With API value below 150 the air is free from being polluted. B. On September 8th the color-symbol of Beijing City’s air quality is ‘Blue’. C. The colors from purple to Yellow indicate the air quality is becoming much worse. D. When there are floating solid particles and dust in the air, it is dangerous pollution. B There has been a dramatic increase in the number of natural disasters over the past few years, and it is assumed that global warming and climate change could cause even more disasters in the future. Some of the world's leading cities are facing disasters like floods and heat waves. London London's flood defences are getting older. Since 1982, the Thames Barrier(水闸)has protected the city from the threat of flooding, but it was only designed to last until 2030 and close once every two or three years. About 21 years later the barrier now closes five or six times a year and according to Environment Agency predictions, by 2050 the barrier will be closed on almost every tide if the problem is not addressed. There are 26 underground stations, 400 schools, 16 hospitals,an airport and 80 billion worth of property in London's flood risk area, so large scale flooding would be disastrous. Paris Over a six week period in July and August 2008,more than 11400—mainly elderly people—died in France from dehydration (脱水) and extremely high body temperature in a deadly heat wave. Heat waves of similar intensity(强度)are expected every seven years by 2050, so what can be done to make sure such a disaster does not happen again? One solution is to have air conditioners installed in elderly care homes. But this is considered a short term solution, as the increase in demand for electricity also increases carbon emissions. In Paris the local authorities are encouraging architects to design new types of buildings such as the building “Flower Tower”, which uses a covering of bamboo to act as a natural air conditioner. Shanghai Shanghai is the fastest growing city on Earth. It has a population of 18 million and is only 4 meters above sea level. Sea levels are predicted to rise by 20 cm within the next century. An estimated 250,000 people move to Shanghai every year in search of work, placing extra demands on energy consumption. China relies heavily on coal fired power stations, but these emissions increase temperatures and, in turn, warmer seas increase the risk of typhoons. 58. What problem should be settled now in London? A. How to protect the city's property. B. Where to build its flood defences. C. How to improve the function of the old flood defences. D. How to use the Thames Barrier to protect the city. 59. Which of the following measures can't solve the heat wave disaster in Paris? A. Putting up new types of buildings with a covering of bamboo. B. Having air conditioners installed in elderly care homes. C. Encouraging architects to design new types of buildings. D. Forbidding the city to build “Flower Tower”. 60. The purpose of the passage is ________. A. to tell us how to protect the big cities B. to warn us of the increasing natural disasters in big cities C. to explain what causes flood and heat waves D. to give advice on how to defend natural disasters C Why are so many people so afraid of failure?Quite simply because no one tells us how to fail so that failure becomes an experience that will lead to growth. We forget that failure is part of the human condition and that every person has the right to fail. Most parents work hard at either preventing failure or protecting their children from the knowledge that they have failed. One way is to lower standards.A mother describes her child's hand﹣made table as "Perfect!even though it doesn't stand still.Another way is to shift(转移)blame. If John fails science, his teacher is unfair or stupid. The trouble with failure﹣prevention devices is that they leave a child unequipped for life in the real world. The young need to learn that no one can be best at everything,no one can win all the time﹣and that it's possible to enjoy a game even when they don't win.A child who's not invited to a birthday party, who doesn't make the honor roll on the baseball team, feels terrible,of course. But parents should not offer a quick consolation(安慰),prize or say,"It doesn't matter.because it does. The young should be allowed to experience disappointment﹣and be helped to master it. Failure is never pleasurable. It hurts grown﹣ups and children alike. But it can make a positive contribution to your life once you learn to use it.Step one is to ask "Why did I fail?" Don't blame someone else.Ask yourself what you did wrong, how you can improve. If someone else can help, don't be shy about inquiring(咨询).Success, which encourages repetition of old behavior,is not nearly as good a teacher as failure. You can learn from a bad party how to give a good one, from an ill﹣chosen first house what to look for in a second.Even a failure that seems definitive can prompt fresh thinking,a change of direction. After 12years of studying ballet a friend of mine auditioned(面试)for a professional company. She was turned down."Would further training help?she asked. The ballet master shook his head."You will never be a dancer,he said,"you haven't the body for it. In such cases, the way to use failure is to take stock(鉴定)bravely asking."What have I left? What else can I do?My friend put away her shoes and moved into dance treatment center,a field where she's both able and useful.Failure frees one to take risks because there's less to lose.Often there is recovery(恢复)of energy ─a way to find new possibilities. 