Yet, I was determined to go ahead. I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was “not athletic”. The idea that I was ‘not athletic’ stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills! The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself. Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带) became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted! At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!” By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again. By mile 21, I was starving! As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running. I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had. Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels, I can now call myself a “marathon winner”. 21. A month before the marathon, the author ____________. A. was well trained B. felt scared C. made up his mind to run D. lost hope 22. Why did the author mention the P.E. class in his 7th year? A. To acknowledge the support of his teacher. B. To amuse the readers with a funny story. C. To show he was not talented in sports. D. To share a precious memory. 23. How was the author’s first marathon? A. He made it. B. He quit halfway. C. He got the first prize. D. He walked to the end. B To Friend or Not to Friend We all love our parents and turn to them when we’re in need, but would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends on the school playground or lunch queue? Social networking sites have become extensions of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends? In the past the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day to day lives as they always had because they had no need to know more about technology. However, more and more parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation to educate themselves about social networking sites. These days many people are attracted to social networking sites because they can choose who they have around them; there’s also a certain amount of control over privacy that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member. It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow a parent to become a part of our online lives. On the one hand we don’t want to “reject” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. On the other hand if you do accept, then you could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way you did before. A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it personally if their child ignores their request: “When a teen ignores a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to be independent.” Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow if you do choose not to add them to your friends list. 24. From Paragraph 2, we learn that ______. A. parents feel secure about their privacy online B. social networks successfully fill the generation gap C. parents have realized the importance of social networks D. social networks offer a platform for parents to communicate 25. Teenagers may refuse a parent’s friend request because ______. A. they hide something from their parents B. their parents make negative comments on them C. their parents tend to fall behind in technology D. they are unwilling to be watched by parents 26. The passage is written mainly for ______. A. teenagers B. parents C. teachers D. researchers C One of India’s top engineering schools has restricted(限制) Internet access in its boarding houses, saying addiction to surfing, gaming and blogging was affecting students’ performance, making them lonely and even suicidal. Authorities at the best Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mumbai said students had stopped socializing and many were late for morning classes or slept through them. “Now, a student doesn’t even know who lives two doors away from him because he is so busy on the Internet,” said Prakash Gopalan, dean of Student Affairs. “The old dormitory culture of companionship and socializing among students is gone. This is not healthy in our opinion.” IIT-Mumbai, with about 5,000 students, is one of the seven IITs across India which are considered to be among the finest engineering schools in the world. They are also a talent pool for global technology giants. But their hard courses, tough competition and lonely campus lifestyle have taken an effect on students. Depressive and dysfunctional lifestyles are known to be common among IIT students, and at least nine have committed suicide(自杀) in the past five years. Students have unlimited free Internet access in their boarding houses to help them in their studies, but many also use it to surf, chat, download movies and music, blog and for gaming. “Starting Monday, Internet access will be banned between 11 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. at IIT-Mumbai’s 13 boarding buildings to encourage students to sleep early and to try and force them out of their shells.” Gopalan said. But the move has not gone down well with students who say they hate their lives being regulated. “Now they will say we need to listen to a lullaby (摇篮曲) to go to sleep.” said Rajiv, an electronics student. 27. According to the text, the students addicted to the Internet in IIT-Mumbai are likely to ______. A. perform well in studies B. participate in social activities学.科 .C. know their classmates better D. feel lonely and even suicidal 28. The underlined word “dysfunctional” in Paragraph 3 most probably means “______”. A. unpopular B. meaningful C. abnormal D. exciting 29. What measures have been taken in IIT-Mumbai? A. Students must go to bed before 11 p.m. B. Students are forbidden to surf the Internet on campus. C. Students have unlimited free Internet access in their dormitories. D. Internet access is unavailable in deep night in boarding buildings. 30. We may infer from the last paragraph that ______. A. all electronics students hate the banning order B. some students complain about the banning order C. there is no Internet access on the IIT campus ever since D. more students prefer listening to music to surfing the Internet 第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两选项为多余选项。(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) Recently, I’ve been following a simple rule that is helping me crush procrastination(拖延症) and making it easier for me to stick to good habits at the same time. 31 There are two parts to the 2-Minute Rule. Part 1—If it takes less than two minutes, then do it now. 32 For example, washing your dishes immediately after your meal, tossing the laundry in the washing machine, taking out the garbage, sending that email, and so on. If a task takes less than two minutes to complete, then follow the rule and do it right now. Part 2—When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to do. Can all of your goals be accomplished in less than two minutes? Obviously not. But, every goal can be started in 2 minutes or less. 33 It might sound like this strategy is too basic for grand life goals, but I beg to differ. The 2-Minute Rule works for big goals as well as small goals because of the inertia(惯性)of life. 34 I love the 2-Minute Rule because it embraces the idea that all sorts of good things happen once you get started. The most important part of any new habit is getting started—not just the first time, but each time. It’s not about performance,it’s about consistently taking action. I can’t guarantee whether or not the 2-Minute Rule will work for you. 35 Anyone can spare the next 120 seconds.Use this time to get one thing done.Go. A. I call this little strategy the “2-Minute Rule”. B. And that’s the purpose behind this little rule. C. Here’s what you need to know to stop procrastinating. D. Once you start doing something, it’s easier to continue doing it. E. But, I can guarantee that it will never work if you never try it. F. The goal is to make it easier for you to get started on the things you should be doing. Others may spend an entire study period with a smartphone in hand. Some people argue that the increasing use of technology can have many helpful effects on society. But a recent research suggests that using technology during class time may harm college students ability to remember and process the subject material. Arnold Glass, a professor in Rutgers University in New Jersey4, and a student researcher investigated the issue of divided student attention. The study involved 118 Rutgers students who were taking the same level college class. The students were permitted to use any electronic device during half of their daily class periods. During the other half no one was allowed to use any technology. The researchers found that the average daily quiz results showed no evidence of harmful effects from the use of technology. However, the average results of the larger tests and final exam showed that all the students performed poorly when they were permitted to use technology in the classroom. Glass argues that it shows the use of electronic devices in the classroom prevents students from processing information. When the students hear what the professor is saying, they might be buying things online or reading unrelated emails at the same time. And that, Glass says, makes it harder for the information to enter their long term memory. Even though the students know what the professor said at that time, they no longer remember it a week later because they missed the opportunity. However, Lauren Margulieux, an assistant professor at Georgia State University in Atlanta argues that there are times when classroom use of technology is unavoidable. So, he says, educators need to consider that something other than technology is distracting students. In fact, a special software program has been created. Students can use the program, which engages students more with the class material on their personal devices during a given class. It can also be used to observe student activity and prevent them from opening unrelated pages and programs. 厦门市湖滨中学2019---2020学年第一学期期中考 高二英语试卷(答案) 第一部分 听力 1. A 2. C 3. A 4. B 5. A 6. C 7. B 8. C 9.
