A 2018 statistic shows that women nowadays hold just 5.8 percent of CEOs positions at S&P 500 companies, according to Catalyst.‎ While it’s not a huge shock that women are somewhat underrepresented in leadership positions, what is surprising though, is the fact that females may actually be better suited to lead in almost every area, at least according to new findings from the BI Norwegian Business School.‎ In their research,Professor Yvind L. Martinsen and Professor Lars Glas surveyed 2,900 managers with a special focus on personality types. The results were clear: Women scored higher than men in four of the five major leadership-centric categories.‎ While some people believe that men inherently make better leaders — probably because they picture a leader with a commanding voice, which is more typical of men than women — this piece of research suggests that women are better at methodical management and goal-setting, openness, sociability and supportiveness, as well as ability to communicate clearly.‎ There was one area in which men scored higher than women, though, and that was on emotional stability and ability to face job-related pressure and stress. The results suggest that women are more sensitive to the effects of high-pressure or highly emotional situations.‎ Obviously,it’s important to consider individual differences. Anyone, regardless of gender, may be an inspiring leader and a competent boss. But next time you’re hiring for a management position, you just might want to give the resumes(简历) from female candidates a harder look.‎ ‎24. What makes us shocked much at leadership positions?‎ A. Women might behave better in every field.‎ B. Men take almost all high positions.‎ C. There is a huge gap between genders.‎ D. Women are worse than men.‎ ‎25. Male bosses.‎ C University can be the most sociable time of your life. For most students, social media is the glue that holds packed social diaries together.Facebook will let you know if a game is cancelled,Twitter can promote your DJ set in 140 characters, and your Instagram account will remind you when there are new photos. ‎ These tools have made the world increasingly connected, and most students wouldn't consider shunning them at such a sociable stage of their lives. But social media is by no means a requirement at university, and many do without. ‎ ‎"I'm a private person and don't feel the need to share everything with everybody I know,"says Caty Forster,20,a student at the University of Manchester, who has never used Facebook or Twitter.Despite social media's benefits,Forster is largely indifferent.Bethany Elgood, 25, stopped using Facebook after she discovered she had developed a bit of an anxiety towards the social media platforms that contain lots of personal details." ‎ I quit Facebook when I was 13.I left because, not only was I bored of passively involved in its Newsfeed,I was also experiencing anxiety. To me,Facebook meant clicking and nosing around people's lives. ‎ People would ask,"How do you keep in touch with people?" and "Won't you miss out anything important?"I was in agreement with Forster, who says,"I never feel like I'm missing out too much.I don't feel like I'd have anything valuable to share or gain from it." Adrienne Jolly,a careers advisor at UEA,says,"It's hard to prove reliable statistics on social media. But it's generally accepted that social media networks are pretty influential in this process-for better or worse." ‎ You might decide quitting social media isn't practical in the long run. However,if its ugly side is bringing you down, why not consider taking leave?By doing so,I gained confidence and a strong ‎ connection with reality. 28.The author listed three kinds of social media to prove they ______ . A. are important for him and others like Caty B. are frequently used by many university students C. have the power to make students learn more D. should be used by all of the students in universities 29.The underlined word "shunning" in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by" ______ " A. adding    B. choosing      C. using         D. avoiding  30.Why doesn't Bethany use social media? ______ A. She hates to share everything with others. B. She buries herself in the busy studies every day. C. She hopes her personal information is safe. D. She doesn't care what has happened to her friends. 31.What is the attitude of Adrienne Jolly to using social media online? ______ A. She is completely against them. ‎ B. She is objective. C. She is completely for them. ‎ D. She herself refuses to use them. ‎ D To understand how much we rely on ecosystem services, imagine a world where humans are the only species – perhaps in a spaceship far from Earth.‎ There are no plants releasing oxygen, so you have to engineer a way to make it yourself. So straight away you need a chemical processing plant on board your ship. That same plant will have to make water too.‎ There is also nothing to eat, so you must artificially make food. You could synthesise(人工合成) chemicals like sugars and fats, but making it delicious would be extremely hard. As of 2015, we can't even make an artificial burger that everyone finds convincing.‎ Let's not even get started on the microorganisms(微生物) living in your gut, many of which are beneficial. The point is that, while we could in theory do all these things artificially, it is far easier to let the existing wildlife do them for us.‎ The scale of these ecosystem services, when you add them up, turns out to be extraordinarily large.‎ ‎ In 1997, ecologist Robert Costanza and his colleagues estimated that the ecosystem provides services worth around $33 trillion a year. For comparison, they noted that the entire global economy at the time produced around $18 trillion a year.‎ Five years later, the team took the argument a step further by asking how much we would gain by conserving biodiversity. They concluded that the benefits would outweigh the costs by a factor of 100. In other words, conserving nature is a unbelievably good investment.‎ By contrast, letting species decline and go extinct looks like a bad move. A 2010 study concluded that unchecked species loss would wipe 18% off global economic output by 2050.‎ You may perhaps be feeling that all this talk of economics and growth is strange. It's all rather cold and heartless, without any of the love for the natural world that we were talking about earlier. Well, many environmentalists feel the same way.‎ ‎32.What does the author want to tell us by mentioning an artificial burger in Paragraph 3?‎ A.Artificial things are similar to natural ones.‎ B.Artificial things can hardly be the same as natural ones.‎ C.We have a long way to go to develop artificial things.‎ D.We can hardly distinguish artificial things from natural ones.‎ ‎33.What’s the main problem with doing many things artificially?‎ A.Its high costs. ‎ B.Its negative effects. ‎ C.Its being difficult. ‎ D.Its being impossible.‎ ‎34. What factor does the author stress to support his/her statement?‎ A.Political systems. ‎ B. Cultural traditions.‎ C.Economic benefits. ‎ D. Environmental protection.‎ ‎35.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the passage?‎ ‎ A.To prove the value of biodiversity.‎ B.To stress the importance of the environment.‎ C.To tell us how the ecosystem works.‎ D.To teach us how to protect the ecosystem.‎ 第二节 七选五 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Creating a good study environment takes a little planning. It is well worth the time as the end result will be much productive study time. Many people fail to do this and wonder why they cannot concentrate. After a couple of times of studying the right way, most people will be surprised at how much they can actually enjoy studying.    (36) .     Know that concentration is the key.Reduce every possible distraction.Turn off the television and go in an area where you will not be interrupted by people.   (37) .If you are studying on your computer, donˈt get distracted by emails and social networking sites.          (38) . If it is too dim, your eyes will be strained and leave you tired and wanting to close your eyes. As a result, students cannot receive quality English ‎ teaching. ‎
