At school I really struggled with physics and chemistry and was much happier in English Language or History classes. My mind is not structured enough to understand how science works, I’m a bit of a daydreamer and prefer using my imagination rather than learning facts, figures and formulae(公式). Of course I knew who Marie Curie was, her great achievements, her contribution to science, to medical advances and influence on the world, but other than that, I really had very little idea about her life.‎ Shelley Emling has based this book on Marie Curie’s relationship with her two daughters, Irene and Eve. The book begins after the early death of Pierre Curie, when Marie is left to carry on the work that they started as a couple and to bring up her two small daughters alone. Emling has concentrated her book on the communication between Marie and her daughters. She was not an overly-protective mother, nor did she hesitate to spend time away from her daughters, yet this did not weaken their relationship. Marie was a caring and loving mother, who encouraged her daughters to become individuals, to achieve what they wanted to.‎ Marie Curie and her husband made the decision not to profit from their discoveries. It was because of this that Marie had to depend on donations to carry out her work, and that she had to carry out tours of the States.‎ I was very impressed by Emling’s writing style --- she has told the story of three extraordinary women who were way ahead of their time in an interesting and very readable manner.‎ ‎21. What is the writer good at?‎ A. Physics and chemistry. B. Facts, figures and formulae.‎ C. English and History. D. Daydreaming.‎ ‎22. What is Marie Curie like in the eyes of Irene and Eve?‎ A. She makes a pet of them like babies.‎ B. She avoids staying away from them.‎ C. She encourages them to build their own characters.‎ D. She wants to be involved in every area of their life.‎ ‎23. Why did Marie Curie tour the States?‎ A. Because she meant to make herself a famous person.‎ B. Because she wished to introduce the medical advances to people in the U. S. A.‎ C. Because she needed money to bring up her two small daughters by herself.‎ D. Because she decided to continue her work without money made from discoveries.‎ ‎24. The book written by Shelley Emling focuses on ________.‎ A. the connection between Marie Curie and her daughters B. the contributions Marie Curie made to the world C. the research work of Marie Curie and her husband D. the decision made by Marie Curie and her husband B Perhaps you think you could easily add to your happiness with more money. Strange as it may seem, if you're unsatisfied, the issue is not a lack of means to meet your desires but a lack of desires — not that you cannot satisfy your tastes but that you don't have enough tastes.‎ ‎ Real riches consist of well-developed and hearty capacities (能力) to enjoy life. Most people are already swamped(淹没) with things. They eat, wear, go and talk too much. They live in too big a house with too many rooms, yet their house of life is a hut.‎ ‎ Your house of life ought to be a mansion (豪宅) , a royal palace. Every new taste, every additional interest, every fresh enthusiasm adds a room. Here are several rooms your house of life should have.‎ Art should be a desire for you to develop simply because the world is full of beautiful things. If you only understood how to enjoy them and feed your spirit on them, they would make you as happy as to find plenty of ham and eggs when you're hungry.‎ ‎ Literature, classic literature, is a beautiful, richly furnished room where you might find many an hour of rest and refreshment. To gain that love would go toward making you a rich person, for a rich person is not someone who has a library but who likes a library.‎ ‎ Music like Mozart's and Bach's shouldn't be absent. Real riches are of the spirit. And when you've brought that spirit up to where classical music feeds it and makes you a little drunk, you have ‎ increased your thrills and bettered them. And life is a matter of thrills.‎ ‎ Sports, without which you remain poor, mean a lot in life. No matter who you are, you would be more human, and your house of life would be better supported against the bad days, if you could, and did, play a bit.‎ ‎ Whatever rooms you might add to your house of life, the secret of enjoying life is to keep adding.‎ ‎25. The author intends to tell us that____________.‎ ‎ A. true happiness lies in achieving wealth by fair means ‎ B. big houses are people's most valued possessions ‎ C. big houses can in a sense bring richness of life ‎ D. true happiness comes from spiritual riches ‎26. The underlined sentence in the second paragraph probably implies that__________.‎ ‎ A. however materially rich, they never seem to be satisfied ‎ B. however materially rich, they remain spiritually poor ‎ C. though their house is big, they prefer a simple life ‎ D. though their house is big, it seems to be a cage ‎27. It can be learned from the passage that __________.