If you know which careers are showing stable growth potential, you will choose a right job in your future. Nursing is a field which will grow extremely fast over the next several years. At present there are about 2.5 million nurses working in the field and a half million more are expected to be added soon. Nursing salaries average about $66,000 per year, but they can go up to over $140,000 with higher education and specialized field training. Nursing also provides the benefit of flexible time, allowing you to choose when you want to work. Engineering is one of the hottest and most stably growing careers in the country. There is plenty of opportunity for advancement and income growth in this field. Starting salaries for engineers is higher than most other jobs because a college degree is required. There are also many different fields of specialization to choose from as an engineer. Average salaries are around $72,000, but can quickly be more than $120,000 with experience and position. Online marketing is a field that is fairly new to the career market and there is exciting growth potential. It offers a lot of flexibility with many different specialized areas. The average salary for online marketers is $53,000 per year, but some who work in specialized areas make over $200,000. Although the job as a financial advisor is an extremely competitive career field, the impressive growth for this field leaves plenty of room for new job seekers. The salary potential for this career increases with experience and education level but on average financial advisors make $67,000 a year. 21. The similarity of the four careers is that all of them ____________. A. especially emphasize work experience B.have stable growth potential C. will encourage people to change jobs D. provide flexible working hours 22. In most of the four career fields, the workers' salary is partly based on ____________. A. their relationship with the boss B. their attitude toward work C. their work experience D. their education level 23. The text is probably from ____________. A. an advertisement B. a book review C. a travel guide D. a job guide B Breathe, wave and smile. Along with more than 300 other seniors, I marched into the stadium on the afternoon of May 10. The audience burst into deafening cheers. The huge stadium shook with all the whistling and clapping. It was as if a Hollywood superstar had walked on stage. And indeed, every single senior that day was a star of the moment. Each deserved it. The seniors had been preparing for four years for this once-in-a-lifetime moment ——the graduation ceremony. Seated, I waited anxiously for the opening address. As a foreign exchange student, I was not able to receive a diploma. However, I still had the superb feeling of being part of things. Like the other graduates, I was dressed in maroon (紫褐色) cap and gown. Our principal, Mr Glover, delivered a short, warm greeting. The US national anthem followed and then, hands on chests, a solemn Pledge of Allegiance (庄严的效忠誓言) Students who had done well academically gave farewell speeches. The tears in some eyes convinced me that many had deep feelings about the occasion. It was as the class motto says, "Life brings us tears, smiles and memories. The tears dry; the smiles fade; but the memories last forever." Then came the most important part of the ceremony. Hundreds of names were announced. Each graduate walked across the stage to receive his or her diploma from the principal. From the different cheers each graduate got, we had the amused sense that it was a kind of competition of who could cheer the loudest. To be honest, the presentation of diplomas got boring. A girl sitting next to me even started yawning. But it wasn't boring for those receiving the diploma: they would treasure the moment the principal placed the sacred (神圣的) brown document in their hands for the rest of their lives. A new page in the book of that person's life had turned. They were heading for their futures: Futures of challenge, hardship, perhaps loneliness too, which would take all of their courage. 24. What is the text mainly about? A. The opening ceremony of a sports meeting. B. An American grad uation ceremony. C. A presentation of college diplomas. D. A US college's farewell party. 25. We know from the text that the author ____________. A. felt lost about the future B. received the diploma on May 10 C. was actually a student from a foreign school D. felt honored to be at the presentation ceremony 26. The right order of the following events is ____________. a. Diplomas were presented to graduates. b. Students gave farewell speeches. c. The US national anthem was played. d. The principal gave an opening speech. e. Seniors went into the stadium. A. e→d→c→b→a B. e→d→b→c→a C. d→b→e→a→c D. d→c→a→b→e 27. From the text, we can infer that ____________. A. a diploma guaranteed the student a bright future B. foreign exchange students could also receive diplomas C. students felt nervous at the presentation of the diploma D. students will live a completely different life after the ceremony C "People are ruder today because they are rushed and more 'time poor' than ever before," says Patsy Rowe, "Manners have fallen off the radar (雷达)." Due to our strong attraction to electronic equipment it is a wonder more people don't wake up each morning and greet the singing birds with a complaint (抱怨) about the noise. Here are some examples of rudeness. Some people are accustomed to doing almost everything over the Internet. To them, dealing with an actual human is like an evolutionary step backward. It feels very slow because humans don't work at 4G speeds. When you have dinner with friends, you will often notice someone paying more attention to his mobile phone. We have programmed ourselves to think that every new message brings life changing news, so taking calls and checking our texts are more important than talking to the people we are with. What is worse, some people even tend to send anonymous (匿名的) rude messages by email. However, rudeness