A In her outstanding book, “Choose the Happiness Habit”, Pam Golden wrote, “Take the story of two twin brothers for example. One grew up and became an alcoholic, while the other became a successful businessman. When asked why he became an alcoholic, the alcoholic replied, “Because my father was a drunk.” However, the successful businessman’s answer was also “Because my father was a drunk.” when asked why he succeeded. The same background. The same upbringing. However, the results were quite different. Why? The reason is that they had different choices. The brothers chose different thoughts which formed the situations they found themselves in at last, so they had different experiences. There was a time in my life when I thought difficulty was due to “bad luck”. Have you ever heard the saying “When it rains, it pours”? That was my answer when others asked me how things were going on when I was in trouble. So what do you think I got? “RAIN”. More and more “RAIN”. I couldn’t understand why bad luck was always with me. Pam Golden says, “You’re either living in the problem or you’re living in the solution.” Now, when I’m faced with what I used to think was a negative situation, I use a different way to think about it. I force myself to replace those negative thoughts that make me lose heart in my mind with positive thoughts which encourage me to fight against the difficulty bravely. Sometimes I write down some ideas that may be a solution, which I combine with the lessons I have learned from the bad situations and the difficulties that troubled me in the past, and often, I find a solution to the problem soon.It seems that I should thank the difficulty I met with. The RAIN that poured in my world has become great experiences that provide me with valuable experience, from which I can benefit. Now, it doesn’t “rain” as much in my life as it used to. In fact, most days are beautiful, cloudless and sunny! Sometimes I do get a rain, but I think it makes me stronger just like the rain helps plants grow up. 1. The example of the twin brothers shows that ________. A. it is luck that leads to success B. education decides a person’s future C. upbringing makes a big difference D. making good choices is the most important 2. What does “RAIN” mentioned in the second paragraph refer to? A. Water. B. Difficulty. C. Success. D. Good luck. 3. What is talked about in the third paragraph? A. How the author collects useful experience. B. How the author gets help from others. C. How the author deals with difficulty now. D. How the author lives in the problem. 4. Which of the following agrees with the author’s attitude now in the text? A. Meeting with difficulty is not a bad thing. B. All things are difficult before they are easy. C. Misfortunes tell us what fortune is. D. Things at the worst will mend. B During the past Spring Festival, many children may have received red packets from their families. But Xing Pu, a 40-year-old economist,is asking the government to give red packets to every Chinese citizen. Xing suggested the government give out 1,000 yuan to each Chinese since the government income has increased rapidly in recent years. He said his suggestion would allow everyone to directly enjoy the fruits of the country's economic success, help the lower-income groups deal with rising prices and increase consumption(消费)around the country. Recent years have seen the government carry out a series of pro-poor (扶贫) and pro-rural(惠农)policies,including increasing spending on public health care and calling off the agricultural tax. But the lower-income group still needs more help while being hit hard by an 11-year high in prices and recent snowstorms. Xing said while making the draft,he has borrowed many ideas from practices in countries like the United States and Singapore. Earlier this year, the governments of the two nations offered cash handouts(救济)to their citizens as the result of a surplus in government income. As for in China,“We can even encourage the rich to donate their 1,000 yuan red packet to the poor,” said Xing. Although Xing's suggestion has gained wide support among ordinary Chinese on the Internet, many other economists criticized it as unpractical. Even Xing himself admitted he made the suggestion without any careful calculation. But they agreed with Xing's point that the growing economic pie should be shared among the people. “To better use the increase of money, handing out money is not a solution that holds good for all time. It could be better to improve the public service or cut the price of energy use in daily life,” said Qiao Xinsheng,an economic professor. 5.What has the government done to help the lower-income group? A.Spending less on public health care. B.Carrying out pro-poor policies. C.Handing out money to every Chinese. D.Increasing the agricultural tax. 6. According to some experts, what is better than giving out money? A.Supplying food to everyone every day. B.Increasing the government income. C.Controlling the rising of prices. D.Cutting the price of energy use in daily life. 7. Xing Pu's ideas of giving red packets to every Chinese citizen mainly came from ________. A.the US and Singapore governments offering cash handouts to their citizens B.children receiving red packets from their families 【来源:全,品…中&高*考+网】C.the government's increasing spending on public health care D.the rising prices in the country 【来源:全,品…中&高*考+网】 C Daniel Anderson, a famous psychologist, believes it’s important to distinguish television’s influences on children from those of the family. We tend to blame TV, he says, for problems it doesn’t really cause, overlooking our own roles in shaping children’s minds. One traditional belief about television is that it reduces a child’s ability to think and to understand the world. While watching TV, children do not merely absorb words and images (影像). Instead, they learn both explicit and hidden meanings from what they see. Actually, children learn early the psychology of characters in TV shows. Furthermore, as many teachers agree, children understand far more when parents watch TV with them, explaining new words and ideas. Yet, most parents use an educational program as a chance to park their kids in front of the set and do something in another