During a career that began in the 1950s and spanned more than five decades, Cohen had a strong influence on later generations of artists. Cohen was also notable for the effect his music had on film and television. His best known song in that regard is “Hallelujah,” a darkly romantic song from his 1984 album “Various Positions.” Subject to (取决于)numerous interpretations over the years, it has been covered by over 300 different artists, most notably Jeff Buckley on his 1994 album “Grace”, generally regarded as the best version of the song. “Hallelujah” has later been featured in dozens of films and television shows, used to underlines vastly different moments ranging from warm and sweet scenes to mourning and even celebration. Legendary artist---Leonard Cohen B If you want your life to stand for space and kindness, it’s helpful to do kind, peaceful things. One of my favorite ways to do this is by developing my own helping rituals(行为). These little acts of kindness are opportunities to be of service and reminders of how good it feels to be kind and helpful. We live in a rural area of the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of what we see is beauty and nature. One of the exceptions to the beauty is the litter that some people throw out of their windows as they are driving on the rural roads. One of the few drawbacks to living in the remote area is that public services , such as litter collection, are less available than they are closer to the city. A helping ritual that I practice regularly with my two children is picking up litter in our surrounding area. We’ve become so accustomed to doing this that my daughters will often say to me in excited voices, “There’s some litter, Daddy, stop the car!” And if we have time, we will often pull over and pick it up. It may seem strange, but we actually enjoy it. We pick up litter in parks, on sidewalks, practically anywhere. Once I even saw a complete stranger picking up litter close to where we live. He smiled at me and said, “I saw you doing it, and it seemed like a good idea.” Picking up litter is only one of endless supplies of possible helping rituals. You might like holding a door open for people, visiting lonely elderly people in nursing homes, or, shoveling snow from someone else’s driveway. Think of something that seems effortless yet helpful. It’s fun, personally rewarding, and sets a good example. Everyone wins. 25. What I the author dissatisfied with in his area? A. Natural scenery B. Public service C. Some people littering randomly D. Railway transportation 26. How do the author’s rituals influence others? A. His children misunderstand him B. He sets a good example for others C. Nobody throws litter any more D. His family are awarded with a prize 27. What does the text mainly convey? A. Picking up litter is effortless B. Nobody wins from kindness C. God helps those who help themselves D. Little acts of kindness are helpful C By day, the Robin Hood restaurant, which sits on a side street near the centre of Madrid, is a typical Spanish bar. But at night, it transforms itself into a pioneering place where homeless people cam dine, free of charge, at tables set with flowers, metal cutlery and proper glasses. The restaurant is the latest scheme(计划)from the charity Mensajeros de la Paz which was founded 54 years ago by Father Angel. Its business model----using breakfast and lunch takings from paying customers to fund free evening meals for the homeless---is simple enough. Its aim, however, is a little more ambitious. “The inspiration came from Pope Francis, who’s spoken again and again about the importance of giving people dignity, whether it’s through bread or through work” said Father Angel. “So we though, why not open a restaurant with tablecloths and proper cutlery and waiters? People with nothing can come and eat here in the restaurant and get the same treatment as everyone else. It’s just common sense.” Each day, Father Angel’s nearby church-cum-social centre provides 200 homeless people with breakfast and lunch. In the evening, the new restaurant will feed 100 homeless people in two sittings. The Non-Governmental Organization plans to expand the scheme and hopes it will attract famous chefs who will give up the odd evening to come to cook in the kitchen. Father Angel acknowledges that there may be something a little provocative(刺激)in naming the restaurant after Robin Hood who robs the rich to help the poor. But the idea is less to rob the rich than to encourage them to share their good fortune. “The name is just to add interest and get people to notice.” 28. Why do people regard the restaurant as a pioneering place? A. It’s a typical Spanish bar B. It has a warm atmosphere C. Everyone can dine here free of charge D. It provides the homeless with free supper 29. What does the business model of the restaurant fully consider? A. Quality of food B. People’s dignity C. Unequal treatment D. Expensive equipment 30. What can we know from the last paragraph? A. The restaurant is named for fun and attention B. It’s boring to name the restaurant after Robin Hood C. The restaurant wants to charge the rich to feed the poor D. Father Angel is dissatisfied with the name of the restaurant 31. What can be inferred from the text? A. More similar restaurants have been set up B. The scheme is not popular with people C. The scheme of the restaurant proves successful D. Many chefs will quit their jobs to work in this restaurant D Do you ever have a task you need to complete but however urgent it may be, you just don’t get on and do it? From doing the housework to writing an assignment, there’s always something I can put off until tomorrow. Being a procrastinator is quite easy. There are so many other more interesting distractions such as watching funny cat videos on the internet or catching up with friends on social media! But Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, once wisely said that: 'You may delay, but time will not', so maybe I should pull my socks up and get on with what I should be doing. The reason why many of us delay doing something is that we live for the present not the future. We are reluctant to engage in tasks that relate to the future – sorting something out now that will benefit us in the future doesn't seem like a priority(优先). Daphna Oyserman, Professor of Psychology at the University of Southern California, says that "many things that are quite important about the future require that we start doing things now rather than waiting for later to happen." So get on with it now rather than have a last-minute panic later! But it's hard to arouse any enthusiasm when there are boring chores to be done, so how can I control my lack of focus and knuckle down to what really needs to be done? One idea is temptation bundling(诱惑捆绑) – doing two activities together – one that is boring but essential and one that you enjoy but isn't so productive. Planning is essential too and we should never underestimate how long things will take us. Maybe for now, I'll make a cup of tea, and consider these thoughts before I get down to some important tasks – anyway, there's always tomorrow. 32. A procrastinator is someone who ________. A. won’t delay things that must be done B. keeps delaying things that must be done C. tries one’s best to work D. will never waste any time 33. Why do many people put off doing something? A. They tend to live for the present not the future B. They have many other important things to do C. They lose hope for their future D. They have much time to waste 34. What does the fourth paragraph mainly discuss? A. How to plan your future B. How to resist bad temptation C. How to deal with boring chores D. How to focus on finishing your important tasks 35. What’s the main purpose of this text? A. To advise us not to delay doing important tasks B. To tell us how to save our time C. To criticize people who often delay D. To show us tips to get inspired 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Maybe you just have one big personal conflict but you don’t know how to solve it.
