Have you recently started your very first job? Here are some nice tips to guide you through the first few days. Listen more than you talk. Collect the information about how the organization works, and the reasons why, before you offer "helpful" advice. Don’t segregate yourself with people in your age group. Get to know older workers too. The young group may be more fun for happy hours, but those who are a decade or more older than you can possibly help with your career. And you might find out you enjoy the company too! Take mistakes seriously. There’s nothing more disappointing than a worker who made a mistake and doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal. When you make a mistake, immediately be responsible for it, figure out how you’re going to fix it ,and make it clear that you understand its seriousness. Responses like " my bad" or worse, no response at all, signal that you don’t take work seriously. Take notes. Your boss expects you to remember the special instructions you were given. For most people, that means taking notes. And while a good manager is happy to answer questions ,she won’t be if the questions are ones she already answered when you weren’t bothering to pay attention. Be open to learning. College gave you theory ; work is going to give something entirely different. So stay modest and realize your first job is going to be largely about learning. Thank people who help you. When your boss or an other coworker takes the time to help you with something, give them a sincere " thank you" . People who feel appreciated are more likely to go out of their way for you again. If you Don’t seem to care , they probably won’t bother again. 1.The passage is ,written for . A. new advisers B. company leaders C. old workers D.fresh graduates 2.The underlined word “segregate” probably means . A. connect B. treat C. separate D. share 3.From the last two paragraphs we can learn . A. we should care for others’ help B. we should often help our co-workers C. we shouldn’t bother to appreciate others D. work can also give us some theory B Success is often measured by the ability to overcome adversity. But,it is often the belief of others that gives us the courage to try. J.K.Rowling,author of the Harry Potter book series, began writing at the age of 6.In her biography, she remembers with great fondness when her good friend Sean, whom she met in secondary school, became the first person to encourage her and help build the confidence that one day she would be a very good writer. “He was the first person with whom I really discussed my serious ambition to be a writer. He was also the only person who thought I was bound to be a success at it,which meant much more to me than I ever told him at the time.” Despite many setbacks,Rowling persevered in her writing, particularly fantasy stories. But it wasn’t until 1990 that she first conceived the idea about Harry Potter. As she recalls,it was on a long train journey from London to Manchester that the idea of Harry Potter simply fell into her head.“To my immense frustration (沮丧),I didn’t have a functioning pen with me,and I was too shy to ask anybody if I could borrow one.I think, now, that this was probably a good thing, because I simply sat and thought, for four (delayed train) hours, and all the details bubbled up in my brain, and this scrawny, blackhaired, bespectacled (戴眼镜的) boy who didn’t know he was a wizard became more and more real to me.” That same year, her mother passed away after a tenyear battle with multiple sclerosis, which deeply affected her writing. She went on to marry and had a daughter, but separated from her husband shortly afterwards. During this time,Rowling was diagnosed with clinical depression.Unemployed, she completed her first novel in area cafes, where she could get her daughter to fall asleep. After being rejected by 12 publishing houses, the first Harry Potter novel was sold to a small British publishing house. Now with seven books that have sold nearly 400 million copies in 64 languages,J.K.Rowling is the highest earning novelist in history. And it all began with her commitment to writing that was fostered by the confidence of a friend! 4.Who believed J.K.Rowling was to be a good writer? A.Her daughter. B.Her mother. C.Her friend Sean D.Her husband. 5.She felt frustrated on the train because________. A.her train was delayed for four hours B.her mind suddenly went blank C.she didn’t have a pen with her D.no one would offer her help 6.It can be concluded from Paragraph 5 and 6 that Rowling is________. A.openminded B.strongwilled C.goodnatured D.warmhearted 7.The text mainly tells us________. A.hardship makes a good novelist B.encouragement contributes to one’s success C.you can have a wonderful idea everywhere D.the courage to try is a special ability C My daughter went to see The Wild One recently and she commented that Marlon Brando was wearing jeans so long ago. Of course he helped set the trend, so that got me thinking about the link between films and trends in fashion. Fashion and films have gone hand in hand for long. The Wild One is a good example: it appeared in 1954, starring Brando. Dressed in a black leather motorcycle jacket, leather cap and jeans, he created a look which is still considered “cool” today. Everyone from Madonna to middle-aged men is seen wearing the classic leather motorcycle jacket. Another strong influence on fashion trends was Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn. She made famous the simple black dress that looks perfect at either a cocktail party or just standing around an expensive department store like Tiffany’s with a pastry and coffee in your hand, as Audrey Hepburn does in the film. She looks so elegant, wearing simple but beautiful dresses, big dark glasses and a string of pearls around her neck. Audrey Hepburn still influences women’s fashion with her “Tiffany’s look”. In more modern times, the film star Uma Thurman created a major fashion trend when she appeared in the film Pulp Fiction, made in 1994. Her style was very simple. Her black trousers, crisp white shirt and hair style was copied by women in the world. Influencing fashion trends can often be about timing. The movie Memoirs of a Geisha came just in time to start a trend in Japanese fashion. It started the Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who wore beautiful silk kimonos(和服), and it won an Oscar for Costume Design. Many travel companies picked up on the trend and ran “geisha trips” to Japan. The film has also led to a regained interest in kimonos. It is now quite common to see young Japanese women wearing kimonos not just on traditional occasions, but at various social events. The fashion is also beginning to spread to western countries. 8. What is the best title of the passage? A. Films and fashion.B.Stars’ fashion.C.Influential films.D.Film cultures. 9. Who will people associate Madonna wearing the leather motorcycle jacket with? A. Zhang Ziyi.B..Marlon Brando.C.Uma Thurman.D.Audrey Hepburn 10. What is implied in the film Breakfast in Tiffany’s according to the passage? A. One can be active by wearing black. A. One can be famous by looking perfect. B. One can be elegant by wearing simply. D.One can be stylish by eating at Tiffany’s. 第二节七选五(共5小题,每题2分,满分10分)Having a shy style isn't necessarily a problem. It's perfectly OK to take time to warm up to new people and situations. Here are some tips for overcoming shy feelings.