room. Another argument against television is that it replaces reading as a form of entertainment. But according to Anderson, the amount of time spent watching television is not related to reading ability. TV doesn’t take the place of reading for most children; it takes the place of similar sorts of recreation, such as listening to the radio and playing sports. Things like parents’ educational background have a stronger influence on a child’s reading. “A child’s reading ability is best predicted by how much a parent reads.” Anderson says. Traditional wisdom also has it that heavy television-watching lowers IQ (智商) scores and affects school performance. But here, too, Anderson notes that no studies have proved it. In fact, research suggests that it’s the other way around. “If you’re smart young, you’ll watch less TV when you’re older,” Anderson says. Yet, people of lower IQ tend to be lifelong television viewers. For years researchers have attempted to show that television is dangerous to children. However, by showing that television promotes none of the dangerous effects as conventionally believed, Anderson suggests that television cannot be condemned without considering other influences. 8. By watching TV, children learn _________. A. images through words B. more than explicit meanings C. more about images than words D. little about people’s psychology 9. Which of the following is most related to children’s reading ability? A. Radio-listening B. Television-watching C. Parents’ reading list D. Parents’ educational background 10. Anderson believed that _________. A. the more a child watches TV, the smarter he is B. the younger a child is, the more he watches TV C. the smarter a child is, the less likely he gets addicted to TV D. the less a child watches TV, the better he performs at school 11. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To advise on the educational use of TV. B. To describe TV’s harmful effects on children. C. To explain traditional views on TV influences. D. To present Anderson’s unconventional ideas. D Once when I was facing a decision that involved high risk, I went to a friend. He looked at me for a moment, and then wrote a sentence containing the best advice I’ve ever had: Be bold and brave — and mighty (强大的) forces will come to your aid. Those words made me see clearly that when I had fallen short in the past, it was seldom because I had tried and failed. It was usually because I had let fear of failure stop me from trying at all. On the other hand, whenever I had plunged into deep water, forced by courage or circumstance, I had always been able to swim until I got my feet on the ground again. Boldness means a decision to bite off more than you can eat. And there is nothing mysterious about the mighty forces. They are potential powers we possess: energy, skill, sound judgment, creative ideas — even physical strength greater than most of us realize. Admittedly, those mighty forces are spiritual ones. But they are more important than physical ones. A college classmate of mine, Tim, was an excellent football player, even though he weighed much less than the average player. “In one game I suddenly found myself confronting a huge player, who had nothing but me between him and our goal line,” said Tim. “I was so frightened that I closed my eyes and desperately threw myself at that guy like a bullet — and stopped him cold.” Boldness — a willingness to extend yourself to the extreme—is not one that can be acquired overnight. But it can be taught to children and developed in adults. Confidence builds up. Surely, there will be setbacks (挫折) and disappointments in life; boldness in itself is no guarantee of success. But the person who tries to do something and fails is a lot better off than the person who tries to do nothing and succeeds. So, always try to live a little bit beyond your abilities—and you’ll find your abilities are greater than you ever dreamed. 12. Why was the author sometimes unable to reach his goal in the past? A. He faced huge risks. B. He lacked mighty forces. C. Fear prevented him from trying. D. Failure blocked his way to success. 13. What is the implied meaning of the underlined part? A. Swallow more than you can digest. B. Act slightly above your abilities. C. Develop more mysterious powers. D. Learn to make creative decisions. 14. What was especially important for Tim’s successful defense in the football game? A. His physical strength. B. His basic skill. C. His real fear. D. His spiritual force. 15. What can be learned from Paragraph 5? A. Confidence grows more rapidly in adults. B. Trying without success is meaningless. C. Repeated failure creates a better life. D. Boldness can be gained little by little. 第二节 七选五 【来源:全,品…中&高*考+网】Recycling: Beyond the Dustbin Recycling is very important and necessary in today’s world. Below, we share some research-backed tips to help you carry out successful goals. Choose a goal that matters, not just easy to win. A meaningful goal— 41 that truly inspires you to change—requires going deeper. Think about what you want in the coming year, then ask yourself 42 you want that. For example, if you want to quit 43 (smoke), ask why do you want to quit? Then, if you want to quit for your health ask why do you want good health? Then, if your answer is to be alive long enough 44 (meet) your grandchildren, ask why do you want to meet your grandchildren? Set up your goals positively. How you describe your goal makes 45 big difference. Focusing on 46 you want to “bring into your life—not what you want to avoid—will make you more likely to 47 (actual) pursue it.” Prepare for failure(in a good way). Moments of failure are_____48________(avoid), but most of us abandon the goal entirely when slight failures and setbacks start piling up. At the moment when you fail, often the first instinct(本能) is to push the goal away. It's so 49 (comfort) to be in that condition of self-doubt or self-criticism and guilt. Your task is not to avoid failures, 50 to plan for them. Ask yourself, how am I likely to fail? For example, if you're likely to choose unhealthy meals when you're hungry, carry a light snack with you. In recently years, the sandstorm has occurred a lot of times, doing great harm to our daily life.