61.The second paragraph tells us . A. how a mother praised her children B. how to shift(转移)blame C. parents should blame their children at the proper time. D. two ways of failure prevention most parents used when their children fail 62.According to the author, what should a child know in the real world? A. He should be equipped for life. B. No parents should offer quick consolations. C. No one can be best all the time at everything. D. He can get pleasure from failure as well as success. 63.The underlined word "prompt" in the fifth paragraph can be best replaced by" ". A. improve B. cause C. continue D. prevent 64.From the passage we know that can affect one's life greatly once he learns to use it. A. success B. disappointment C. value. D. failure D You many have heard of the man who decided to repair the roof of his house. To be safe, he tied a rope around his waist and threw the other end of it over the top of the house. He asked his son to tie it to something secure. The boy fastened the safety rope to the bumper of their car parked in the driveway. It seemed like a good idea at the time. But a little while later, his wife, unaware of the rope securing her husband, she started the car and drove away. Imagine what the result would be. This story, factual or not, points to a great truth. It is a truth about where we place our security; about those things to which we’ve tied our safety lines. What is your rope tied to? Think about it. What do you depend on to keep you from disaster? Is your rope tied to a good job? Is it tied to a relationship with somebody you rely on? Is it tied to a company or an organization? Writer Susan Taylor tells of discovering how unreliable some of our safety lines really are. She tells of lying in bed in the early hours of the morning when an earthquake struck. As her house shook, she fell out of bed and managed to go to the doorway, watching in horror as her whole house cracked down around her. Where her bed had once stood, she later discovered nothing but a pile of bricks. She lost everything — every button, every dish, her automobile, every article of clothing. Susan trembled, scared and crying, in the darkness. In the early morning she cried and called out for help. Thoroughly exhausted, she thought that maybe she should be listening for rescuers instead of crying. So she grew still and listened. In the silence around her, the only sound she heard was the beating of her own heart. It occurred to her then that at least she was still alive and, amazingly enough, unhurt. She thought about her situation. In the stillness, fear abandoned her and a feeling of indescribable peace and happiness flooded in, the likes of which she had never before known. It was an experience that was to change her life forever. In the deepest part of her being, Susan realized a remarkable truth. She realized she had nothing to fear. Amazingly, whether or not she was ever rescued, whether she ever made it out alive, she sensed she had nothing to fear. For the first time in her life she understood that her true security did not depend on those things in which she had placed her trust. It lay deep within. And also for the first time, she knew what it was to be content in all circumstances. She realized that whether she had plenty or hardly enough, somehow she would be all right. She just knew it. She later wrote, “Before the quake I appeared very successful, but my life was out of balance. I wasn’t happy because I had been making money and always wanting more. My home, my job, my clothes, a relationship — I thought they were my security. It took an earthquake and losing everything I owned for me to discover that my security had been with me all along…There’s a power within us that we can depend upon no matter what is happening around us.” She had tied her rope to the wrong things. It took a disaster for her to understand that those things are not trustworthy. So she let go of the rope and discovered peace. She found that her true security was a power within- dependable and sure. What is your rope tied to? And what would happen if you found the courage to let go of it? 65 In Paragraph 1, the writer tells the story of the man to___________. A. describe a scene B. introduce a topic C. offer an argument D. satisfy the readers’ curiosity 66. If the story of the man was true, the most probable result would be that___________. A. the bumper of the car broke up B. the house was destroyed by the car C. the man was badly injured or even killed D. the wife was scolded by her husband 67. Why was Susan crying in the darkness? A. Because she was afraid of staying in the dark. B. Because she wanted to be heard by the rescuers. C. Because she was frightened and felt helpless. D. Because she had tied her rope to the wrong thing. 