I was lucky: I became a pilot in 1970, almost ten years before I graduated from medical school. I didn’t realize then, but becoming a pilot makes me a better surgeon. I loved flying. As 1 flew bigger, faster planes, and in worse weather, I learned about crew resource management (机组资源管理), or CRM, a new idea to make flying safer. It means that crew members should listen and speak up for a good result, regardless of positions.‎ I first read about CRM in 1980. Not long after that, an attending doctor and I were flying in bad weather. The controller had us turn too late to get our landing ready. The attending doctor was flying; I was safety pilot. He was so busy because of the bad turn, he had forgotten to put the landing gear (起落架) down. He was a better pilot—and my boss—so it felt unusual to speak up. But I had to: Our lives were in danger. I put aside my uneasiness sand said, “We need to put the landing gear down now!” That was my first real lesson in the power of CRM, and I’ve used it in the operating room ever since.‎ CRM requires that the pilot/surgeon encourage others to speak up. It further requires that when opinions are from the opposite, the doctor doesn’t overreact, which might prevent fellow doctors from voicing opinions again. So when I’m in the operating room, I ask for ideas and help from others. Sometimes they’re not willing to speak up. But I hope that if I continue to encourage them, someday someone will keep me from “landing gear up”.‎ ‎24.What does the author say about doctors in general?‎ A. They like flying by themselves. B. They are quick learners of CRM.‎ C. They pretend to be good pilots. D. They are unwilling to take advice.‎ ‎25.The author deepened his understanding of the power of CRM when .‎ A. his boss landed the plane too late B. he was in charge of a flying task C. he saved the plane by speaking up D. his boss operated on a patient ‎26.In the last paragraph landing gear up probably means .‎ A. following flying requirements B. making a mistake that may cost lives C. listening to what fellow doctors say D. overreacting to different opinions ‎27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?‎ A. CRM: A New Way to Make Flying Safe B. A Pilot-Turned Doctor C. The Making of a Good Pilot D. Flying Makes Me a Better Doctor C I read somewhere that we spend a full third of our lives waiting. But where are we doing all of this waiting, and what does it mean to an impatient society like ours? To understand the issue, let’s take a look at three types of “waits”.‎ The very purest form of waiting is the Watched-Pot Wait. It is without doubt the most annoying of all. Take filling up the kitchen sink(洗碗池) as an example. There is absolutely nothing you can do while this is going on but keep both eyes fixed on the sink until it’s full. During these waits, the brain slips away from the body and wanders about until the water runs over the edge of the counter and onto your socks. This kind of wait makes the waiter helpless and mindless.‎ A cousin to the Watched-Pot Wait is the Forced Wait. This one requires a bit of discipline. Properly preparing packaged noodle soup requires a Forced Wait. Directions are very specific. “Bring three cups of water to boil, add mix, simmer three minutes, remove from heat, let stand five minutes.”I have my doubts that anyone has actually followed the procedures strictly. After all, Forced Waiting requires patience.‎ Perhaps the most powerful type of waiting is the Lucky-Break Wait. This type of wait is unusual in that it is for the most part voluntary. Unlike the Forced Wait, which is also voluntary, waiting for your lucky break does not necessarily mean that it will happen.‎ Turning one’s life into a waiting game requires faith and hope, and is strictly for the optimists among us. On the surface it seems as ridiculous as following the directions on soup mixes, but the Lucky-Break Wait well serves those who are willing to do it. As long as one doesn’t come to rely on it, wishing for a few good things to happen never hurts anybody.‎ We certainly do spend a good deal of our time waiting. The next time you’re standing at the sink waiting for it to fill while cooking noodle soup that you’ll have to eat until a large bag of cash falls out of the sky, don’t be desperate. You’re probably just as busy as the next guy.‎ ‎28.While doing a Watched-Pot Wait, we tend to ___________.‎ A.get absent-minded B. keep ourselves busy C. grow anxious D. stay focused ‎29.What can we learn about the Lucky-Break Wait?‎ A. It is less voluntary than the Forced Wait. B. It doesn’t always bring the desired result.‎ C. It is more fruitful than the Forced Wait. D. It doesn’t give people faith and hope.‎ ‎30.What does the author advise us to do the next time we are waiting?‎ A. Take it seriously. B. Don’t rely on others.‎ C. Do something else. D. Don’t lose heart.‎ ‎31.The author supports his view by _________.‎ A. exploring various causes of “waits”.‎ B. describing detailed processes of “waits”.‎ C. analyzing different categories of “waits”‎ D. revealing frustrating consequences of “waits”‎ ‎ D The Intelligent Transport team at Newcastle University have turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named “DriveLAB” in order to understand the challenges faced by older drivers and to ‎ discover where the key stress points are.‎ Research shows that giving up driving is one of the key reasons for a fall in health and well-being among older people, leading to them becoming more isolated(隔绝) and inactive.