I always believed that my parents had a good marriage, but gradually the strain (紧张) on my mom and dad’s relationship was quite evident. However, I was not prepared for the day when Dad had decided to leave. All that I could think of was that I was going to become a product of a divorced family. I kept telling myself that it wasn’t going to happen. The night before he left, I stayed up in my room for a long time, I prayed (祈祷) and I cried and I wrote a long letter to my dad. I told him how much I loved him and that I would always and forever be his Krissie…his Noodles. As I folded my note, I stuck in a picture of me with a saying I had always heard, “Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy.” Early the next morning, as my dad left our house, I slipped my letter into one of his bags. Two weeks later, my mother told me that they decided that there were things that the both of them could and would change and that their marriage was worth saving, “Well, Dad said that when he read your letter, it made him cry. It meant a lot to him and I have hardly ever seen your dad cry. After he read your letter, he called to ask if he could come over to talk. Whatever you said really made a difference to your dad.” A few days later my dad was back. We never talked about the letter. I guessed it became a secret between us. 4. Why did the author’s father decide to leave? A. Because he was poor in showing his feelings. B. Because his wife was always giving orders. C. Because serious problems occurred in their marriage. D. Because the strain on father-daughter relationship was evident. 5. How did the author feel when her father decided to leave? A. Upset B. Annoyed C. Doubtful D. Excited 6. The underlined sentence in paragraph 2 means________. A. a man who develops some special talents can be a real father B. a man who raises special children can become a real father C. a man may have to give in to his wife to be a daddy D. a man may have to give up a lot to be a real father 7.What’s the main idea of the passage? A. How the author’s parents enjoyed a happy marriage. B. How a letter saved the author’s parents’ marriage C. The divorce had a great influence on the author D. The author had a good relationship with his parents. C Children have their own rules in playing games. They seldom need a referee(裁判) and rarely trouble to keep scores. They don't care much about who wins or loses, and it does not seem to worry them if the game is not finished. Yet, they like games that depend a lot on luck, so that their personal abilities cannot be directly compared. They also enjoy games that move in stages, in which each stage, the choosing of leaders, the picking-up of sides, or the determining of which side shall start, is almost a game in itself. Grown-ups can hardly find children's games exciting, and they often feel puzzled at why their kids play such simple games again and again. However, it is found that a child plays games for very important reasons. He can be a good player without having to think whether he is a popular person, and he can find himself being a useful partner to someone of whom he is ordinarily afraid. He becomes a leader when it comes to his turn. He can be confident, too, in particular games, that it is his place to give orders, to pretend to be dead, to throw a ball actually at someone, or to kiss someone he has caught. It appears to us that when children play a game they imagine a situation under their control. Everyone knows the rules, and more importantly, everyone plays according to the rules. Those rules may be childish, but they make sure that every child has a chance to win. 8.What is true about children when they play games? A.They can stop playing any time they like. B.They can test their personal abilities. C.They want to pick a better team. D.They don’t need rules. 9.To become a leader in a game the child has to_________ . A. play well B. wait for his turn C. be confident in himself D. be popular among his playmates 10.What do we know about grown-ups? A.They are not interested in games. B. They find children's games too easy. C.They don't need a reason to play games. D.They don't understand children’s games. 11.The writer believes that________ . A. children should make better rules for their games. B. children should invite grown-ups to play with them. C. children's games can do them a lot of good D. children play games without reasons D Six volunteers are about to find out what it would be like to live on Mars without ever leaving the Earth. Three men and three women will spend eight months living in a special place on the side of a volcano in Hawaii. They are part of an experiment that is designed to mimic(模仿)life on Mars. Their mission began on October 15, 2014. NASA says it could send astronauts to Mars as early as the 2030s. The mission would take more than two years, so NASA needs to know how people would react to living in a small group, isolated from the rest of the world, for such a long time. Some people may become depressed or bored living under those conditions. By studying people living in similar conditions here on Earth, NASA hopes to learn how to choose the most suitable people for a space mission, and how to help them get along. They will live in a two-story building. The ground floor is about 86 square meters, roughly the size of a small two-bedroom apartment. It includes shared areas like kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laboratory and an exercise room. The upstairs is less than half the size of the downstairs. It contains another bathroom and six small bedrooms. The building is located in an abandoned quarry(采石场)about 2,400 meters up the side of Mauna Loa, the second biggest volcano(火山) in the world. It is constantly monitored(监测) for signs of volcanic activity. NASA chose the location because the appearance looks very similar to Mars. To make it more like being on Mars in the future, they are only able to communicate by email during the experiment. Meanwhile, there will be a 20-minute delay between the time when a message is sent and that when it is received. When they go outside, they will have to suit up in full spacesuits, just as if they were on Mars. The commander is Martha Lenio, a 34-year-old Canadian. During the mission, she will run experiments on growing food. The other members have backgrounds in physics and so on. None of them are astronauts. 12. When will the six volunteers end their mission about mimicking life on Mars? A. On June 15, 2015. B. On October 15, 2015. C. On October 15, 2030. D. On June 15, 2032. 13.What’s the main purpose of the experiment? A. To monitor signs of volcanic activity. B. To prepare for a space mission to Mars. C. To train the six people to become astronauts. D. To study the difference between men and women. 14.Mauna Loa was chosen as the experimental site because _________. A. it is located near a rocket base B. other people can hardly find the location C. .its landscape is so much like that of Mars D .it is a safe place to conduct the experiment 15.What can be inferred from the passage? A. Martha is a famous expert on agriculture. B. The six volunteers will be sent to Mars in 2030. C. All the experimental activities are done in doors. D. It takes about 40 minutes to get a reply to an email. 第二节(共5小题,每题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题 卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Eyesight plays a very important role in our daily life.
