You might not even remember what they look like if you go away for a short vacation. You don't miss them when they are elsewhere. It is also this type of friend that gives you the most amount of aggravation(恼怒). Since most of the time you are placed in a position where you have ‎ to act friendly. You would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something that makes you feel angry, such as tapping the fingers on a table or shouting loudly. You meet them at a certain place and at the end of the meeting you go your separate way and they go theirs. You don't talk too often with this sort of friend, and you don't share each other's secrets.‎ ‎     Lastly, we have "best friends". This sort of friend is there when you need them. They know you as a person and they are there through thick and thin. Best friends are the ones that you can lean and depend on no matter what happens. Which of the following statements is WRONG about the second type of friend?‎ A. They are only social partners. ‎ B. You don't talk very often with them.‎ C. You don't share your secrets with them.‎ D. They are called "pest friends" by the writer.‎ ‎8. If someone is with you through thick and thin, it means ______.‎ A. he/she is your pest friend for sure ‎ B. he/she agrees with whatever you say C. you spend most of your time together having fun D. he/she is with you even when there are difficulties ‎ C Nowadays , a new method is used to decide who are the top students in school . The best students are those who not only get high marks ,but also follow the rules and the behavior standards for middle school students . Here are some of the new rules and standards .‎ Tell the truth . Have you ever copied someone else’s work in an exam ? If you have , then don’t do it again ! That’s not something an honest student should do . If you have played computer games for two hours in your room , don’t tell your parents you were doing your homework .‎ Learn to be loving and caring . Good students love animals and care about other people .‎ Learn to work together with others . It would be more fun when more people work together . Did you quarrel with your teammates when your basketball team lost ? Only working together can make your team stronger . Be friendly to the people you are with . Try to think of others , instead of only yourself .‎ Be open to new ideas . Have you ever thought that people could live on the moon ? Perhaps you’ll discover Earth II some day . Don’t look down upon new ideas . Everyone’s ideas are important . You should welcome them , because new ideas make life better for everyone .‎ Use the Internet carefully . The Internet can be very useful for your study . Some websites on the Internet are not for kids , so make sure to visit the web pages that are good for you . You can use the web for fun or homework . Good websites for children can ______ .‎ A. help them with their study B. do homework for them C. make life easier D. be a waste of time ‎12. The passage mainly tells us how to _______ .‎ A. do more at school B. be concerned about others C. use the Internet wisely D. be top students D ‎ As an old saying goes, laughter is the best medicine. Until recently, few people took the saying very seriously. Now, however, doctors have begun to survey laughter and the positive effects it has on the human body. They have found evidence that laughter really can improve people's health.‎ Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny films, while doctors checked their heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and muscle. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the heart rate and the rate of breathing; it also works several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and even feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be beneficial.‎ Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effects of pain on the body. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group which tolerates the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce endorphins (内啡肽) in the brain. These are natural chemicals which decrease both stress and pain.‎ There is also some evidence to suggest that laughter helps the body's immune (免疫)system , that is, the system which fights infection. In an experiment, one group of students watched a funny video while another group served as the control group-in other words, a group with which to compare the first group. Doctors checked the blood of the student in both groups and found that the people in the group that watched the video had an increase in the activity of their white blood cells, that is, the cell which fight infection.‎ As a result of these discoveries, some doctors and psychiatrists (精神病学家) in the United States now hold laughter clinics, in which they try to improve their patients' condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter. ‎ ‎13. We can learn from the first paragraph that laughter _____.‎ A. is beneficial to one's health B. is related to some illness ‎ C. has been surveyed long since D. has positive effects on one’s appearance ‎14. Which of the following statements is NOT true of laughter, according to the passage?‎ A. It reduces the pain B. It exercises the body C.It improves the body's immune system D. It can cure cancer ‎15. What is the text mainly about?‎ ‎ A. Doctors have done many experiments.‎ ‎ B. Laughter can cure(治愈) many kinds of illnesses.‎ C. Laughter benefits our health.‎ D.Clinics to improve patients’ condition are popular in America.‎ 第二节:(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Does failure really exist?‎ If you believe you have failed, then you have. If you believe you don’t have the ability to succeed, then you don’t. __16__The moment you decide to give up or to stop working toward your goals, failure is born.‎ ‎●__17__‎ Most people give themselves up without even realizing it. They are willing to work hard on reaching their goals, but only until the going gets too rough or their energy dies down. Don’t do that! __18__ Never quit, never admit failure, and never lose heart.‎ ‎●Don’t believe in a clear finish line for goals.‎ It’s a good idea to set a general timeline, but remember that something will be beyond your control. __19__ If you lock yourself into a given timeline, you might make yourself feel like a failure! Instead, get a general idea of when you’d like your goal to be completed. Then take it one day at a time and focus on making progress instead of reaching the finish line in as little time as possible.‎ ‎●Be sure that you don’t see difficulties as failures.‎ Difficulties mean only one thing: it’s not time for your goal to be completed yet. That’s it!
