They choose ‎ books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website BookCrossing.com turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.‎ Members go on the site and register the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.‎ Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, “The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines both.”‎ Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.‎ People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossers to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce Pederson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home.‎ BookCrossing is part of a trend among people who want to get back to the “real” and not the virtual(虚拟). The site now has more than one million members in more than one hundred thirty-five countries.‎ ‎21. Why does the author mention book groups in the first paragraph?‎ A. To explain what they are.‎ B. To introduce BookCrossing.‎ C. To stress the importance of reading.‎ D. To encourage readers to share their ideas.‎ ‎22. What will a BookCrosser do with a book after reading it?‎ A. Meet other readers to discuss it. B. Keep it safe in his bookcase.‎ C. Pass it on to another reader. D. Mail it back to its owner.‎ ‎23. What is the best title for the text?‎ A. Online Reading: A Virtual Tour B. Electronic Books: A new Trend C. A Book Group Brings Tradition Back D. A Website Links People through Books B What exactly is intelligence? There aren’t any easy answers. Despite the progress that has been ‎ made in genetics and psychology, human intelligence has remained one of the most controversial areas of modern science, until now, that is, for the discovery of a gene(基因) linked to intelligence has made the experts think again.‎ Robert Plomin of the Institute of Psychiatry in London and his colleagues in the US have been looking into genetic make-up. From their research, they have discovered that a slightly different gene is more common in those with a high IQ. Plomin analyzed DNA from two groups of 51 children aged between 6 and 15. What he found was that the first group had an IQ of 136, putting them in the top 5% of the population, while the other group had an average IQ of 103. An analysis of their genes showed that 32% of children in the higher group had the gene in question, while only 16% in the second group did. However, there is a lot more research to be done, and Plomin himself is cautious at this early stage. He suggests that there are probably many genes that contribute to intelligence, rather than just one.‎ Several studies have shown a strong link between IQ and career success, although some psychologists remain unconvinced about this. Professor Michael Rowe, who has written a book called Genius Explained, is one of these. “The people with the highest IQs are not usually the ones who do best in their careers.”‎ Many psychologists now believe that when it comes to intelligence, IQ isn’t everything. Many alternative views have been put forward recently. One example is the idea of multiple intelligences, which was developed in the 1980s by Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner. This offers a much broader view than the IQ theory, including creativity and communication skills as relevant factors(因素) in intelligence.‎ Tony Buzan, brain expert and author of Master your Memory, is enthusiastic about this belief, arguing that true geniuses(天才) do indeed appear to combine high levels of each type of intelligence. He lists Alexander the Great, Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein as examples. At the same time, Buzan believes that everyone can develop their intelligence, only if they take the trouble to exercise their brain. Perhaps there’s hope for us all!‎ ‎24. What is the topic of the passage?‎ A. The relationship between genes and intelligence.‎ B. IQ benefits a lot from high intelligence.‎ C. How to develop intelligence.‎ D. What makes intelligence.‎ ‎25. What can we learn from the passage?‎ A. Robert Plomin confirms genes have something in common.‎ B. Howard Gardner thinks intelligence includes various factors.‎ C. Michael Rowe approves of a strong link between IQ and career.‎ D. Tony Buzan agrees geniuses exercise brain to improve intelligence.‎ ‎26. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 4 refer to?‎ A. The development of intelligence.‎ B. The idea of multiple intelligences.‎ C. IQ isn’t everything for intelligence.‎ D. Alternative views have been put forward.‎ C Most dog owners have probably been puzzled waiting for their dog to do its business. Instead of just finding a soft area of grass to go number two, they make a whole ritual(仪式) out of it, spinning in a circle before finally squatting(蹲下). Luckily, the ultimate pet owners’ question may finally have been answered.‎ A few theories have circulated about why dogs might circle before pooping and most are similar to the reasons they spin before lying down. Trampling around in a circle would flatten the grass around, which would keep tall blades(叶片) from trapping their waste. Another explanation could be that they’re scanning for snakes and predators before they become completely occupied.‎ But Czech researcher Hynek Burda didn’t quite buy into those theories. Dogs evolved from wolves, which didn’t need to worry much about tall grass. And if they were scanning their environment, keeping still to listen and sniff would be more effective than giving the area a quick once-over. Instead, Burda suggested that dogs spin to get a feel for the Earth’s magnetic pull.‎ The Earth has a magnetic field around it protecting it from radiation from space, and some animals seem to use it to get a sense of where its North and South poles are. For instance, it’s how birds know which way to migrate. In 2013, Burda published a study in the journal Frontiers in Zoology suggesting dogs have a strong internal compass, too. He and his team spent two years watching 70 dogs poop and pee and recording which way they faced and how strong the magnetic(磁的) field was.‎ As it turns out, when the magnetic field was calm, dogs preferred to poop facing either north or south.‎ The pattern couldn’t explain why dogs like facing the Earth’s poles, but the researchers think it might help them remember where they marked their territory.‎ If they can remember which way they were facing, they might find it easier to find that spot again. So before you roll your eyes when your dog takes ages to do his business, remember that Fido might just be getting scientific about his potty spot.‎ ‎27. What is the ritual for dogs when they do their business?‎ A. They poop twice daily.‎ B. They circle before pooping.‎ C. They usually make their owner impatient.‎ D. They just find a soft area to poop.‎ ‎28. According to Burda, dogs ________.