Go for a vacation spot that’s over 1,800 meters high and snow cover won’t be a worry. Val Thorens, France Resort(胜地)height:2,300-3,230m Pistes(滑雪道):495km Usual season:Late November to early May From late November to early May,snow cover is rarely a problem in Val Thorens-it’s the highest ski village in Europe with 99% of it above 2,000m, and suitable for beginners and intermediates. The excellent choice of independent ski schools here includes New Generation. The tourist attraction has benefited from new, attractive buildings, and a great collection of restaurants. Val d’Isere, France Restort height:1,850-3,456m Pistes:300km Usual season:Late November to early May Val d’Isere is one of the Alps’best-known vacation spots for advanced skiers and boarders, which means it’s not the cheapest. Obergurgl, Austria Restort height:1,950-3,080m Pistes:110km Usual season:Mid-November to early May Obergurgl has been popular with British families for more than half a century, with a mainly easy ski area linked by gondola(缆车车厢)to the higher village of Hochgurgl. B Football is a popular sport. More than a million kids play on high school teams, but football can be a hazard. The National Football League(NFL) has acknowledged that almost 30 percent of its players will eventually suffer from brain-related diseases. That’s a lot. A recent study involving 40 former NFL players showed that those who started playing football before age 12 did worse on thinking tests than players who started after age 12. By the way, all the tested players scored below average for their age and education. Concerns about the effects of constant hits to the head have caused some medical experts on brain injuries, such as Robert Cantu of Boston University, to recommend that kids not play football before age 14. I don’t think football is all bad. It helps kids learn teamwork, discipline and how to get into better physical condition. But now that we know that the sport might be dangerous, it’s time to make some changes in the youth and high school football. First, seasons should be shorter. The high school regular season should not be more than nine games. Second, kids should not play tackle(擒抱)football too soon. As Cantu points out, “By age fourteen, our necks are strong and our overall body strength is sufficient to keep the head steady when we slam at the line of scrimmage(争球).” Personally speaking, I don’t think kids should sit on the couch until they are 14. But they can play flag football and other gentler sports. If you think age 14 is too late to become a good football player, remember that four-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady started playing football at that age. 25.What does the underline word “hazard” mean?. A. difficulty B. danger C. punishment D, pain 26. Why did the former NFL players perform badly in tests? A. Their heads were hit frequently B. They had some mental disorders C. They didn’t take the tests seriously D. They received little school education 27.What does the author advise for kids under 14? A. They watch football games B. They play safer games C .Football be forbidden for them D. They play 10 games a season 28.What is the purpose of the text? A. To entertain B. To advertise C. To instruct D. To warn C As the only child of my parents, the newest fashions were always in reach for me. I liked having the latest clothes and a particular look. I felt I wouldn’t fit in with a certain crowd if I didn’t create the right image with my clothes and shoes. As time went by, however, my mother’s answer was no longer always “yes” to everything. One day I asked my mother for a little extra money to go shopping. After giving me a long speech about not spending too much on clothes, she decided to give me a credit card with the intention that I could learn to handle money like an adult. Though she warned me that $150 is the absolute maximum I could spend every month, I thought I’d be free. During the first two months, I only used the card to buy small things. But one day, I bought a pair of boots that cost $250. My mother asked me to give her back the credit card. Once she took my card away, things changed a lot. All the things I wanted seemed out of reach. I knew she wasn’t going to give me the credit card or buy me the expensive things I wanted, and consequently I was in desperate need of a job to support my spending habit. But it was about more than just having the money to support my habit. I also knew my mother was right. Image was everything to me, and image was about having what everyone else had. Now that I am older, image is still important to me, but having the latest of everything isn’t. I have a lot more responsibility and adult expenses now, so I focus on buying the things I need first and worrying about wants later. This has helped me realize what you wear doesn’t make you who you are. 29.What did the author think of following fashion trends? A. It brings a lot of attention B. It’s an attempt of social acceptance C.It needs parents’ support D. It makes a person feel important 30.Why did the mother give the author a credit card? A. To give freedom to her B. To get a discount when shopping C. To teach her to manage money wisely D. To guarantee her enough money to spend 31What caused the author to give back the card? A. Going over budget B .Lying to her mother C. Buying useless things D. Her addiction to it 32. What does the author finally realize? A Image is of no importance B. Saving money is more important C .Life is about more than material things D. She should work to cover her expenses D If you are like most English learners, you may be familiar with this: You think you understand a topic. Yet when asked to use what you have learned, you are not able to remember the information. Not being able to retrieve(数据检索)new ideas could happen on a test or even in a conversation. Sarah Lynn, an educational consultant and teacher, thinks English learners can improve their ability to remember and use new words by testing themselves. She adds that self-testing improves retrieval—the ability to use and remember new words. Lynn is not the only expert who recommends self-testing. A paper in Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition says one benefit of testing practice is that it improves retrieval. Retrieving information once makes retrieving that information easier in the future. In addition, the paper says, when students test themselves as part of studying, they learn what they do not know. When students know what they do not understand, they can pay more attention to overcoming their weaknesses. Lynn recommends that learners test themselves by getting away from what they are studying. Then, they should test themselves by thinking about what they have learned. She recommends that learners make themselves write or speak something. Lynn suggests reading something or watching a video on the topic, then getting rid of the reading or video material and summarizing it. This will allow learners to test what they know. Next time you are studying English, try to test yourself. But do not just assume that you can read something once or twice and fully understand it. Even if you highlight important points or take notes in a class, you probably do not fully understand what you learned. After all, Olympic athletes cannot learn how to swim or run just from reading a book. They have to practice swimming or running every day for years. They often compete in races to test their skills. 33. What’ s the common situation faced by English learners? A. They fail to come up with new ideas B. They are not familiar with a certain topic C. They don’t learn as well as they think D. They don’t know how to improve their test-taking skills. 34. Which is the advice given by Lynn about self-testing? A. Recall what’s learned with the book closed B. Remember what’s learned by repetitive reciting C. To warn English learners not to be proud. D. Challenge yourself to learn from videos 35. What’s the best title of the passage? A. Learning actually takes effort most B. Improve English by self-testing C. Memorize more new words D. What is self-testing? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Sometimes we can get so caught up in the stress and it often appears hard for us to get rid of it. 36 .
