What will Games volunteers be provided with for free?‎ A. Accommodation B. Amusements C. Transportation D. Clothing B Germans have a word “wanderlust”, which translated into English would be “the desire to wander”. Nowadays the chance to travel is endless. Thanks to cheap air tickets, travelling abroad is very easy and sometimes it’s even cheaper to fly out of the country than to travel within your own. So, yes, travelling is cheap but there have to be other reasons to travel and you’ve right, there are plenty!‎ I have always had this feeling of wanderlust. It started from me wanting to explore my local woods at the back of my garden as a young girl and as I have grown, so has my sense of adventure. And I found my local woods being replaced with the Brazil wetland, Pant anal, where I went last summer in search of jaguars, snakes and crocodiles. The thing with travelling is it’s always different. Even if you went to the same country, to the same town and stayed in the exact same hotel, it would be a completely different experience. The people you meet will be different, and they will tell you their own travelling stories: stories of holiday romance, holiday worries and stories that seem so outrageous that you can hardly believe them until something similar happens to you.‎ Or maybe the difference is you? Maybe you have changed since last time you were there? And that’s the thing with travelling --- it changes you. When you travel, you are forced to experience a new culture. Whether it’s eating guinea pig, or staying with a family where neither of you speak a common language and you have to communicate through hand actions and smiles, the experience gives me itchy feet to do it all again. And although “wanderlust” is a German word, the English idiom “to have itchy feet” has a similar idea. Someone who has itchy feet needs to leave or travel. This desire to explore is found not only in language but in us.‎ ‎24. According to Paragraph 2, what is the most important part of travelling? A. You are able to take more adventures.‎ B. You can hear many travelling stories. C. You can have different experiences.‎ D. You will experience holiday romance.‎ ‎25. How many reasons for travelling are mentioned in the passage? .‎ A. One B. Two C. Three D. Four ‎26. The underlined word “outrageous” in Paragraph 2 probably means .‎ A. surprising B. moving C. interesting D. upsetting ‎27. The writer wrote the passage in order to .‎ A. encourage people to travel abroad B. explain the German word “wanderlust” C. share the writer’s travelling experiences D. give various reasons for travelling C Fans of the movie Finding Nemo may remember the terrifying fish that scares Dory and Marlin at the bottom of a trench.‎ But in reality this "monster", a black sea devil, is only about 9 cm long, which would make it about a third of the size of Dory and potentially smaller than Marlin or Nemo.‎ While this inaccuracy may seem harmless, it could cause problems for future conservation efforts, as people are more likely to support conservation of adorable rather than scary-looking animals.‎ The black sea devil is just one of the mysterious “monsters”. From 2000 to 2010, scientists described about 1,200 new species in the Census of Marine Life. While this figure may seem amazing, a further 5,000 individual dead creatures are in specimen ( 标 本 ) jars, waiting to be described.‎ Specimens must be methodically collected, identified, and then the identity of new deep-water species must be confirmed. If we call unusual deep-sea animals monsters, then we may harm their conservation as people are unlikely to be connected with them or care about saving them.‎ On the other hand, their rarity clearly makes them popular on social media sites. For other species, this has already resulted in increases in illegal trading for unusual pets. Deep-sea species may potentially become illegally obtained specimens or food. Humans may end up eating these animals of the deep sea to extinction before their species are even known to science.‎ Every habitat on earth is interconnected, and whatever we as humans do has an influence on marine ecosystems. In reality, about 80% of our oxygen is produced by microorganisms(微生物) in the oceans. This makes our oceans both the lungs and lifeblood of our planet and we must all try harder to save them.‎ ‎28. What can we know about the black sea devil in reality?‎ A. Its scary appearance caused problems for conservation. B. People benefit greatly from the oxygen produced by it. C. Its body size is a big threat to fish like Dory and Nemo. D. People knew little about it when filming Finding Nemo.‎ ‎29. What does the author think of the progress of describing new species?‎ A. Surprising. B. Hopeless.‎ C. Unsatisfying. D. Acceptable.‎ ‎30. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 7 probably refer to?‎ A. Their importance being ignored. B. Their rarity among sea creatures. C. Their conservation being harmed.‎ D. Their popularity on social media sites.‎ ‎31. What can we infer about those unusual sea animals?‎ A. Confirming their identity is very urgent for protection.‎ B. Most of them are becoming illegally obtained specimens.‎ C. Adorable ones are more likely to be posted on social media sites. D. They are the lungs and lifeblood of our planet.