But another contrary trend has educators and policy makers abuzz: a rush by schools in all parts of America to offer instructions in Chinese. ‎ Some schools are paying for Chinese classes on their own, but hundreds are getting some help. The Chinese government is sending teachers from China to schools all over the world—and paying part of their salaries. ‎ No one keeps an exact count, but rough calculations based on the government's survey suggest that perhaps 1,600 American public and private schools are teaching Chinese, up from 300 or so a decade ago. And the number is growing exponentially(成倍地). ‎ ‎"It's really changing the language education landscape of this country," said Nancy C.Rhodes, director at the center. Other indicators point to the same trend." The number of students taking the Advanced Placement test in Chinese, introduced in 2007, has grown so fast that it is likely to pass German this year as the third most-tested A.P.language, after Spanish and French", said Trevor Packer, vice president at the College Board.‎ ‎ "We've all been surprised that in such a short time Chinese would grow to surpass A.P.German," Mr. Packer said.‎ ‎ A decade ago, most of the schools with Chinese programs were on the East and West‎ ‎Coasts. But in recent years, many schools have started Chinese programs in heartland states, including Ohio and Illinois in the Midwest,Texas and Georgia in the South, and Colorado and Utah in the Rocky Mountain West. ‎ America‎ has had the study of a foreign language grow before, only to see the bubble burst. Many schools began teaching Japanese in the 1980s, after Japan emerged as an economic rival. But thousands have dropped the language, the survey found. Japanese is not the only language that has declined. Thousands of schools that offered French, German or Russian have stopped teaching those languages, too, the survey found.‎ 5. What's the meaning of the underlined word "abuzz" in the first paragraph?‎ A. Be noisy like the sound of a bee. ‎ B. Be lively for various activities.‎ C. Cause people to discuss something hotly. ‎ D. Motivate people to march bravely.‎ ‎6. What can we infer from what Mr.Packer said?‎ A. More and more people choose Chinese in A.P.test. ‎ B. A.P.test is the most difficult one in the world.‎ C. Chinese is more important than Spanish and French. ‎ D. Chinese is a necessary subject in most important tests.‎ ‎7. What can we know from the last two paragraphs?‎ A. Many schools started Chinese programs in the Midwest ten years ago.‎ B. Chinese programs have been started in more areas in America recently.‎ C. American schools have stopped teaching French, German and Russian.‎ D. People are gradually fond of learning Chinese and Japanese in recent years.‎ ‎8. What is the main idea of the passage?‎ A. Chinese is being learned as an official language in America.‎ B. Foreign Languages fade in American schools except Chinese.‎ C. Teaching Chinese in foreign countries has become a trend.‎ D. Foreign languages are no longer being taught in America.‎ C Usually, when your teacher asks a question, there is only one correct answer. But there is one question that has millions of correct answers. That question is “What’s your name?” Everyone gives a different answer, but everyone is correct. ‎ Have you ever wondered about people’s names? Where do they come from? What do they mean?‎ People’s first names, or given names, are chosen by their parents. Sometimes the name of a grandparent or other member of the family is used. Some parents choose the name of a well-known person. A boy could be named George Washington Smith; a girl could be named Helen Keller Jones. ‎ Some people give their children names that mean good things. Clara means “bright”; Beatrice means “one who gives happiness”; Donald means “world ruler”; Leonard means “as brave as a lion”. ‎ The earliest last names, or surnames, were taken from place names. A family with the name Brook or Brooks probably lived near a brook (小溪); someone who was called Longstreet probably lived on a long, paved road. The Greenwood family lived in or near a leafy forest.‎ Other early surnames came from people’s occupations. The most common occupational name is Smith, which means a person who makes things with iron or other metals. In the past, smiths were very important workers in every town and village. Some other occupational names are: Carter—a person who owned or drove a cart; Potter—a person who made pots and pans. ‎ The ancestors of the Baker family probably baked bread for their neighbors in their native village. The Carpenter’s great-great-great-grandfather probably built houses and furniture. ‎ Sometimes people were known for the color of their hair or skin, or their size, or their special abilities. When there were two men who were named John in the same village, the John with gray hair probably became John Gray. Or the John who was very tall could call himself John Tallman. John Fish was probably an excellent swimmer and John Lightfoot was probably a fast runner or a good dancer. ‎ Some family names were made by adding something to the father’s name. English-speaking people added –s or –son. The Johnsons are descendants of John; the Roberts family’s ancestor was Robert. Irish and Scottish people added Mac or Mc or O. Perhaps all of the MacDonnells and the O’Donnells are descendants of the same Donnell.‎ 9. Which of the following aspects of the surnames are not covered in the passage?‎ A. Places where people lived.‎ B. People’s characters.‎ C. Talents that people possessed.‎ D. People’s occupations.‎ ‎10. According to the passage, the ancestors of the Potter family most probably _______.‎ A. owned or drove a cart B. made things with metals C. made kitchen tools or containers D. built houses and furniture ‎11. Suppose an English couple whose ancestors lived near a leafy forest wanted their new-born son to become a world leader, the baby might be named ________.