B “You can you up,no can no bb.” The latest Chinglish buzz phrase, having swept through Chinese cyberspace(网络空间)and society, has now made a landing overseas, entering the US web-based Urban Dictionary. According to the entry put forward by “gingerdesu”,“You can you up” which means “If you can do it,go ahead and do it”,is a Chinglish phrase referring to people who criticize others’ work, especially when the critic is not so much better. As well as “You can you up”,other Chinglish catch phrases, such as “tuhao” and “no zuo no die”,have also been recorded on the site. Coined with roots in Chinese grammar, and even containing Pinyin,Chinglish words and phrases are even spreading beyond grass roots websites. In 2013,“dama” and “tuhao” found their way into The Wall Street Journal and the BBC,and words such as “fengshui”,“chengguan” and “people mountain people sea” have been admitted to the Oxford English Dictionary. “The frequent use of Chinglish by foreign institutions suggests that people are looking more to the lifestyle and popular culture of China,” says Zhang Yiwu, professor of Peking University’s Department of Chinese Language and Literature. “Words like ‘dama’ and ‘tuhao’ are so vivid. My friends and I use them a lot--it’s so much fun,” said Satoshi Nishida,a Japanese student studying at Beijing Language and Culture University. “Behind these Chinglish words and phrases is the Chinese culture. They are reflections of the changes and trends in the Chinese society and they help people from other countries to understand what’s happening in China,” according to Xing Hongbing,a professor of Beijing Language and Culture University. “When the price of gold went down last year, while the super purchasing power of the Chinese bargain-hunting middle-aged women drew worldwide attention, there was no effective way available in other languages to describe them, and ‘dama’ filled the gap very neatly,” says Xing. 25.Why does the author take “dama” for example in the last paragraph? A.To inform us that the price of gold went down last year. B.To show the Chinese women’s super purchasing power. C.To indicate the women drew worldwide attention. D.To suggest the culture and trends in the Chinese society. 26.How many Chinglish words and phrases are mentioned in the passage? A.6. B.7. C.8. D.9. 27.Which of the following is NOT among the reasons why Chinglish becomes popular? A.Chinglish is spreading beyond grass roots websites. B.Foreigners are looking more to the lifestyle and popular culture of China. C.Chinglish is so vivid and much fun such as “dama” and “tuhao”. D.Chinglish is reflections of the changes and trends in the Chinese society. 28.What can be the best title for the text? A.Chinglish swept through Chinese cyberspace B.Behind Chinglish is the Chinese culture C.Chinglish gains popularity overseas D.Different opinion on Chinglish C If you have a bad habit of losing things, a new device that can be connected to any item that you might lose may be the way to solve your problem. The Tile, a small square linked up to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth, lets you see how close you are to the missing item, within a 50-to-150-foot range. If the item goes out of your phone’s 150-foot range, it can still be detected (发现) on other smartphones with the same app. When you log into the app on your phone, it shows you, with green bars that increase or decrease, how far away you are from the Tile. You can also program it to make a sound when you get close to the Tile. And you can link up your phone with up to ten Tiles. And if your lost item — a dog, for example, or a stolen bike — goes out of your own phone’s 150-foot Bluetooth range, you can set it as a “lost item”. If any of the phones with the Tile app comes within the range of your lost item, a message will be sent to your own phone, reminding you of its position. The Tile app also has the function to remember where it last saw your Tile, so that you can easily find where you left it. Since the Tiles use Bluetooth rather than GPS, they never run out of battery or need to be charged, and they last for one year before needing to be replaced. The app, which will come into the market this winter, works with iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPad Mini, iPad 3rd and 4th generation, and iPod 5th generation. For more information, focus on our further report. 29. The Tile app can help you________. A. find your missing items B. use your phone more wisely C. save your phone’s battery power D. connect something to your phone 30. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. The Tile needs to be charged after a year of use. B. One smartphone can only be linked up to one Tile. C. The Tile cannot work when linked up to a phone without Bluetooth. D. A missing item can’t be found if you go out of the needed range. 31. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us? A. What the Tile app is. B. How the Tile app works. C. The advantages of the Tile app. D. Why the Tile app was invented. 32. Where does this passage probably come from? A. A science fiction novel. B. An advertisement. C. A personal diary. D. A news report. D Getting less sleep has become a bad habit for most American kids. According to a new survey by the National Sleep Foundation, 51% of kids aged 10 to 18 go to bed at 10 pm or later onschool nights, even though they have to get up early. Last year the Foundation reported that nearly 60% of 7- to 12-year-olds said that they felt tired during the day, and 15% said they had fallen asleep at school. How much sleep you need depends a lot on your age. Babies need a lot of rest: most of them sleep about 18 hours a day! Adults need about eight hours. For most school-age children, ten hours is ideal(理想的). But the new National Sleep Foundation survey found that 35% of 10- to 12-year-olds get only seven or eight hours. And guess what almost half of the surveyed kids said they do before bedtime? Watch TV. “More children are going to bed with TVs on, and there are more opportunities to stay awake, with more homework, the Internet and the phone,” says Dr. Mary Carskadon, a sleep researcher at Brown University Medical School. She says these activities at bedtime can get kids all excited and make it hard for them to calm down and sleep. Other experts say part of the problem is chemical. Changing levels of body chemicals called hormones not only make teenagers’ bodies develop adult characteristics, but also make it hard for teenagers to fall asleep before 11 pm. Because sleepiness is such a problem for teenagers, some school districts have decided to start high school classes later than they used to. Three years ago, schools in Edina, Minnesota, changed the start time from 7:25 am to 8:30 am. Students, parents and teachers are pleased with the results. 33. What is the new National Sleep Foundation survey on? A. American kids’ sleeping habits. B. Teenagers’ sleep-related diseases. C. Activities to prevent sleeplessness. D. Learning problems and lack of sleep. 34. How many hours of sleep do 11-year-olds need every day? A. 7 hours. B. 8 hours. C. 10 hours. D. 18 hours. 35. Why do teenagers go to sleep late according to Carskadon? A. They are affected by certain body chemicals. B. They tend to do things that excite them. C. They follow their parents’ examples. D. They don’t need to go to school early. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Nowadays,e-dictionaries are more and more popular among students. They may be lighter and compacter (简洁的) than any paper dictionary.__36__ However,e-dictionaries should be limited in their use in classrooms, for there are many limits. __37__ In Japan, prices range from 10,000 yen ($100) to 40,000 yen, depending on how many functions you want and depending on how fashionable you are.A trusty Random House paper dictionary costs $12.95 plus tax.