‎ ‎ A. more money brings more happiness ‎ B. art is needed to make your house beautiful ‎ C. literature can enrich your spiritual life ‎ D. sports contribute mainly to your physical fitness ‎28. What would be the best title for the passage?‎ ‎ A. House of Life B. Secret of Wealth ‎ C. Rest and Refreshment D. The station named Nemo’s Garden consists of five biospheres(生物圈) fixed to the bottom of the sea off the coast of Savona, Italy. They’re being used to grow strawberries, beans, garlic, and lettuce.‎ ‎“The main target of this project is to create other sources of plant production in areas where environmental conditions make it difficult to grow crops through traditional farming, including lack of fresh water, fertile soil, and extreme temperature changes,” said project spokesperson Luca Gamberini.‎ The five biospheres, currently floating between depths of 18 and 36 feet, are constantly watched by Ocean Reef Group —— a diving equipment company——from a control center on dry land. According to various news reports, the plants are watered by drips of water on the inner walls of the biospheres. With a constant temperature of 79 degrees day and night, and humidity(湿度) at around 83 percent, the conditions are ideal for plants to grow well. The high amount of carbon dioxide also encourages growth.‎ Ocean Reef president Sergio Gamberini said he came up with the idea of growing plants underwater during a summer vacation in Italy. In his own words, he wanted to do something that’s different and to show the beauty of the ocean. After two years of failed attempts, they finally were able to get these five biospheres working. Their success may lay the foundation for a new form of crop production that can be done without harming the environment.‎ In fact, the biosphere seems to be attracting wildlife. Octopuses(章鱼) and endangered seahorses are taking shelter under the structure, while crabs(螃蟹) are climbing up the anchors and into the greenhouses. None of the creatures have damaged the plants so far. “It’s so kind of science-fiction to see these two different forms of life interact,” Gamberini said.‎ ‎32. Why was the underwater farm created?‎ A. To help explore the sea.    B. To protect sea creatures.‎ C. To improve the sea environment    D. To find a new way of growing crops.‎ ‎33. Sergio Gamberini got the idea of growing plants underwater _______.‎ A. by chance    B. from science fiction C. after reading a news report    D. after two years of failed attempts ‎34. The last paragraph is written mainly to tell us that _____.‎ A. the plants in the biosphere is protected ‎ B. the biosphere is environmentally friendly C. sea creatures may do harm to the biosphere ‎ D. sea creatures like the plants in the biosphere ‎35. What is the text mainly about?‎ A. The undersea exploration. B. Growing plants without soil.‎ C. A biosphere that attracts wildlife. D. The world’s first underwater farm.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) ‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 (将选项涂在答题卡相应的71-75题) ‎ There are so many things we do in our daily lives that have become a "habit". 36 How you answer the phone is a habit. The way you sit in the car when you drive is a habit. Have you ever tried to change the way you do something, after you have done it in a certain way for so long? It's not very easy to do. The minute your mind drifts to something else, you go right back to the old way of doing things. 37 It's a way of doing things that has become routine or commonplace. To change an existing habit or form a new one can be a boring task.‎ Let's pick something fairly easy to start with, like spending 15 minutes in the morning reading a book. If you want to turn something into a habit that you do every day, you have to WANT to do it. 38 Make a firm decision to do this on a daily basis.‎ Imprint it in your mind. Write several notes to yourself and put them in places where you will see them. By the alarm clock, on the bathroom mirror, on the refrigerator door, in your briefcase, and under your car keys are good places to start. ‎ After the newness wears off, then you will have to remind yourself, "Hey, I forgot to..." Keep using the notes if you have to. 39 Some people say it will take over a month to solidify it and make it something you will do without having to think about it. I tend to agree with the last statement. Two to three weeks will help you to remember, but thirty days or more will make it a part of your everyday routine. 40 ‎ A. What is a "habit" anyway?‎ B. Forming a bad habit is easy.‎ C. Brushing your teeth is a habit.‎ D. Is doing things in an old way good?‎ E. If you don't, you will find a way to do everything but that.‎ F. It takes 16 to 21 times of repeating a task to make it a habit.‎ G. That's something you won't necessarily have to think about before you do it—habit.‎ 第三部分英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ This morning, I set off very late in my car to office, I was in a ___41___ to reach my office as my clients were waiting for me there.
