B Have you ever found yourself hyped_up for a new project or program? You get started with much enthusiasm, and about twothirds the way through, you start falling behind. You lose interest, meet some stumbling blocks, and think, “Maybe I should just throw this project out.” Well, you’re not alone. Following through is one of the most challenging tasks, especially when it comes to something you are doing for yourself. I say this because if you were working at a job for somebody else, I am sure you have no problem finishing the task on time, and following through to the end. After all, your job and weekly pay depend on it. I have three ways to get you to achieve your own goals. Decide if You Really Want it: Imagine you say to yourself, “I want to start taking Zumba (尊巴舞) classes.” Yet, you don’t follow through. When you don’t follow through, you need to ask yourself if you really want it. Only when the motivation comes from within, the desire to take action is a lot stronger. Basically, you need to get honest with yourself, and decide if you are motivated to take action by nature, or if it is only something you think you should be doing. Wash Fear Aside: Once you establish that you want it, you may still come across fear. When you REALLY want something, the want must overcome the fear. Decide to give yourself as much care and attention as you would to your job. There will never be a magic pill to get you to take action. Life is too precious to not follow your dreams. Encourage yourself until you get yourself taking action. Imagine your life depends on it. Oh, it does. Schedule it in: Once you have decided that you want something and that you are ready to take action, you need to make sure you take action. Not all things can happen right now and in this moment. If they can, get to it! Otherwise, you must plan it in your calendar, the same way you make a doctor’s appointment or important meeting. Furthermore, when you write your plan down, it will be clearer. It is the first physical step to take action. This action alone starts to build the momentum (动力) you need to continue taking action to follow through on your goal. 24.The passage mainly tells us________. A.that you should take action B.three ways to follow through on your goals C.schedule your task in your calendar D.how to follow your dreams 25.________is not the way to get you to follow through on your goals. A.Schedule it in B.Wash Fear Aside C.Give Yourself as Much Care and Attention as you would D.Decide if You Really Want it 26.Only when you have the________to take action, can you follow through on your goals. A.inner attention B.outer motivation C.outer encouragement D.inner motivation 27.The underlined phrase “hyped up” in the first paragraph has the same meaning as “________”. A.amazed B.astonished C.excited D.inspired C Sometimes, you just can't help it. Maybe you're watching a sad movie, or thinking about the friend who moved away. Next thing you know, you feel pressure in your throat, your eyes are watering, and you have tears running down your cheeks. According to Ad Vingerhoets, a professor of psychology at Tilburg University, in the Netherlands, who is one of the few scientists in the world who have studied crying, there are three types of tears. Basal tears are the first type. They act as a protective barrier between the eye and the rest of the World. Next are reflex tears. They wash your eyes clean when something gets in them. Finally, there are emotional tears. “These are released in response to emotional states,” explains Vingerhoets. Scientists believe crying has something to do with how humans developed and learned to depend on each other. “Humans are very complex social creatures,” says Lauren Bylsma, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania. "It seems that tears serve to arouse help and support from others,” She says. Vingerhoets agrees, "I think that the reason why humans shed tears(流眼泪)has something to do with our childhood, " he says. "that's the time when we are still dependent on adults for love and protection and care. The major advantage of emotional tears is that you can aim them at a specific person." Vingerhoets says this ability could have come in handy in prehistoric times, when humans were living among dangerous animals. Tears were a safer way to get attention. "In this case, it is better to use a silent signal to ask for help, "he says. Vingerhoets and Byhma do frequent studies to better understand why humans cry. According to Byhma, there is still much more to discover. "It's surprising, "she says, "how much we still don't know.” 28. In the scientists' opinion, crying is ________. A. a means of relying on each other B. a result of human kindness C. a cause of personal growth D. a sign of human evolution 29. The underlined phrase "this ability" in the last paragraph refers to the ability to ________. A. seek help wisely B cry emotionally C. aim tears at someone. D. appeal to other people 30. From the text, we learn that Ad Vingerhoets and Lauren Bylsma ________. A. think positively of the effects of tears B. hold different opinions about the causes of tears C. are working together to study tears D. have learned enough about tears 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The types of tears B. The components of tears C. The opinions about tears D. The science of tears D There were smiling children all the way. From then on my journey became interesting.I threw my magazine into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me.Even the trees were smiling.I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time. The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry.I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 p.m.Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth.I looked at the people all around me.They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug (拥抱).I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weatherbeaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
