B When I moved to Senegal in 2007 to work for a charity organization, the first thing I did was to hit the streets. Dakar, the capital, leans out into warm Atlantic wind. It has a relaxing atmosphere that makes it a favorite destination. Not far from the city center, it also has one of Africa’s biggest slums(贫民区)and its share of beggars. Street kids would tail me, begging. During a previous trip to Senegal, I was once cheated by a man. I'd wondered for years whether to give money to beggars in West Africa. Near my apartment, I passed a group of young men in wheelchairs whom I took to be beggars. Head down, I walked by them quickly. As the months went by, I'd often come across them. I’d often see them at an outdoor basketball court near my office. They’d sit on the ground with their chairs upside down, tightening and adjusting wheels, waiting until the other guys left so they could play. I'd stay and watch them warm up. They played with speed, rolling down the court as fast as I could run. A few weeks later I introduced myself to them with the help of Mafall, who was one of the guys and could speak a little French. I started spending more time with them and eventually became something like an assistant coach. The players quickly grew on me. I started referring to them as “my guys” to my colleagues. It was the most fun I’d had since I got to Dakar. Life on the street had made my players strong and they didn’t back down easily. I was proud of them. Toward the end of the season, Mafall invited me to where he lived—found many of the players there, with their wives and children. I learned that most of them were born with disabilities. As Mafall and I chatted, I knew something had changed. They were no longer beggars. They were basketball players, my guys, and my friends. 24.It can be inferred from the text that the disabled young men_________. A.used to beg in the streets B.often helped the local charity. C.were not friendly toward foreigners D.played basketball as well as normal guys. 25.Why did the writer walk by the young men with head down? A.To be afraid of being recognized by them. B.To prevent himself from being stolen. C.To be afraid of being cheated by them. D.To be careful enough to find his way home. 26.Why did the author call the disabled young men “my guys” ? A.They often played tricks on the author. B.They were loved by the author. C.They used to cheat others when begging. D.They always quarreled while training. 27.What is the whole text mainly about? A.The author refused to be cheated by beggars in Dakar. B.The author helped the locals in Senegal out of poverty. C.The author coached the young men in Senegal to play basketbal1. D.The author helped to change some disabled young men in Dakar. C New rules from the China National Tourism Administration prohibit guides from steering their clients to illegal or immoral activities, such as gambling or drugs. Guides are also prohibited from forcing clients to shop at businesses during a tour, or to charge extra money against a client’s wishes, through intimidation, restricting a person’s freedom or using physical force. Those who violate the rules will have their licenses revoked(吊销), and income generated through such misbehavior will be confiscated. In addition, violators will be fined between 2,000 and 20,000 yuan($300 to $3,000). The administration said the quality of tour guides and the services they provide are key to the way the industry is perceived in China and abroad. Through the rules, which will take effect on Jan. 1st, the administration hopes to ensure healthy development of the domestic tourism market. Mr. Wang, a professor of tourism administration at Beijing International Studies University, said the new rules act as a supplement to existing tourism law. “They elaborate tour guides’ responsibilities and will be very helpful for the national tourism administration in strengthening its governance of this group of professionals,” Wang said. The 2001 regulations listed some prohibited behaviors, and guides who were found in violation would have points taken away from their annual scores. In 2015 and 2016, many media reports appeared about misbehaving tour guides at popular destinations. Guide services start with 10 points each year. Points are required to maintain a license, so if all 10 are lost, the guide service is shut down. The new rules describe situations beyond what were in the 2001 regulations, and cover circumstances in which a tour guide would be in violation and punishments are laid out in detail, noting that some of the examples reflect situations that have been reported domestically in recent years. Forced shopping, verbal abuse of clients and even abandoning clients half way through a tour were among the misdeeds. Where does the passage probably come from? A. A newspaper . B. A tour guide’s diary. C. The 2001 regulations. D. China National Tourism Administration. What does the underlined word “They” in the fourth paragraph refer to? A. The tourists. B. The new rules. C. The tour guides. D. The 2001 regulations. Which of the following statements about the new rules is true? A. They will replace the 2001 regulations. B. They are replacements of the existing tourism law. C. They cover more detailed description as a supplement. D. They will act as new tourism standards replacing the old ones. From the passage, we can infer that ________. A. there will be more misbehaving tour guides[] B. many travel agencies will go out of business C. more misdeeds will appear at popular destinations D. the domestic tourism market will be more normal D Make Up Your Mind to Succeed Kind-hearted parents have unknowingly left their children defenseless against failure. The generation born between 1980 and 2001 grew up playing sports where scores and performance were played down because “everyone’s winner.” And their report cards sounded more positive (正面的) than ever before. As a result, Stanford University professor Carol Dweck, PhD, calls them “the overpraised generation.” Dweck has been studying how people deal with failure for 40 years. Her research has led her to find out two clearly different mind-sets that have a great effect on how we react to it. Here’s how they work: A fixed mind-set is grounded in the belief that talent (才能) is genetic – you’re a born artist, point guard, or numbers person. The fixed mind-set believes it’s sure to succeed without much effort and regards failure as personal shame. When things get difficult, it’s quick to blame, lie, and even stay away from future difficulties. On the other hand, a growth mind-set believes that no talent is entirely heaven-sent and that effort and learning make everything possible. Because the ego (自尊) isn’t on the line as much, the growth mind-set sees failure as a chance rather than shame. When faced with a difficulty, it’s quick to rethink, change and try again. In fact, it enjoys this experience. We are all born with growth mind-sets. (Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to live in the world.) But parents, teachers, and instructors often push us into fixed mind-sets by encouraging certain actions and misdirecting praise. Dweck’s book, Mind-set: The New Psychology of Success, and online instructional program explain this in depth. But she says there are many little things you can start doing today to make sure that your children, grandchildren and even you are never defeated by failure. What does the author think about the present generation? A. They don’t do well at school. B. They are often misunderstood. C. They are eager to win in sports. D. They are given too much praise. A fixed mind-set person is probably one who ___ . A. doesn’t want to work hard B. cares a lot about personal safety C. cannot share his ideas with others D. can succeed with the help of teachers What does the growth mind-set believe? A. Admitting failure is shameful. B. Talent comes with one’s birth. C. Scores should be highly valued. D. Getting over difficulties is enjoyable. What should parents do for their children based on Dweck’s study?[] A. Encourage them to learn from failures. B. Prevent them from making mistakes. C. Guide them in doing little things. D. Help them grow with praise. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Live a Happy Life Happiness is what we need most with the increase of pressure in modem life. 36 Fortunately, this is not the case. Everyone has the ability to hang on to happiness with his own efforts. The following methods may lead you to long-lasting happiness. • Take exercise. Other than health benefits that are too numerous to mention, exercise makes you smarter, happier, improves sleep, and makes you feel better about your body. 37 Keeping in touch with nature can help you reduce stress, make you more creative, improve your memory and may even make you a better person. • 38 Relationships are worth more than you think. Not feeling socially connected can make you stupider and kill you. Loneliness can lead to heart attack, stroke (中风) and diabetes (肥胖症). On the other hand, studies have shown that the longest lived people on the planet all place a strong emphasis on social engagement. • Challenge Yourself. 39 Music lessons increase intelligence. Challenging your beliefs strengthens your mind. Increasing willpower just takes a little effort each day and it’s more responsible for your success than IQ. Not getting an education or taking advantage of opportunities are two of the things people look back on their lives and regret the most. • Laugh. Laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the heart rate and the rate of breathing; it also works several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and the feet. It can even reduce the effect of pain on the body. Humor is a good way to cause laughter. 40_ A. Life is always full of hope.[] B. Spend time with friends and family. C.