‎ A. Beatrice Smith B. Leonard Carter C. George Longstreet D. Donald Greenwood D Kelly Reeves was getting ready for a trip when her phone slipped into a sink full of water. Panic moment! She quickly picked up the wet phone and tried to turn it on, but nothing worked. Her first reaction? She got dressed, drove to the nearest store, and bought a new model at full price.‎ A new study finds that fear of losing your phone is a common illness. About 66 percent of those surveyed suffer from nomophobia or “no mobile phone phobia”. Interestingly, more women worry about losing their phone than men.‎ Fortunately, there’s a solution.‎ The first step is to figure out if you have nomophobia. Checking your phone too often is one thing, but the true sign of a problem is that you can’t conduct business or go about your routine when the fear becomes so severe.‎ Do you go to unusual lengths to make sure you have your phone? That’s another sign of a problem. If you find you check your phone plenty of times per hour, or a total of an hour per day, there may be a problem.‎ Some of the treatments are similar to those for treating anxiety attacks: Leaving the phone behind and not checking e-mail or text messages, and then learning to tolerate the after anxiety. Even if this leads to a high level of worry and stress, the solution is to push through the fear and learn to deal with not having your phone.‎ Of course, there are also technological alternatives. Luis Levy, a co-founder at Novy PR, says he uses an application called Cerberus that can automatically track the location of his phone. To find it, he can just go to a Web site and see the phone’s location.‎ He also insures his phone through a service called Asurion. The company’s description of its product reads like a prescription for anxiety: “60 million phones are lost, stolen or damaged each year. You’ll have complete peace of mind knowing that your phone is protected and you can quickly reconnect with family, friends and work, as soon as the very next day!”‎ 12. Why does the author mention Kelly’s experience in the first paragraph?‎ A. To inform us that mobile phones are useful.‎ B. To introduce the topic for discussion.‎ C. To tell us we should get phones ready for a trip.‎ D. To warn us that we should be careful with phones.‎ 12. Which of the following is a way to treat nomophobia?‎ A. Learning more about modern technology.‎ B. Avoiding using phone for some time.‎ C. Not using a mobile phone in one’s daily work.‎ D. Protecting one’s phone against any damage.‎ ‎14. Why can the service called Asurion help to treat nomophobia?‎ A. It will give you a new phone through insurance.‎ B. It lets you know other people also lose their phones.‎ C. It gives you a prescription to treat nomophobia.‎ D. It enables you to reconnect with your acquaintance.‎ ‎15. What is the passage mainly about?‎ A. New mobile phone technology.‎ B. Attitude toward mobile phone.‎ C. Solutions to nomophobia.‎ D. Disadvantages of mobile phones.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余项。‎ Simple ways to get happy We are not suggesting that you can reach a permanent state called “happiness” and remain there. But there are many ways to turn the path of anxiety, anger, and sadness into a state of happiness. Here are four ideas to get you started. 16 .‎ ‎● Laugh out loud Just expecting a happy, funny event can raise levels of pleasure-causing hormones (荷尔蒙) and lower production of stress hormones. Researchers at the University of California tested 16 men who all agreed they thought a certain videotape was funny. Half were told three days in advance they would watch it. 17 . I started to do that. ‎ Woman: How do you find restaurants?‎ Man: The best way is to ask the people there. I may talk to the people at the street market or take a walk and look for place for myself. Welcome to the program. In America, May and June are the traditional months for graduations. A listener in China, Wang Ming, who is about to get an engineering degree, wants to know how American college graduates find jobs. Right now, the answer is: not very easily. ‎ A latest study on the college job market showed that employers wanted to hire 22% fewer graduates this year than last. The study also showed that just 20% of those who looked for jobs before graduation have found one by now. This is compared to half of students who had looked for a job by this time two years ago. But one difference: fewer of this year's graduates have started to search for jobs. ‎ Engineering graduates were more likely to have started their job search already, and to have accepted a job. This is among the best-paid professions for people with just a college degree. On average, engineering majors expect to start at about $62,000 a year. ‎ 第四节 Job interviews can generally be divided into three types. The first is what I would call the traditional interview. This is usually just a series of standard questions about qualifications, work experience and expectations. So what you have here is basically a list of quite direct questions, like what duties did you have in your previous job. This is still the model for a lot of interviews today. In my view, it's not the best to select staff. ‎ Then there is the case interview. Here the interviewer presents a problem and a series of questions to find out how the candidate would approach the problem. It might go something like this: A company wants to hire more graduates without spending more than its current budget. What would you advise them to do? This can be particularly challenging, for you need to analyze the problem and solve it. The third type is known as the behavioral interview. The questions are usually designed to find out about how the candidates handle tricky situations in the past. A typical question might be: "Can you give me an example of a situation where you have to follow orders that you didn't agree with?" This opens up a lot of information and the interviewer gets to see more of the candidate. ‎ 高二英语听力答案 第一节 ‎1-5. ACACB 6-10. BBABA 11-15. BACAA 16-20. BCBCC 第二节 ‎21-25.