‎ D When a laptop or smartphone battery starts losing its power, the only options are to buy an expensive replacement, or just keep it plugged in all the time. But a woman Mya Le Thai may have found the answer to this problem.‎ Thai was frustrated that the batteries for her wireless devices degraded (降级) over time, until they failed to charge fully. She did not like having to keep her laptop connected to an electrical outlet to keep it powered on. So she decided to do something about that problem. At first, she and her team at UC Irvine thought about inventing a new battery. But as they experimented, Thai discovered something that might permit lithium-ion (锂离子) batteries to last forever.‎ Lithium-ion batteries power most wireless devices. Over time, the batteries lose the ability to hold a charge. Most of these batteries have a life span of about 7,000 charging cycles before they die. One of the reasons lithium-ion batteries degrade is their use of nanowires (纳米线) to carry electricity. Nanowires are extremely thin. A human hair is thousands of times thicker, for example. Nanowires are extremely efficient carriers of electricity, which makes them useful in batteries.‎ But Thai had a theory: the nanowires might last longer if covered with a gel (凝胶). She and her team tested this theory. “It was a long process and a lot of work,” Thai said. The team tried many coverings for the wires. PMMA, a type of plastic, was one of them. The nanowires were coated with PMMA and cycled through charges 200,000 times. The PMMA-coated nanowires showed no evidence of damage. The results suggest that batteries could last forever, without losing charging ability.‎ Thai hopes to continue her research to understand why this gel works so well and to see if any other gel could create better results, and she is enjoying the publicity about her discovery. She said she never expected her research to get media coverage. “It’s kind of cool,” she said. “I’m really glad people are showing interest in my work and not just in the work itself, but also in technology and energy.”‎ ‎32. Why did Mya Le Thai work on lithium-ion batteries?‎ A. She disliked the batteries for her laptop.‎ B. Her team was assigned to invent a new battery.‎ C. Many people thought batteries were too expensive.‎ D. The batteries gradually lost the function to charge fully.‎ ‎33. What can we infer about nanowires?‎ A. They are too weak to carry electricity.‎ B. Their thinness is a cause of battery degrading. C. They last only 7,000 charging cycles.‎ D. They are not suitable for use in batteries.‎ ‎34. What might be Thai and her team’s breakthrough?‎ A. A new way of charging batteries. B. A new kind of battery.‎ C. Coating nanowires in gel. D. New materials for batteries.‎ ‎35. What may be the best title for the passage?‎ A. The options of batteries for wireless devices B. The problem of batteries degrading C. Mya Le Thai discovered Nanowires D. A woman invents a life-long battery.‎ 第二节:七选五(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。‎ Four Rules for Successful Plant Cloning Plant growers have two choices when it comes to starting new plants: growing from seed, or plant cloning. 36. Growing from clones you’re sure to have all females, and as long as you do the cloning yourself, you know who the mother plant is and how your clones will grow, yield, and get you high. But it’s an art and science to plant cloning.‎ Take your plant cuttings from a healthy motherplant. Plant cloning gives you genetic copies of your motherplant. If your motherplants are strong, healthy, and have potent genetics, your clones get the best start possibly. 37.‎ ‎38. Most plant clones prefer temperatures slightly higher than your ideal grow room temperature, and they don’t like a day and night cycle with a temperature drop at night. That’s why most growers root their cuttings under lighting that stays on 24 hours a day. The lighting itself creates temperature stabilization. Temperatures between 74-77 degrees F are the range you want.‎ Clones like high humidity ( 湿度). Your cuttings need a humid environment in the 75-95% humidity range until they’ve created roots and are able to intake water through them. That’s why many plant cloners use humidity covers until the clones have functioning roots. 39.‎ Use sterile ( 无 菌 的 ) equipment and materials. You already figured out that your scissors, knife, or other tools for cutting clones has to be clean. But you also want to make sure you trays (托盘), cloning covers, and root zone media are clean and sterile too. 40. Start fresh every time.‎ When you follow these plant cloning tips, your clone success rate should be nearly 100%. A. Use kind LED lighting B. If they’re in dry air, they’ll die. C. All the things should be sterile.‎ D. Give your plant clones consistent climate.‎ E. Don’t reuse cloning tubes or cloning powders (粉末) and gels.‎ F. Avoid using motherplants that are sick, or that are plagued (折磨) with pests. G. And plant clones offer advantages that growing plants from seed can’t offer. ‎ Surrell had just parked the car, when he got a call from one of his daughters: “The house next door is on fire!” He went to 41 and saw two women on their porch (门廊), crying “The baby’s in there!”. 42 the fire department had been called, Surrell, then 64, instinctively 43.
