Week by week her list grew: I was very thin, I wasn’t a good student ,I talked too much, I was too proud, and so on. I tried to hear all this as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes. He listened to me quietly, then he asked. “Are the things she says true or not? Janet, didn’t you ever wonder what you’re really like? Well, you now have that girl’s opinion. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said.”I did as he told me. To my great amazement, I discovered that about half the things were true. Some of them I couldn’t change (like being very thin), but a good number I could—and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I go to fairly clear picture of myself. I brought the list back to Daddy. He refused to take it. “That’s just for you,” he added. “You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. But you have to learn to listen, not just close your ears in anger and feeling hurt. When something said about you is true, you’ll find it will be of help to you. Our world is full of people who think they know your duty. Don’t shut your ears. Listen to them all, but hear the truth and do what you know is the right thing to do.” Many years have passed. The situation often appears in my mind. In our life we often meet with some trouble and we often go to someone and ask for advice. For some advice you will treasure all your life! 24. B .He criticized her and told her to get over her shortcomings. C. He refused to take the list and have a look at it. D. He told her to put down all that her “enemy” had said about her and pay attention only to the things that were true. 25. Why did her father listen to her quietly? A. Because he knew that his daughter would not listen to him at that moment. B. Because he had been so angry with his daughter’s shortcomings that he wanted to show this by keeping silent for a while. C. Because he believed that what her daughter’s “enemy” said was mostly true. D. Because he wasn’t quite sure which girl was telling the truth. 26. What can we infer from reading the passage? A. The girl benefited from her father's advice. B. The girl was very often angry with her father. C. The girl's father loved other people's advice, D. The girl was easily hurt by her father , 27. Which do you think would be the best title for this passage? A. Not an Enemy, but the Best Friend B. My Childhood C. What People Say About You Is Always Right D. The Best Advice I’ve Ever Had C At the age of twenty-one, Shakespeare went to London, a very interesting place, to try his fortune. There was the famous London Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral, and palaces and markets and long streets full of shops. Then, too, there were the daily crowds where could be seen people from all over the world. Knights, scholars and the highwayman (拦路强盗)or thieves, who had been infamous for their clever robberies, passed by each other. Here, also, were noblemen dressed in gold, from Italy and Spain and France; slaves from Spanish America, sea captains and ministers, soldiers and servants—all held by chances or interests within the gray walls which circled London, and whose gates gave welcome to as strange a crowd as could be found in the world. Into this curious crowd came Shakespeare, quick to see and eager to learn. And before long all these strange sights were as familiar to him as the faces of his own town’s residents. Each one told its story to him so plainly that, as before he had learned the secrets of the fields and woods, so now he learned men and men’s interests that make up the great world. And he learned these lessons so well that when he came to write his plays, he made such use of them as no writer ever made before or since; for it is the use of this knowledge of the world, combined with his own genius, that makes Shakespeare the greatest dramatist that has ever lived. 28. What was London like in Shakespeare’s eyes when he first went there? A. Strange and interesting. B. Dirty and small. C. Infamous and terrible. D. Familiar and modern. 29. Which of the following best describes Shakespeare? A. Shakespeare got inspiration to write from his hometown, London. B. Shakespeare was eager to make friends with the noblemen in London. C. Shakespeare was good at observing and learning from the daily life. D. Shakespeare became the greatest dramatist owing to his own genius. 30. What does the word “one” in paragraph 5 refer to? A. Crowd. B. Sight. C. Face. D. Resident. 31. The passage probably comes from______. A. a poster B. an announcement C. an advertisement D. a textbook D Imagine you’re standing in line to buy an after-school snack at a store. You step up to the counter and the cashier scans your food. Next, you have to pay. But instead of scanning a QR code (二维码) with your smartphone, you just hold out your hand so the cashier can scan your fingerprint. Or, a camera scans your face, your eyes or even your ear. Now, this type of technology might not be far away. As technology companies move away from the traditional password, biometric security (生物识别技术), which includes fingerprint, face and voice ID, is becoming increasingly popular. In 2013, Apple introduced the iPhone 5s, one of the first smartphones with a fingerprint scanner. Since then, using one’s fingerprint to unlock a phone and make mobile payments has become commonplace, bringing convenience to our lives. And since last year, Samsung has featured eye-scanning technology in its top smartphones, while Apple’s new iPhone X can even scan a user’s face. But despite its popularity, experts warn that biometrics might not be as secure as we’d imagined. “Biometrics, ideally, are good,” John Michener, a biometrics expert, told tech website Inverse. “In practice, not so much.” When introducing the new iPhone’s Face ID feature at Apple’s Keynote Event in September, Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president, said, “The chance that a random person in the population could look at your iPhone X and unlock it with their face is about one in a million.” But it’s already been done. In a video posted on community website Reddit on Nov 3, two brothers showed how they were each able to unlock the same iPhone X using their own face, Quartz reported. And they aren’t even twins. “We may expect too much from biometrics,” Anil Jain, a computer science professor at Michigan State University, told CBS News. “No security systems are perfect.” Earlier this year, Jain found a way to trick biometric security. Using a printed copy of a thumbprint, she was able to unlock a dead person’s smartphone for police, according to tech website Splinter. “It’s good to see biometrics being used more,” Jain told CBS News, “because it adds another factor for security. But using multiple security measures is the best defense.” 32. What is the latest technology to unlock a smartphone according to the article? A. QR code scanning. B. Eye scanning. C. Face scanning. D. Fingerprint scanning. 33. What’s a major problem of the iPhone X’s Face ID system? A. It often fails to recognize its owner’s face. B. Different faces could be used to unlock the same phone. C. Face data could be used for other purposes. D. It takes too long to unlock the phone. 34. What does Anil Jain think of biometric security? A. It should be used with other security measures. B. It has caused much trouble for police. C. It’s more secure than traditional measures. D. It still needs much improvement. 35. The author wrote this article mainly to ______. A. describe the popularity of biometrics B. discuss the security problems of biometrics C. show how biometrics has changed our lives D. point out various problems with biometrics 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The new school year is right around the corner, and the adjustment to returning to school may take a few weeks. 36 Kids today are faced with far more than learning new material. I’m writing to offer some solutions for your concern. From my point of view, it’s very common for students to feel under pressure before exams. They are so thirsty for academic knowledge and psychological development. For me, sometimes the pressure was so unbearable that anger would arise, affecting my health and the moods of people around me. Being angry only led to bad scores, as my mind wasn’t clear. However, this can be controlled if you take useful measures. First of all, turn to teachers for help. They will not only solve your academic problems but also offer their guidance on your personal issues. What’s more, remember to save some time for leisure. Why not schedule regular sports activities to refresh your mind after an intensive study session? Last but not least, keep a positive attitude towards all the obstacles in life so you can have a better chance to succeed. I hope you will find these suggestions practical. Looking forward to your reply. Yours, Li Hua查看更多
