And in the following cities, these gestures are second nature, with locals who are quick to welcome visitors and neighbors alike.‎ Dublin, Ireland Dublin is home to some of the warmest people on the planet. One of Europe’s smaller capital cities, Dublin also benefits from a low crime rate and a widespread feeling of security(安全), so residents(居民) are more likely to lend a stranger a helping hand. Locals speak in soft tones in public. Talking too loudly in public gives the impression of being careless at best, and rude at worst.‎ Auckland, New Zealand New Zealand’s biggest city is also the country’s friendliest, perhaps because many of its residents are immigrants(移民). People have come from all over the world and understand what it is like to have moved to a different place, so it is welcoming for tourists and new residents. Also, the city is surrounded by amazing scenery and things. That’s got to make people a bit happier, and therefore friendlier.‎ Charleston, United States This city has a quiet outdoor environment that helps keep residents in good spirits. Even when you go to the department of motor vehicles, you get a smile. Like many southern US cities, Charleston moves at a slower pace. People take time to sit outside, talk to neighbors and walk to dinner.‎ Victoria, Canada A popular tourist destination with a busy cruise port, the capital of British Columbia is known for first-rate customer service and kind hosts. Even the post men and women are super friendly and often say “good morning”. It’s got a small town and big city feel all at the same time.‎ ‎21. What can be inferred from the underlined part?‎ A. The behavior of locals does not represent their true nature.‎ B. It is likely that locals would be unwilling to welcome visitors.‎ C. Locals perform the acts naturally and without thinking.‎ D. Locals do not feel at home in these busy cities.‎ ‎22. In which city are locals more likely to understand tourists and new residents?‎ A. Dublin. B. Auckland. C. Charleston. D. Victoria.‎ ‎23. What is the main purpose of the passage?‎ A. To introduce the tourism in some cities.‎ B. To show the friendliness of different cities.‎ C. To make a comparison between some cities.‎ D. To analyze the nature of people from different countries.‎ B He slept in my arms last night, with his little head on my shoulder. I stayed awake listening to his breathing. He smiled in his sleep, and I wondered what could be funny to a one-year-old baby. I could sense the safety he felt.‎ However, my home life is completely different from the scene that greets me each morning at work. As a lawyer at Eastlake Juvenile Court (少年法庭), I always see kids that society has labeled the worst of the worst, the “thief”, the “robber”, the list goes on. But they are still children. As I sit across from them, I have a chance to talk to them about their lives, their homes, and their dreams. I sit through tears, I sit through anger, but mostly I sit through hurt. I see their parents, most of whom sit in the hallways day after day wanting to take their kids home. I also see mothers and fathers that come to the court ready to walk away from their children forever. Each day I see hope destroyed.‎ I have come to realize that these children are our future, even if we don’t want to admit it. They also want to sleep on a mother’s shoulder at night, they also had dreams and smiled in their sleep when they were babies. But then something terrible happened, which robbed them of that youth, that hope, and that joy. I hope one day we can find how to put back the destroyed childhoods and ruined lives. ‎ Every day when I go home, I hold my children tightly in my arms and say “I love you” over and over again. And as I am filled with hope, I cannot forget those children I leave behind. I live in two worlds, one of promise, one of tragedy. No matter what they ‎ are accused (指控) of, what crimes (罪行) they have carried out and what society thinks of them, they are children, they are our children and our future. ‎ ‎24. The Swiss company, Rinspeed, has tried to show the future with its concept car(概念车)Xchange.‎ ‎"I wanted to put the passenger at the centre of what is possible, not the autonomous driving technology," says Rinspeed's founder Frank Rinderknecht. "Travelling in a driverless car will no longer require me to stare at the road, but will let me spend my time in a more meaningful way. You can work, sleep, read, or do whatever activities you might do on a train or a plane.‎ ‎"But driverless cars will not mean the death of driving", Mr Rinderknecht says. There will be times when a driver will want to drive. "Most driving is boring because you are just driving miles and miles. If I go on the motorway from London to Birmingham, it's not very joyful. However, if I go over a mountain road, I want to drive myself and I don't want the machine to do it."‎ The safety matter will be a big challenge for companies of autonomous cars.‎ Mr Rinderknecht is already thinking beyond this concept car. "There will come a time when we will be travelling in a container, with no airbags or seatbelts because the chances of an accident will be so small." But the real challenge may not be technological, but emotional. Convincing people to travel in a driverless car will be difficult.‎ ‎"We know that nine out of ten plane crashes are due to pilot's error. But if you go to Heathrow Airport and you are required to make a choice between planes with two pilots or with no pilot, I know which one you will trust. It may require a generation before people accept it, but it will happen", he says.‎ ‎32. When developing its Xchange concept car, Rinspeed has focused on______‎ A. ensuring the cars' safety B. advancing car-making skills C. improving passengers' riding experience D. developing autonomous driving technology ‎33. According to Mr Rinderknecht, what will be the real challenge for driverless cars?‎ A. Ensuring their complete safety. B. Persuading people to accept ‎ them.‎ C. Making them affordable to the public. According to Mr Rinderknecht, in the future________‎ A. driverless cars will be safer B. driverless cars will help save more gas C. driverless cars will be environmentally friendly D. driving driverless cars will become interesting ‎35. Books are very important to learning.‎ ‎ 39 However,it requires reading and reading requires practice. I believe we should relax while learning and digesting facts and information, and this can only be done with the simple book. 40 Then expand on and use the technology available, like e-books to make things convenient.
