Modern businesses have been following his lead, with more tactics.‎ One tactic involves where to display the goods. For example, stores place fruits and vegetables in the first section. They know that customers who buy the healthy food first will feel happy so that they will buy more junk food (垃圾食品) later in their trip. In department stores, the women’s shoe ‎ section is generally next to the women’s cosmetics section: while the shop assistant is going back to find the right size shoe, bored customers are likely to wander over and find some cosmetics they might want to try later.‎ Besides, businesses seek to appeal to customers’ senses. Stores notice that the smell of baked goods encourages shopping, so they make their own bread each morning and then fan the bread smell into the store throughout the day. Music sells goods, too. Researchers in Britain found that when French music was played, sales of French wines went up.‎ When it comes to the selling of houses, businesses also use highly rewarding tactics. They find that customers make decisions in the first few seconds upon walking in the door, and turn it into a business opportunity. A California builder designed the structure of its houses smartly. When entering the house, the customer would see the Pacific Ocean through the windows, and then the pool through an open stairway leading to the lower level. The instant view of water on both levels helped sell these $ 10 million houses.‎ ‎24.Why do stores usually display fruits and vegetables in the first section?‎ A.To save customers time. B.To show they are high quality foods.‎ C.To help sell junk food. D.To sell them at discount prices.‎ ‎25.According to Paragraph 3, which of the following encourages customers to buy?‎ A.Opening the store early in the morning. B.Filling the store with the smell of fresh bread.‎ C.Inviting customers to play music. D.Displaying British wines next to French ones.‎ ‎26.What is the California builder’s story intended to prove?‎ A.The house structure is a key factor customers consider.‎ B.The more costly the house is, the better it sells.‎ C.An ocean view is much to the customers’ taste.‎ D.A good first impression increases sales.‎ ‎27.What is the main purpose of the passage?‎ A.To explain how businesses turn people into their customers.‎ B.To introduce how businesses have grown from the past.‎ C.To report researches on customer behavior.‎ D.To show dishonest business practices.‎ C Wealth starts with a goal saving a dollar at a time. Call it the piggy bank strategy. There are lessons in that time-honored coin-saving container.‎ Any huge task seems easier when reduced to baby steps. I f you wished to climb a 12,000-foot mountain, and could do it a day at a time, you would only have to climb 33 feet daily to reach the top in a year. If you want to take a really nice trip in 10 years for a special occasion, to collect the $15,000 cost, you have to save $3.93 a day. If you drop that into a piggy bank and then once a year put $1,434 in a savings account at 1% interest rate after-tax, you will have your trip money.‎ When I was a child, my parents gave me a piggy bank to teach me that, if I wanted something, I should save money to buy it. We associate piggy banks with children, but in many countries, the little containers are also popular with adults. Europeans see a piggy bank as a sign of good fortune and wealth. Around the world, many believe a gift of a piggy bank on New Year’s Day brings good luck and financial success. Ah, but you have to put something in it.‎ Why is a pig used as a symbol of saving? Why not an elephant bank, which is bigger and holds more coins? In the Middle Ages, before modern banking and credit instruments, people saved money at home, a few coins at a time dropped into a jar or dish. Potters made these inexpensive containers from an orange-colored clay called “pygg,” and folks saved coins in pygg jars. The Middle English word for pig was “pigge”. While the Saxons pronounced pygg, referring to the clay, as “pug”, eventually the two words changed into the same pronunciation, sounding the “i” as in pig or piggy. As the word became less associated with the orange clay and more with the animal, a clever potter fashioned a pygg jar in the shape of a pig, delighting children and adults. The piggy bank was born.‎ Originally you had to break the bank to get to the money, bringing in a sense of seriousness into savings. While piggy banks teach children the wisdom of saving, adults often need to relearn childhood lessons. Think about the things in life that require large amounts of money--- college education, weddings, cars, medical care, starting a business, buying a home, and fun stuff like great trips. So when you have money, take off the top 10%, put it aside, save and invest wisely.‎ ‎28.What is the piggy bank strategy?‎ A.Paying 1% income tax at a time. ‎ B.Setting a goal before making a travel plan.‎ C.Aiming high even when doing small things.‎ D.Putting aside a little money regularly for future use.‎ ‎29.What does then underlined word “something”(Paragraph 3) most probably refer to?‎ A.Money B.Gifts C.Financial success D.Good luck ‎30.The piggy ban originally was _________.‎ A.a potter’s instrument B.a cheap clay container C.an animal-shaped dish D.a pig-like toy for children ‎31.The last paragraph talks about ________.‎ A.the seriousness of educating children B.the enjoyment of taking a great trip C.the importance of managing money D.the difficulty of starting a business D If humans were truly at home under the light of the moon and stars,we would go in darkness happily, the midnight world as visible to us as it is to the vast number of nocturnal(夜间活动的 ‎) species on this planet. Instead,we are diurnal creatures, with eyes adapted to living in the sun’s light. This is a basic evolutionary fact, even though most of us don’t think of ourselves as diurnal beings. Yet it’s the only way to explain what we’ve done to the night: We’ve engineered it to receive us by filling it with light.‎ The benefits of this kind of engineering come with consequences 一 called light pollution 一 whose effects scientists are only now beginning to study. Light pollution is largely the result of bad lighting design, which allows artificial light to shine outward and upward into the sky. III-designed lighting washes out the darkness of night and completely changes the light levels 一 and light rhythms — to which many forms of life, including ourselves, have adapted. Wherever human light spills into the natural world, some aspect or life is affected . ‎ In most cities the sky looks as though it has been emptied of stars, leaving behind a vacant haze(霾) that mirrors our fear of the dark. We’ve grown so used to this orange haze that the original glory of an unlit nigh, - dark enough for the planet Venus to throw shadow on Earth- is wholly beyond our experience, beyond memory almost.