The Olympic Games疑难解答 ‎ 山东 孙玉忠 一、问：课文中出现了used to 这个词组，这个词组的用法很多，具体的还有哪一些呢？‎ 答：课文中的used to do sth.意为"过去常常做某事"，它表示过去经常发生的动作或存在的状态，而现在已不再发生或存在。这个短语含有今昔对比之意，其否定形式常用used not to或didn't use to。反意疑问句中应该用did/didn't或used/ usedn't。例如：‎ I used to swim in this river when I was young.我年轻时常在这条河里游泳。‎ They used to be good friends, didn't they?他们过去是好朋友，是吗？‎ 与其相关的用法还有：‎ ‎1) be used to sth. / doing sth.意为"习惯、适应某事/做某事"，它表示习惯于某一客观事实或状态，其中to是介词，后面跟名词、代词或动名词；be used可用于多种时态；如强调动作可用get或become替换be。例如：‎ Old people are used to getting up early in the morning.老年人习惯早晨很早起床。/ ‎ I wasn't used to city life, but now I have got used to living in this city.我以前不习惯都市生活，但现在我已习惯住在这座城市了。‎ ‎2) be used to do sth.意为"被用来做某事"，其中use表"使用"之意，是被动语态形式，to是动词不定式符号。例如：‎ Wood can be used to make paper.树木可以用来造纸。‎ 二、问：课文中的every four years 如何翻译，关于这方面还有哪些类似情况？‎ 答：every four years 意思为“每四年”， every + 基数词+名词复数，意思可以表示“每……”。very + 基数词+名词复数，例如：‎ She comes to see us every four months.她每四个月来看我们一次。 ‎ They built a gas station every 500 kilometers.他们在每五百公里处建了个加油站。‎ ‎ 另外相关的用法还有：‎ ‎1） every + 名词单数，例如： They stopped for a rest every mile.他们每走一英里就停下来休息。‎ ‎2） every +序数词+名词单数，例如：Take the medicine every third day (=every three days). 这药每到第三天服一次。‎ ‎3） every + other +名词单数(表示"每隔……")，例如：We had a flood every other year. (相当于every two years / every second year). 我们每隔一年经受一次洪灾。‎ 注意：every后一般不接some, several, many等, 但可接few, dozen, hundred, other等, 而且其前不能有a。例如：‎ They looked up and gave a smile to each other every few minutes. 他们每隔几分钟就抬起头来互相笑一笑。 ‎ He was stopped every dozen yards by friends who wanted to congratulate him.他每走十几码就被欲向他表示祝贺的朋友拦住。‎ 三、问：Nor could slaves or women…是倒装结构吗？如果是怎么应用？‎ 答：Nor could slaves or women…是倒装结构，意为Slaves or women couldn’t join in, either.‎ neither 用在句首，意思为“也不”, 表示某人或某事与前面所提到的情况相同，这时要用倒装语序。注意前句be为动词, 后句用be；前句为单个实义动词，后句用do/does /did；前句有情态动词或助动词，后句也用相应的情态动词或助动词。如：‎ Mary would never sing, nor would she dance.玛丽既不唱歌，也不跳舞。‎ You don’t live here, and nor/ neither dose he.你不住在这里，他也不住在这里。‎ 四、问：课文中的not only ….but 是什么意思？怎么用？‎ 答：课文中的not only …but…相当于not only（just） …but also…，意思是“不仅……而且……”，另外还要注意，如果Not only 位于句首，那么它引导的从句要倒装，但是主句不倒装，例如： ‎ Professor Clab suggested that law should be directed not just at drug importers and main suppliers, but also at local dealers.克莱勃教授建议法律不仅要针对毒品的运输者和供应者，而且要针对当地的交易商。‎ Not only is the teacher himself; all his students are interested in football but beginning to show an interesting init. 不仅老师对足球感兴趣，学生们也开始对足球感兴趣了。‎ 五、问：as well 的意思是“也”，as well as的意思也是“也”，那么二者之间有区别吗？各怎么用？ ‎ 答：as well 的意思是“也,又；同样地；还不如”（常用于肯定句句尾，相当于too ），例如：‎ I'm coming to London and my sister's coming as well.我要来伦敦,我妹妹也会来。‎ Wang Hai is a worker and a militiaman as well.王海是个工人，也是个民兵。‎ 而as well后接as，边接两个同类项（此时as well as 是连词，用来连接两个并列成分），表示“不但，而且，和跟”等意思，强调as well前面的人或事物，这时的谓语动词要和as well as 前面的主语一致，例如：‎ He can speak English as well as you do.他英语说得和你一样好。/She sings as well as her sister.她和她姐姐唱得一样好。‎ The book tells about the writer’s life as well as about his writings. 这本书谈到了作者的生活，也有他的作品。‎ Bob as well as the girls was there. 鲍勃还有一些女孩子在那儿。‎