‎ A. look for snakes and predators before pooping B. spin to flatten the grass C. sniff around to scan the environment D. circle to face a certain direction ‎29. The writer cites “birds” in order to show ________.‎ A. how magic they are B. dogs also can migrate C. dogs have inner compass D. the differences between birds and dogs ‎30. It might be concluded that dogs ________.‎ A. have good reasons to take ages to do his business B. are more scientific than human beings C. are sensitive to radiation from space D. often play tricks with their owners 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎___31___ While these compulsive(无法控制的) actions may appear to be irrational or pointless, and may even result in negative consequences, the individual experiencing the compulsion feels unable to stop him or herself.‎ The compulsive behavior can be a physical act, like hand washing, or a mental activity, like counting objects. When an otherwise harmless behavior becomes so consuming that it negatively impacts oneself or others, it may be a symptom of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)(强迫症).‎ ‎___32___The former is an overwhelming desire to do something, while an addiction is a physical or chemical dependence on a substance or behavior. People with addictions will continue their addictive behavior, even when they understand that doing so is harmful to themselves and others. ___33___‎ Unlike compulsions and addictions, which are acted out uncontrollably, habits are actions that are repeated regularly and automatically.‎ Habits typically develop over time through a natural process called “habituation,” during which repetitive actions that must be consciously initiated eventually become subconscious and are carried out habitually.‎ While there are good habits and bad, unhealthy habits, any habit can become a compulsion or even an addiction. ___34___ For example, the good habit of exercising regularly can become an unhealthy compulsion or addiction when done to excess.‎ Common habits often develop into addictions when they result in a chemical dependency, as in the cases of smoking. The habit of having a glass of beer with dinner, for example, becomes an addiction when the desire to drink turns into a physical or emotional need to drink.‎ ‎___35___While we can choose to add good, healthy habits to our routines, we can also choose to break old harmful habits.‎ A. A compulsion is different from an addiction.‎ B. It currently affects about ‎1 in 40 adults and ‎1 in 100 children in the U.S.‎ C. Some of these behaviors are visible actions while others are mental behaviors.‎ D. In other words, you really can have “too much of a good thing.”‎ E. Compulsive behaviors are actions that a person feels “compelled” or driven to do over and over again.‎ F. Alcoholism, smoking, and gambling are perhaps the most common examples of addictions.‎ G. Of course, the key difference between a compulsive behavior and a habit is the ability to choose to do them or not.‎ 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空 (共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。‎ I had reached the age of twenty-eight. LeBron James, the famous American basketball star, for instance, earns an income of more than 20 million dollars a year. Some people hold the view that these stars do not deserve the high pay that they are getting. Some even argue that sports stars do nothing to society apart from entertaining people. Their contribution to society are much less than those made by doctors, firemen, scientists, professors, etc. But I can never agree with that.‎ While sports are for entertainment, it does not mean that they are not important to people’s life. Why do so many people go to see football matches and NBA games? It is because they enjoy the games, and they are willing to pay to watch the performances. Because of the sports stars, our life becomes more exciting. Some sports stars gain honor for their country, and their countrymen are proud of them. They contribute to the spiritual well-being of their people.‎ What’s more, sports stars usually are at the top of level in their fields. In this world, you have to ‎ pay if you want the best. It is the same with sports. Skills in sports are like the skills in works of art. People will not say that Da Vinci’s painting Mona Lisa was bought for too much money. Most stars are skilled in their own field not only because of their talents but also because of their hard training. They have to keep performing at their peak to earn that good income.‎ ‎ Their influence on the national economy can not be overlooked. Take NBA in America for example, the stars help to support not only the basketball industry, but also other rs related industries like sportswear and sport equipment. Sports stars also make constant appearance in advertisements. Since they are well known in the world, they attract many people’s attention, which often leads to an immediate boom in the sales of the products that are advertised by them.‎ ‎ I hope one day their accomplishments will be fully recognized.‎ ‎___________________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎ ‎ 参考答案 ‎1-5 CABCB 6-10 CCBAA 11-15 BCCBA 16-20 BCBAA ‎21-23 BCD 24-26 DBB 27-30 BDCA 31-35 EAFDG ‎36-40 CBCBA 41-45 DADCD 46-50 CDAAB 51-55 CBBAD ‎56.But 57. the 58.to take 59.accumulated 60. actually ‎61.reducing 62. that 63. vehicles 64. will cut 65.to ‎66.Participants  67. receptions 68. appreciation 69. illegally 70.intention ‎71.permission 72.dating 73Being injured 74. was 75.had been told ‎ 第一节:应用文 ‎ Dear Smith,‎ I am Li Hua, a regular customer of Amazon. I’m sorry to trouble you, but I have to make a complaint about the school bag I purchased last week.‎ When receiving the school bag, I was disappointed to find the color was quite different from what was shown in the advertisement. What also annoyed me was that there were several black spots on the bag, which couldn’t be wiped away. For the reasons above, I strongly demand either the school bag be exchanged or I be compensated with full refund.‎ Looking forward to your prompt reply.‎ Yours sincerely, ‎ Li Hua 概要写作 Different from some people’s views, the writer believes sports stars’ pay is not too high but reasonable. First, sports stars’ performance bring people excitement and spiritual well-being. Besides, they are the best in their fields thanks to their talents and hard training. Lastly, sports stars like these in NBA contribute to the national economy by benefiting basketball industry, other industries as well as advertising industry.‎ 听力材料 ‎(Text 1) ‎ W: Hi. However, those butterflies right at the top of the building were amazing. ‎ W: Yes, they were beautiful. Did you manage to see any tree frogs? They were so cute.‎ M: I spent ages hunting for them, but I couldn’t find a single one.‎ W: That was a pity!