‎ Led by Professor Phil Blythe, the Newcastle team are developing in-vehicle technologies for older drivers which they hope could help them to continue driving into later life.‎ These include custom-made navigation(导航) tools, night vision systems and intelligent speed adaptations. Phil Blythe explains: “For many older people, particularly those living alone or in the country, driving is important for preserving their independence, giving them the freedom to get out and about without having to rely on others.”‎ ‎“But we all have to accept that as we get older our reactions slow down and this often results in people avoiding any potentially challenging driving conditions and losing confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to.”‎ Dr Amy Guo, the leading researcher on the older driver study, explains, “The DriveLAB is helping us to understand what the key points and difficulties are for older drivers and how we might use technology to address these problems.‎ ‎“For example, most of us would expect older drivers always go slower than everyone else but surprisingly, we found that in 30mph zones they struggled to keep at a constant speed and so were more likely to break the speed limit and be at risk of getting fined. We’re looking at the benefits of systems which control their speed as a way of preventing that.‎ ‎“We hope that our work will help with technological solutions(解决方案) to ensure that older drivers stay safer behind the wheel.”‎ ‎32.What is the purpose of the Drivel AB?‎ A. To explore new means of transport. B. To design new types of cars.‎ C. To find out older driver`s problems. D. To teach people traffic rules.‎ ‎33.Why is driving important for older people according to Phil Blythe?‎ A.It builds up their strength. B. It helps them save time.‎ C.It keeps them independent. D. It cures their mental illnesses.‎ ‎34.What do researchers hope to do for older drivers?‎ A. Improve their driving skills. B. Develop driver-assist technologies.‎ C. Provide tips on repairing their cars. D. Organize regular physical checkups.‎ ‎35.What is the best title for the text?‎ A. A new Model Electric Car B. A Solution to Traffic Problems C. Driving Services for elders D. Keeping Older Drivers on the Road 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ With the development of society, the life span of humans has stretched. Both men and women are living longer these days in industrialized countries. 36. In general, they can expect to live six or seven years more than men. One reason for this is biological.‎ One important biological factor that helps women live longer is the difference in hormones between men and women. 37. Between the ages of about 12 and 50, women produce hormones that are involved in fertility(生育能力). These hormones also have a positive effect on the heart and blood flow. In fact, women are less likely to have high blood pressure or to die from heart attacks.‎ ‎38. They help the boy defend itself against some kinds of infections. This means that women generally get sick less often and less seriously than men. The common cold is a good example: women, on average, get fewer colds than men. ‎ ‎ 39. Scientists are still not exactly sure how genes influence aging, but they believe that they do. Some think that a woman’s body cells have a tendency to age more slowly than a man’s. Others think that a man’s body cells have a tendency to age more quickly. 40. ‎ A.Recent research seems to support both of these possibilities.‎ B. The female hormones also protect the body in another way. ‎ C. Women are also helped by their female genes.‎ D.The biological factor plays an important part.‎ E. However, women, on average, live longer.‎ F. Therefore, women are more healthy than men and can live a better life.‎ G. Hormones are chemicals which are produced by the body to control various body functions.‎ 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ Two weeks earlier, my son, Ben, had got in touch. Let me explain a little about it. As you may know already, it’s a required meeting once a week. I expect you to do all the experiments and keep the results in your lab notebook. I’ll collect the notebooks every two weeks. You’ll be graded on lab notebooks and quizzes. But the most important information I want to give you now is about safety. First of all, you must wear shoes that cover your feet in the lab. Tennis shoes are OK. Also, don’t wear loose clothes, long scarves, big necklaces, or loose belts — they get caught in something or fall into liquid. Another thing to do for safety is cleaning up. Be sure to put the waste in the correct containers. We can’t mix liquid with paper. This is extremely important. I don’t want any fires in this room. You are responsible for washing out your own lab equipment and putting it away. If you don’t do this, I will take away points from your grade. Nobody’s going to clean up after you. OK, any questions?‎ 听力 ‎1-5CCBCA 6-10BACBA 11-15ACBAB 16-20CAAAB 阅读理解 ‎21-23BCA 24-27DCBD 28-31ABDC 32-35CCBD ‎ 七选五 ‎36-40EGBCA 完形填空 ‎41-45AABCA 46-50BDBAD 51-55ABCDA 56-60DACAB 语法填空 ‎61.is loved 62.Recently 63.caring/careful 64.to eat 65.enemies ‎66.When/If 67.For 68.Its 69.Drove 70.and 改错短文 ‎71.with→on 72.去掉he前的so 73.have→has 74.healthy→health ‎75.which→what 76. paid后面加a 77.her改成his 78.step改成stepped ‎79.Picture改成pictures 80.many改成much 书面表达 Dear Sir/Madam,‎ I am Li Hua, a Senior 3 student.
