A Are you a procrastinator(拖拉者)?It's a common problem. And it can be harmful,as previous research has shown that people who procrastinate have higher levels of stress and a lower sense of wellbeing, reported the Association for Psychological Science in the U.S.But a new study has found a way to deal with this problem:Be more connected to your future self.‎ Psychologists think that each person believes that he or she is really two people:“Present Me”and “Future Me”.“People act as if they prefer their current selves' needs and desires to those of their future selves,”wrote psychologists Neil Lewis and Daphna Oyserman.‎ Oyserman and Lewis decided to try to find a way to make “Present Me”imagine exactly how “Future Me”would feel the night before a big paper was due, though“Present Me”hadn't started yet. They made“Present Me”think about a faroff event as a number of days away, not months or years.‎ Thinking about events in this way meant that something like a friend's wedding seemed 16.3 days sooner when considered in days rather than months and 11.4 months sooner when considered in months rather than years.‎ The researchers also tried to find out whether people would take action sooner if they were told a certain event was happening in X days rather than years. For example, participants imagined they had a newborn child, and that the child would need to go to college in either ‎ 18 years or 6,570 days. The researchers found those in the “days” condition planned to start saving four times sooner than those in the “years” condition.‎ So if you think of your life in days instead of years, you may get things done quicker.‎ ‎1.What did Oyserman and Lewis intend to do through their study?‎ A.To work on a solution to test if someone is a procrastinator.‎ B.To find out whether human beings usually have two different characters.‎ C.To discover procrastinators are more likely to have a lower sense of wellbeing.‎ D.To prove it's helpful to connect our current selves more with future selves.‎ ‎2.What does the underlined part “this way” in Paragraph 4 refer to?‎ A.Setting up tough deadlines.‎ B.Following schedules strictly.‎ C.Counting in smaller units of time.‎ D.Imagining how your future self will feel.‎ ‎3.What does the passage mainly talk about?‎ A.A way to get things done in time.‎ B.The harmful effects of procrastinating.‎ C.The reason to overlook future needs and desires.‎ D.The way to reduce stress and improve happiness.‎ ‎【语篇解读】‎ ‎ 拖拉行为是一种常见的现象,但是新的研究找到了一种解决办法:思考未来。 根据第三段中的“They made‘Present Me’think about a faroff event as a number of days away, not months or years.” 综观全文,特别是最后一段“So if you think of your life in days instead of years, you may get things done quicker.” 故选A项。 A B The study findings about a new blood test have been published this morning in the Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA Cardiology). The study was conducted smoothly and effectively based on their working together between the Canterbury District Health Board(CDHB),New Zealand, and the Christchurch Heart Institute, which is run by the University of Otago,Christchurch,New Zealand.‎ Colead author,Associate Professor John Pickering of the University of Otago, says,“When a patient comes to an emergency department(ED)with symptoms that suggest a potential heart attack,‎ present laboratory bloodtesting procedures can take 1-2 hours to discover the risk level, but with this new test we can get a result in just fifteen minutes, from the bedside,or ‘pointofcare’,freeing up ED and health care staff. The patient can then either be cleared to leave,or quickly progressed to specialist care. The result proves to be true after later observation and other tests.”‎ Senior author, and Director of Emergency Medicine Research,Dr Martin Than of the CDHB says present pointofcare tests can lack the precision of this new method that is centred around a measurement of cardiac troponin(肌钙蛋白)in the blood.“Our results have extremely exciting potential for not only EDs,but also remote health care providers—such as those in the countryside.Given the great effect heart disease and other related conditions have on not only New Zealand society but also the international community,we have something that could benefit tens of millions of patients globally,”Dr Than says.‎ The analysis of this observational study, conducted from 2016 to 2017 at Christchurch Hospital's emergency department, included about 350 patients with symptoms of a heart attack.“So far our testing has shown that close to fifty percent of patients could have the heart attack safely and precisely excluded(排除……的可能性) soon after arrival at the ED.Wider study is required to be in progress and some other study concerned across ten District Health Boards in New Zealand is planned for next year,”Dr Than says.‎ ‎4.How did the researchers get the findings?‎ A.By doing effective teamwork.‎ B.By observing patients with heart disease.‎ C.By applying the EDs' advanced technology.‎ D.By receiving support from other specialists.‎ ‎5.Which of the following can best describe the new blood test?‎ A.Convenient and cheap.‎ B.Quick but risky.‎ C.Convenient but expensive.‎ D.Quick and reliable.‎ ‎6.What problem does the present pointofcare method face?‎ A.It spends too much to get medical training.‎ B.It doesn't have its own health care staff.‎ C.It can't check patients' blood accurately.‎ D.It needs money to buy medical equipment.‎ ‎【语篇解读】 laboratory...but with this new test we can get a result in just fifteen minutes”和“The result ‎ proves to be true after later observation and other tests”信息可知,这种新的通过血液检测人是否患有心脏病的方法比传统的方法要快得多,并且很可靠,故选D。 根据第三段中的“present pointofcare tests can lack the precision of this new method that is centred around a
