But as I began to grow older, this changed.‎ All this happened on the Bike Safety Day. It is supposed to be a fun day at school when all of us kids bring our bikes to school and the school provides us with the opportunity to ride outside and learn proper bike safety. Sounds like fun, right? No. in fact, it caused me to panic.‎ What was I going to say when my friends asked me about my training wheels?‎ With the pressure of everyone seeing my training wheels, I determined to let them go. This was the first big change I'd ever made on my own.‎ I went to my parents and told them all about my dilemma. They were more than happy to help. We went outside and got my bike. Instead of running away and hiding behind, I stood in front of my bike and took great pride in my decision as my dad removed the training wheels.‎ I got on and steadied myself. My heart raced but my face and hands were calm. My dad started to push before my feet even moved and suddenly I was off. The fear faded away and a relaxed mind came into its place. It was crazy to think how quickly I learned something that look so long for me to even try!‎ My confidence soared (猛涨).This was going to be the start of a brand new world for me. She was sent to isolation (隔离室)last Thursday morning, until the tongue bar was taken out.‎ Her mother Miki, 48, claims she met with head teacher Warren Smith, who agreed that she could wear a clear retainer (保护架)in the piercing. The angry mom said, “1 could understand it if it was a piercing through her nose but even other students have their noses pierced.” Megan is so stressed about it and it has thrown her off her revision. She missed key lessons on Friday; it was so bad. She has been in floods of tears; it is completely affecting her and she could well fail her exams.‎ The Folkestone Academy Year 11 dress code booklet details exactly what students are not allowed to wear. It says, “All forms of jewellery including piercing retainers, facial piercings, tongue and other bodily piercings are not permitted.”‎ Megan returned to school on Monday with a clear bar in place, but online commenters blamed Miki for her parenting skills. Alison Often said, “Mrs McKnight, you are a poor mom for allowing a 15-year-old to have a tongue piercing, then complaining to the papers when the school follows the rules. Want your five minutes of fame.” Mandy Friend added, “Just another typical example of self righteous, ignorant people who don’t want to follow the rules by which the rest of us will abide. Who in their right mind allows their child to get a tongue piercing just before her GCSEs anyway?”‎ But many defended Miki, and thought the school’s rule “stupid”. Sophie Summers said, “1 understand rules are rules, but technically you can't see a tongue piercing unless she is sticking her tongue out constantly, which I doubt she is. And it hardly affects her ability to read and write. Maybe it is a rule, but it’s a stupid one.”‎ ‎28.Why was Megan sent to isolation last Thursday morning? A. Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels (商标). However, if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritious and safer product, you might want to save your money. A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren't necessarily more nutritious, and they're no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria, either.‎ The latest results, published in the Annuals of Internal Medicine, suggest that buyers may be wasting their money. "We did not find strong evidence that organic food is more nutritious or healthier," says Dr. Crystal Smith-Spangler from Stanford. "So consumers shouldn't assume that one type of food has a lower risk or is safer."‎ For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleagues conducted a review of two categories of research, including 17 studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products, and 223 studies that analyzed the nutritional content of the foods, including key vitamins, minerals and fats.‎ While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content, they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, such as chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small, and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.‎ Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesn't always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product. The U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that "whether you buy organic or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect on taste." Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.‎ 32. The new research questions whether organic food __________.‎ A. should replace traditional food B. has been overpriced by farmers C. is grown with less harmful chemicals D. is really more nutritious and healthier 33. Smith-Spangler and her colleagues found that __________.‎ A. organic food could reduce the risk of heart disease B. traditional food was grown with more natural methods C. both organic and traditional food they examined were safe D. there was not a presence of any forms of bacteria in organic food 33.
