2. According to the passage, as to marketing themselves, most people tend to feel ______ . A. confident B. cheerful C. terrible D. appropriate 3. In order to market yourself well, you can do these things EXCEPT ______ . A. be open to others B. praise yourself C. wear appropriately D. have a brief and clear message 4. From the passage, we can infer that people good at marketing themselves must be ______ . A. communicative B. humorous C. hardworking D. beautiful 二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共50.0分) A student's life is never easy.