68. What did Susan feel after she thought about her situation? A. She felt she was still alive. B. She felt very peaceful C. She felt completely hopeless. D. She wanted to change her life forever. 69. How did Susan like interpersonal relationship and income before the earthquake? A. They were alternative. B. They were among some choices. C. They were unnecessary. D. They were very important. 70. Which of the following should be the best title? A. A Rope Tied to a Car. B. What to Depend on. C. Please Let Go of Your Trust. D. An Experience from an Earthquake. Blood donation, also called blood banking, is a wonderful thing to do. Recently our class had a heated discussion about it. Through the discussion, we are fully aware of the necessity of carrying out a low carbon economy in our country. Factories have been producing large numbers of harmful chemicals. Meanwhile, human activities also let off carbon gases. As a consequence, all these contribute a lot to serious environmental pollution. What’s worse, with the increase of the population, natural resources will run out. My calssmates put forward the following suggestions about how to develop in a green way. First, more trees should be planted. Second, it is significant for us to recycle and reuse the waste that people throw away. Third, new energy should be developed and promoted as soon as possible. We all think it is our duty to live a low carbon life. We are supposed to save every bit of water and electricity. Besides, we should appeal to the people around us to make contributions to creating a green homeland. We are confident that with our combined efforts, our life will make a great difference. 听力原文: Text 1 M: At which stop will we get off? W: We still have three more stops to go. Text 2 W: Yes? W: Yes, that is a good working salary, but their benefits are terrible. If I were you, I’d think twice before working for them. M: How do you know so much about Joplin’s? W: My husband used to work there. They give no health insurance benefits to their part-time workers, but they’re on call for all the major holidays! Text 8 W: What’s wrong, Charles? You look like you have a lot on your mind. M: Oh, it’s nothing. W: Come on, there’s something wrong. It’s written all over your face. M: Well. OK. Since you’re my best friend, I guess I can tell you. W: Yes, I’m ready. M: Well, my rent was due yesterday, and I couldn’t pay it. W: Really? How much are you short? M: I still need to come up with $ 1000. W: Well, I could lend it to you. M: Really? Thanks. You’re my savior. W: No problem. And you can pay me back whenever you can. M: You’re kidding! Wait a minute, there’s something fishy going on here. W: What are you talking about? M: Now, why would you lend me money? I thought you were broke. W: Well, my bad days are over. M: Did you win the lottery or something? W: No. My rich uncle passed away last week and left me his fortune. M: Are you serious? W: I sure am. I’m set for life. Text 9 W: Hey, you got a new television! M: Yes, it delivered yesterday. What do you think of it? W: It’s huge. It takes up practically the entire side of the room. M: I know, I know. You don’t think it’s ...Well, unreasonable, do you? W: I didn’t say that. I mean if you enjoy it, why not? What happened to your old TV anyhow? M: It just stopped working last Friday. It pretty old and didn’t work well. I thought I could afford it, so I thought, why not get a new one? W: It must have been expensive. M: Well, not as much as you might think. I got it on sale for 50% off. W: Really? Where? M: At a Stereo City on Road 20. You know, at first, I just wanted to replace I had — a TV about the same size and quality, but the salesman was pushing these because of the 50% off sale. W: Yeah, but 50% off what? M: 2400 dollars. W: You spent 1200 dollars on a TV? M: It’s got a lot of special features. Look at this remote control. W: I’m sure it docs. But that’s still a lot of money for a television. I didn’t think you watched TV that much. M: Well. I don’t. Do you think I ought to return it? If I do it within a week of purchase, I can get my money back. W: Yes. And you know what? I think you ought to read up on TV first and choose the make and model you want before you go to the store. That way, you’ll get what you want. Ten 10 People in the United States honor their parents with two specific days: Mother’s Day, on the Second Sunday in May, and Father’s Day, on the third Sunday in June. During these days, Americans show love and respect for their parents. Parents raise their children and educate them to be responsible citizens. They give their children love and care. These two days give us a chance to think about the changing roles of mothers and fathers. More mothers now work outside the home. More fathers must help with childcare. These two special days are celebrated in many different ways. On Mother’s Day, people often wear carnations. And families get together at home, as well as in restaurants. They often have outdoor picnics for Father’s Day. These are days of fun and good feelings and memories. Another tradition is to give cards and gifts. Children can make than in school. Many people make cards for their own parents. These are valued more than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is “the thought that counts.”查看更多
