It was dark and pouring with rain but with the headlights shining on the road,we saw something ahead of us. Johnny pulled to a stop and I jumped out,ran to the grass edge and grabbed a small, wet, and frightened creature. I wrapped it safely in my woollen hat and insisted that my husband turn back and head for home. We thought it was a baby rabbit because it had long ears and was grayish-brown in color. Once home,we filled a box with torn-up newspaper and a warm towel. We named our new animal Bobsy as we had no idea of its sex. Sadly though,on the third day with us,it caught its back foot in a door and we quickly realized it was broken. We rushed to the vet(兽医),who said,“It's only a rabbit,I'll put it to sleep.”Our response was a very determined,“No way !”We found anther vet and told that she was a baby hare. We were told we should continue to keep her in her box for a week and her foot would heal. After her recovery, Bobsy learnt to use the kitty litter tray. She would comb her long ears with her front paws. The local paper heard about this and came to our house to take her photo and write a story about her. We had her for seven wonderful years before we moved to New Zealand and we will never forget her. 4. Why did Johnny stop his car suddenly? A. He noticed something in front of him. B. What is the passage mainly intended to do? A. To remember unusual experiences with a small rabbit. B. To tell the importance of protecting small animals. C. To persuade people to give generously and receive thankfully. D. To make the rabbit widely known to local people by paper. C I didn’t know I was unable to see the difference between some colors until I started school. I had been excited to start school and I loved everything except coloring. I hated picking out crayons. I never asked for a coloring book at the bookstore. My parents didn’t question it. They just assumed it was not the thing I enjoyed and often joked about the fact that I was very smart but failed in my coloring test in preschool. That was true. One day I came home full of news about my new friend, Devon, who was tall, funny and green. After hearing what I said, my mom laughed it off at the time, assuming Devon must have been wearing a green shirt. A few days later I attended my first flag football practice. My mom sat on the sideline watching as I learned for the first time the rules of football. I played with all my heart. At the end of the practice my new coach came up to my mom and me and told me what a good job I had done. When my dad called from work later that day to hear about my first football experience, I told him how the green coach had praised me. My mom began to question my problem with color after hearing my words. The following day my mom accompanied me into the classroom to meet my "Martian" friend. When I pointed him out, my mom began to chuckle. She told me that he was brown, not green. Realizing my mistake, I smiled as well. Within a few days I was sitting in a doctor's office taking a color blindness exam and sure enough I tested positive. I was officially brown-green color blind. Since then I have learned how to deal with color blindness by reading the names on the crayons or colored pencils. Most importantly, I have learned that the color doesn’t matter as long as I wake up each day and experience the wonders of brown grass and green tree trunks. 8. What can we know about the author? A. He couldn't tell some colors apart. B. He was very naughty at school. C. He liked drawing very much. D. He often went to the bookstore . 9. What does the author want to tell us in Paragraph 3? A. His coach was green. B. His illness was serious. C. His mom was aware of his problem. D. He had no concept of green and brown. 10. Which of the following can best explain the underlined word “chuckle” in Paragraph 4? A. Breathe deeply. B. Laugh quietly. C. Cry sadly. D. Sigh heavily. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. Healing from Within B. Gratitude Regained C. My Wonderful School Life D. The Color of Gratitude D Every year, thousands of teenagers participate in programs at their local art museums. But do any of them remember their time at museum events later in life? A new report suggests that the answer is yes – and finds that alumni (毕业生) of arts-based museum programs credit them with changing the course of their lives, even years after the fact. The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles recently asked researchers to conduct a study to find out how effective their long-standing teen art programs really are. They involved over 300 former participants of four programs for teens that have been in existence since the 1990s. Alumni, whose current ages range from 18 to 36, were invited to find out how they viewed their participation years after the fact. Among the alumni surveyed, 75 percent of alumni rated the teen program experience as the most favorable impact on their own lives, beating family, school and their neighborhoods. Nearly 55 percent thought that it was one of the most important experiences they’d ever had, regardless of age. And two-thirds said that they were often in situations where their experience in museums affected their actions or thoughts. It turns out that participating in art programs also helps keep teens enthusiastic about arts even after they reach adulthood: 96 percent of participants had visited an art museum within the last two years, and 68 percent had visited an art museum five or more times within the last two years. Thirty-two percent of program alumni work in the arts as adults. Though the study is the first of its kind to explore the impact of teen-specific art programs in museums, it reflects other research on the important benefits of engaging with the arts. A decade of surveys by the National Endowment for the Arts found that childhood experience with the arts is significantly associated with their income and educational attainment as adults. Other studies have linked arts education to everything from lower drop-out rates to improvement in critical thinking skills. 12. What does the underlined phrase “the fact” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A. Changing the course of children’s life. B. Participating in childhood art programs. C. Organizing arts-based museum programs. D. Remembering the time at museum events. 13. What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell? A. The result of the study. B. The process of the study. C. The approach to the study. D. The object and content of the study. 14. What can be inferred of the study mentioned in the text? A. Passion for arts may remain long in kids’ whole life. B. No other studies exist concerning the benefits of arts. C. Age matters in how people view their art experiences. D. Most children taking part in art programs will work in arts. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. How is Art Connected to Our Life? B. Can Art Education Affect Our Income? C. What Should Art Museums do for Kids? D. Should Children Walk into Art Museums? 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项(有两个选项为多余选项)。 Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from ourselves or someone else. The positive and negative effects are just as lasting. 16 We’re usually too embarrassed to admit it, though. In fact, we really shouldn’t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit. This “self-talk” helps us motivate ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. 17 Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably respond in a similar manner. 18 Words possess power because of their lasting effect. Many of us regret something we once said. We remember unkind words said to us as well. Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: 19 If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid. Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem and motivate others to do their best. 20 Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours. A. Is it loving? B. How should I say it? C. We all talk to ourselves sometimes. D. Negative words destroy all those things. E. Generally people like positive and pleasant words. F. However, critical language may cause anger and defense. G. So we should only speak encouraging words to ourselves. Z As I stood at the base of the mountain range beside a remote African village, the male villagers all repeated the same question: Are you certain you want to climb the mountain?
