Each ‎ of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签 ) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.‎ War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.‎ The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.‎ Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn't notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me. “Thanks.”‎ Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn't always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in cleaning up and holding on.‎ ‎21.What made Kate so angry one evening?‎ A.She couldn't find her books.‎ B.She heard the author shouting loud.‎ C.She got the news that her grandma was ill.‎ D.She saw the author's shoes beneath her bed.‎ ‎22.The author tidied up the room most probably because ______________.‎ A.she was scared by Kate's anger B.she hated herself for being so messy C.she wanted to show her care D.she was asked by Kate to do so ‎23.How is Paragraph 1 mainly developed?‎ A.By analyzing causes. B.By showing differences.‎ C.By describing a process. D.By following time order.‎ ‎24.What might be the best title for the story?‎ ‎ A.My Friend Kate B.Hard Work Pays Off ‎ C.How to Be Organized D.Learning to Be Roommates ‎ B Languages have been coming and going for thousands of years, but in recent times there has been less coming and a lot more going. When the world was still ‎ populated by hunter-gatherers, small, tightly knit (联系)groups developed their own patterns of speech independent of each other. Some language experts believe that 10,000 years ago, when the world had just five to ten million people, they spoke perhaps 12,000 languages between them.‎ Soon afterwards, many of those people started settling down to become farmers, and their languages too became more settled and fewer in number. In recent centuries, trade, industrialization, the development of the nation-state and the spread of universal compulsory education, especially globalisation and better communications in the past few decades, all have caused many languages to disappear, and dominant languages such as English,Spanish and Chinese are increasingly taking over.‎ At present, the world has about 6,800 languages. The distribution of these languages is hugely uneven. The general rule is that mild zones have relatively few languages, often spoken by many people while hot, wet zones have lots, often spoken by small numbers. Europe has only around 200 languages; the Americas about 1,000; Africa 2,400; and Asia and the Pacific perhaps 3,200, of which Papua New Guinea alone accounts for well over 800. The median number (中位数)of speakers is a mere 6,000, which means that half the world's languages are spoken by fewer people than that.‎ Already well over 400 of the total of 6,800 languages are close to extinction(消亡), with only a few elderly speakers left. Pick, at random, Busuu in Cameroon (eight remaining speakers),Chiapaneco in Mexico(150), Lipan Apache in the United States(two or three)or Wadjigu in Australia (one, with a question-mark): none of these seems to have much chance of survival.‎ ‎25.What can we infer about languages in hunter-gatherer times? ‎ A. They developed very fast. B. They were large in number.‎ C. They had similar patterns. D. They were closely connected.‎ ‎26.Which of the following best explains “dominant ” underlined in paragraph 2?‎ A. Complex. B.Advanced. C. Powerful. D. Modern.‎ ‎27.How many languages are spoken by less than 6, 000 people at present?‎ A. About 6,800. B.About 3,400. C. About 2,400. D. About 1,200.‎ ‎28.What is the min idea of the text? ‎ A.New languages will be created.‎ B.People's lifestyles are reflected in languages.‎ C.Human development results in fewer languages.‎ D.Geography determines language evolution.‎ ‎ C One of the most important things in the world is friendship. In order to have ‎ friends, you have to be a friend. But how can you be a good friend at school?‎ Listen-Listen when they are talking. Don't say anything unless they ask you a question. Sometimes it's not necessary for you to have anything to say; they just need someone to talk to about their feelings.‎ Help them-If your friend is ever in need of something, be there to help them. You should try to put them first, but make sure you don't do everything they want you to do. Try to take an extra(额外的)pencil or pen with you to classes in case (以防) they forget one. Have a little extra money in your pocket in case they forget something they need.‎ Be there for them-Try to make something for your friend to help make them feel better in hard times. Making cards and encouraging them are among the nicest things you can do for a friend. Marilyn Monroe, a famous U.S. actor, once said, “I often make mistakes. Sometimes I am out of control. But if you can't stay with me at my worst, you are sure not to deserve(值得)to be with me at my best.” Always remember this! If you don't want to stay with your friends when they're in hard times, then you don't deserve to be with them when they're having a good time!‎ ‎________ -Try to make plans with your friends. Go shopping, go for ice creams, have a party, go to a movie and so on. Take time to know each other even better by doing something you both enjoy. But planning things together, you both can have a good time. And you'll remember these things when you're both old!‎ ‎29.While your friend is talking to you about his or her feelings, you should ___________.‎ ‎ A. give him or her some advice B. calm him or her down ‎ C. just listen unless asked D. share your feelings as well ‎30.What can we learn from Marilyn Monroe's words?‎ ‎ A. A friend in need is a friend indeed. B. A friend is easier lost than found.‎ ‎ C. Life without a friend is death. D. A man is known by his friends.‎ ‎31.Which of the following can be put in the blank of the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A. Make plans. B. Enjoy yourself.‎ ‎ C. Understand your friends. D. Play with your friends.‎ D I ran into quite a few language problems while vacationing with my family last summer. The most embarrassing was when my Mom apologized to the people we were staying with because her “pants were dirty”. They looked at her in amazement (吃惊), not knowing how to react. You see, Mom had fallen over and gotten mud on her jeans. But in Britain, “pants” means underpants or knickers, not trousers as it does back home.‎ ‎ Katie-From America I went to stay with a friend on the west coast last summer. Her flat was on the first floor of a high-rise building so I got the lift up. Then I wandered round for ages looking for her flat but couldn't find it. Fed up and tired, I finally had to go out to find a phone box. She explained that her flat was on the first floor, which for me meant the ground floor.‎ ‎ David-From Britain When I asked for the “restroom” in a big department store, people kept directing me to a room with seats where I could sit and “rest”. It took me years to get through to someone that I only wanted the toilet!‎ ‎ Tom-From America Last summer we went on a two-week family touring holiday, so Dad hired a car over the Internet. This was an old vehicle (汽车) and there turned out to be lots of things wrong with it. When he phoned the hire company and tried to explain that the lock on the boot was broken, they thought he was talking about footwear! He had no idea their word for “boot” was “trunk”. In the end we went to a garage and just solved the problem.‎ ‎ Mary-From Britain ‎32.Hearing Katie's mother's words, Katie's friends were in surprise because _______.‎ A.Katie's mother got mud on her jeans B.Katie's mother's underpants were dirty C.they didn't know English D.they mistook “pants” in American for underpants ‎33.David went out to find a phone box to _________.‎ A.phone the police for help B. phone his friend for help C.tell his friend he couldn't go to visit her D. apologize for his being late ‎ ‎34.When Tom asked for the “restroom”, the people around him thought _____.‎ A.he wanted to go to a department store B. he wanted the toilet ‎ C.he wanted a chair D. he wanted to have a rest ‎35.The underlined word “garage” is probably ___________.‎ A.a place to repair cars B.a car ‎ C.a gas station D.a parking place 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(E涂AB, F涂AC, G涂AD)‎ Ways to build strong friendships Be loyal to a friend.‎ Part of being a friend is being prepared to devote your time and energy to helping out your friends.