is never acceptable. Don't assume it is OK to be rude if the person you're in touch with won't recognize you. If you have something awful to say, have the courage to face the person and say it, write a letter or email and sign it, or forget it. Upsetting people with unsigned messages is cruel and disgusting. We shouldn't blame technology for our shortcomings. Technology is here to help us, but we should not allow it to take over our lives. An important step is acknowledging our shortcomings. People spend a lot of time pointing out bad manners but it would be even more helpful if we'd publicly acknowledge good manners when we see them. 28. What can be inferred from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1? A. People care little about their behaviour. B. Radar is able to observe human behaviour. C. People can tell good from bad behaviour. D. Radar can be used to predict human behaviour. 29. Some people are less willing to deal with humans because ____________. A. they think the Internet is more reliable B. they are growing too independent C. they are becoming less patient D. they think other people are getting more sensitive 30. The author thinks sending unsigned awful messages is ____________. A. reasonable B. ridiculous C. acceptable D. disgusting 31. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. We should applaud good behaviour. B. Technology can never be blamed. . C. We should keep pointing out mistakes. D. Technology decides our behaviour patterns. D With only about 1,000 pandas left in the world, China is desperately trying to clone the animal and save the endangered species (物种) That's a move similar to what a Texas A&M University researchers have been undertaking for the past five years in a project called "Noah's Ark". Noah's Ark is aimed at collecting eggs, embryos (胚胎), semen and DNA of endangered animals and storing them in liquid nitrogen (氮). If certain species should become extinct, Dr. Duane Kraemer, a professor in Texas A&M's College of Veterinary Medicine, says there would be enough of the basic building blocks to reintroduce the species in the future. It is estimated that as many as 2,000 species will become extinct in 100 years. The panda, native only to China, is in danger of dying out in the next 25 years. This week, Chinese scientists said they grew an embryo by introducing cells from a dead female panda into the egg cells of a Japanese white rabbit. They are now trying to implant the embryo into a host animal (受体动物). The entire procedure could take from three to five years to complete. "The nuclear transfer of one species to another is not easy, and the lack of available panda eggs could be a major problem," Kraemer believes. "They will probably have to do several hundred transfers to result in one pregnancy. It takes a long time and it's difficult, but this could be groundbreaking science if it works. They are certainly not putting any live pandas at risk, so it is worth the effort," adds Kraemer, who is one of the leaders of the Project at Texas A&M, the first-ever attempt at cloning a dog. "They are trying to do something that's never been done, and this is very similar to our work in Noah's Ark. We're both trying to save animals that face extinction. I certainly appreciate their effort and there's a lot we can learn from what they are attempting to do. It's a research that is very much needed." 32. The aim of "Noah's Ark" project is to ____________. A. implant an embryo into a host animal B. collect and research into DNA of endangered animals C. save endangered animals from dying out D. clone the endangered pandas 33. According to Professor Kraemer, the major problem in cloning pandas would be the lack of _________. A. available panda eggs B. host animals C. qualified researchers D. enough money 34. The underlined word "groundbreaking" (Paragraph 6) probably means ____________. A. unexpected B. unsatisfying C. experienced D. pioneering 35. What can be the best title for the text? A. China - the Native Place of Pandas Forever B. China's Success in Panda Cloning C. The First Cloned Panda in the World D. Exploring the Possibility of Cloning Pandas 第一节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A major source of teen stress is school exams, and test anxiety is not uncommon. When you recognize your teen is under stress, how can parents help your teen stay calm before an exam? Be involved. Parents need to be involved in their teen's work. 36 What they look for is your presence-to talk, to cry, or simply to sit with them quietly. Communicate openly with your teen. Encourage your teen to express his worries and fears, but don't let them focus on those fears. Provide a calm setting. Help your teen set up a quiet place to study and protect his privacy. Give them a nutritious diet. It is important for your teen to eat a healthy, balanced diet during exam times to focus and do her best. 37 If this happens, encourage your teen to eat light meals or sandwiches. A healthy diet, rather than junk food, is best for reducing stress. 38 Persuade your teenager to get some sleep and/or do something active when she needs a real break from studying. Making time for relaxation, fun, and exercise are all important in reducing stress. Help your teen balance her time so that she will feel comfortable taking time out from studying to spend time with friends or rest. Help them get organized. 39 Together, you and your teen can work out a time-table in which she can study for what she knows will be on the test. All of us felt happy when you came to our class. But I feel sorry to see that you are unhappy all day long. I guess the main reason for your unhappiness is that you haven' t fitted in with our classmates. As a matter of fact, all our classmates are easy-going and friendly. Why not join us in some activities, such as basketball games and discussions? Shutting the door and keeping everybody else out is not a good idea. Come on, Jack! Be active and you can be part of the big family. Yours, Li Hua查看更多