‎ We’ve lit up the night as if it were an unoccupied country, when nothing could be further form the truth. Among mammals alone, the number of nocturnal species is astonishing, Light is a powerful biological force, and on many species it acts as a magnet(磁铁). The effect is so powerful that scientists speak of songbirds and seabirds being “captured” by searchlights on land or by the light from gas flares on marine oil platforms. Migrating at night, birds tend to collide with brightly lit tall buildings.‎ Frogs living near brightly lit highways suffer nocturnal light levels that are as much as a million times righter than normal, throwing nearly every aspect of their behavior out of joint including most other creatures, we do need darkness. Darkness is as essential to our biological welfare, to our internal clockwork, as light itself.‎ Living in a glare of our making,we have cut ourselves off from our evolutionary and cultural heritage—the light of the stars and the rhythms of day and night. In a very real sense light pollution causes us to lose sight of our true place in the universe, to forget the scale of our being, which is best measured against the dimensions of a deep night with the Milky Way—the edge of our galaxy— arching overhead.‎ ‎32.According to the passage, human being .‎ A.prefer to live in the darkness B.are used to living in the day light ‎ C.were curious about the midnight world D.had to stay at home with the light of the moon ‎33.The writer mentions birds and frogs to .‎ A.provide examples of animal protection B.show how light pollution affects animals C.compare the living habits of both species D.explain why the number of certain species has declined ‎34.It is implied in the last paragraph that .‎ A.light pollution dose harm to the eyesight of animals ‎ B.light pollution has destroyed some of the world heritages C.human beings cannot go to the outer space D.human beings should reflect on their position in the universe ‎35.What might be the best title for the passage?‎ A.The Disappearing Night B.The Orange Haze C.The Magic light D.The Rhythms of Nature 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) ‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Public Speaking Training ‎·Get a coach ‎36 ,so get help. Since there are about a billion companies out there all ready to offer you public speaking training and courses, here are some things to look for when deciding the training that's right for you.‎ ‎·Focus on positives ‎ Any training you do to become more effective at public speaking should always focus on the positive aspects of what you already do well. Nothing can hurt confidence more than being told that you aren't doing well. 37 , so good public speaking training should develop those instead of telling you what you shouldn't do. ‎ ‎· 38 ‎ If you find a public speaking course that looks as though it's going to give you lots of dos and don'ts, walk away! Your brain is so full of what you're going to be talking about. 39 . As far as we're concerned, there are basically no hard and fast rules about public speaking. Your audience can be your friends.‎ ‎·You are a special person not a clone Most importantly, good public speaking training should treat you as a special one, with your own personal habits. 40 . Your training course should help you bring out your personality, not try to turn you into someone you're not.‎ A.You aren't like anybody else B.So trying to force a whole set of rules into it will just make things worse C.Turn your back on too many rules D.Check the rules about dos and don'ts E. Whatever the presentation, public speaking is tough F .The one thing you don't want is for them to fall asleep G. You already do lots of things well ‎ 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ One of the easiest things in the world is to become a fault-finder. However, life can be 41 when you are not busy finding fault with it.‎ Several years ago I 42 a letter from seventeen-year-old Kerry, who described herself as a world-class fault-finder, almost always 43 by things. People were always doing things that annoyed her, and 44 was ever good enough. She was highly self-critical and also found fault with her friends. She became a really 45 person.‎ Unfortunately, it took a horrible accident to change her 46 . Her best friend was seriously hurt in a car crash. What made it almost 47 to deal with was that the day before the 48 , Kerry had visited her friend and had spent the whole time criticizing her 49 of boyfriends, the way she was living, the way she related to her mother, and various other things she felt she needed to 50 . It wasn’t until her friend was badly hurt that Kerry became 51 her habit of finding fault. Very quickly, she learned to appreciate life rather than to 52 everything so harshly(刻薄). She was able to transfer her new wisdom to other parts of her 53 as well.‎ Perhaps most of us aren’t as extreme at fault-finding, 54 when we’re honest, we can be sharply 55 of the world. I’m not suggesting you 56 problems, or that you pretend things are 57 than they are, but simply that you learn to allow things to be as they are — 58 most of the time, and especially when it’s not a really big 59 .‎ Train yourself to "bite your tongue", and with a little 60 , you’ll get really good at letting things go. And when you do, you’ll get back your enthusiasm and love for life.‎ ‎41.A.lonely B.great C.quiet D.uneasy ‎42.A.rejected B.answered C.expected D.received ‎ ‎43.A.threatened B.interrupted C.bothered D.spoiled ‎44.A.anything B.everything C.something D.nothing ‎45.A.caring B.boring C.interesting D.surprising ‎46.A.attitude B.plan C.measure D.explanation ‎47.A.urgent B.unnecessary C.certain D.impossible ‎48.A.occasion B.event C.accident D.adventure ‎49.A.choice B.notice C.evidence D.memory ‎50.A.hear B.contribute C.express D.admit ‎51.A.aware of B.afraid of C.curious about D.confused about ‎52.A.discuss B.realize C.judge D.settle ‎53.A.family B.life C.career D.education ‎54.A.so B.or C.but D.for ‎55.A.proud B.sure C.hopeful D.critical ‎56.A.face B.create C.solve D.ignore ‎57.A.rarer B.better C.stranger D.worse ‎58.A.by far B.at last C.at least D.so far ‎59.A.task B.deal C.result D.duty ‎60.A.practice B.speech C.rest D.pity 第II卷(非选择题)‎ 第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)‎ ‎ 阅读下面材料,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。 ‎ Last October, while tending her garden in Mora, Sweden, Lena Pahlsson pulled out a handful of ‎ small 61.(carrot) and was about to throw them away.
