A friend is moving house this weekend and would like some help, and you agree. But, what you really want is a couple of quiet days relaxing at home. Or a roommate spends the entire weekends playing video games and wants to borrow your homework for “reference”. But, you’ve just finished it after taking a whole day to work hard. Many people say “yes” to these kinds of requests. They tend not to consider their own interests and feelings, and are often angry with themselves afterwards. Saying “no” requires courage and considerable practice, in fact, according to psychologists. “Everyone wants to be liked,” says Gabriele Steinki, a German psychologist. “Saying ‘no’ risks losing the affection of the person asking the favor or even a job.” The result is that many people say “yes” just for keeping the peace. But experts say this is regrettable. Anyone should have the right to say “no”. In fact, rejecting a request can even help to strengthen a relationship because it expresses a true feeling. But, for people who are used to agreeing to every request, changing can be a long and uncomfortable learning process. Most people believe that “If I say ‘no’, I’ll lose the affection of the person. But the affection is important to me.” This way of thinking can be replaced by this: “If he only likes me because I always do what suits him, then the price of his affection is too high in the long term.” Steinki says the key is talking to the other person to find a mutual (相互的) solution. “One needs to present the situation from one’s own point of view, and to suggest how the situation can be dealt with to the advantage of both parties. The other person must have the feeling that his interests are being considered.” When the refusal is not accepted, Steinki advises giving the reasons calmly again until the person gets the message. 21.Most people say “yes” much more readily than “no” because ________. A. they don’t care about their own interests and feelings B. they don’t know they will regret afterwards C. they have already been used to saying “yes” D. they care more about others’ affection 22.In the opinion of psychologists, _________ . A. people need a lot of practice to say “no” B. people should say “yes” to keep the peace C. saying “no” means losing a job D. people have the right to be liked 23.According to Steinki, what should you do if you want to refuse the other person’s request? A. Just say you can’t help him. B. Say sorry to him. C. Refuse him clearly.浙江高考墙 QQ2754808740 D. Talk to the other person to find a mutual way. B For many parents, raising a teenager is like fighting a long war, but years go by without any clear winner. Like a border conflict(冲突) between neighboring countries, the parent-teen war is about boundaries: Where is the line between what I control and what you do? Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it. From the parents' point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents' complete unreasonableness(不理性). And of course, the teens see it in exactly the same way, except oppositely. Both feel trapped. In this article, I'll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no-win situation is quarrels over unimportant things. Examples include the color of the teen's hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child's failure to eat a good breakfast before school, or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends. Second, blaming. The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong. Third, needing to be right. It doesn’t matter whether the topic is politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg; the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong for both wish to be considered an authority--someone who actually knows something-and therefore to command respect. Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they'll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress. 24. Why does the author compare the parent-teen war to a border conflict? A. Both can continue for generations. B. Both are about where to draw the line. C. Neither has any clear winner. D. Neither can be put to an end. 25. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean? A. The teens think it is their parents who start the conflict. B. The teens agree with their parents on the cause of the conflict. C. The teens cause their parents of misleading them. D. The teens tend to have a full understanding of their parents. 26. Parents and teens want to be right because they want to_________. A. give orders to the other B. know more than the other C. gain respect from the other D. get the other to behave properly 27. What will the author most probably discuss in the paragraph that follows? A. Causes for the parent-teen conflicts. B. Examples of the parent-teen war. C. Solutions for the parent-teen problems. D. Future of the parent-teen relationship. C Teenage prodigy (天才) Kylian Mbappé is on top of the soccer world after helping France win the 2018 Fifa World Cup, 20 years after their only previous victory. Kylian Mbappé grew up in the northern Parisian suburb(巴黎郊区)of Bondy and practically lived at the local soccer club, where professionals said he was a star from day one. Kylian Mbappé helped France win their second World Cup title yesterday, scoring the fourth goal for “Les Bleus” in their 4-2 win over Croatia in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. It was one of four goals the young star scored in the 2018 World Cup for France. Mbappé also led France to their early victory over Peru, 1-0, and scored twice against Argentina in the quarter-finals. Some soccer fans are just getting to know the 19-year-old, but Mbappé has had an impressive career since he was a baby. Growing up in the northern Parisian suburb of Bondy, Mbappé practically lived at the local soccer club, where professionals believed he was a star from day one. Former coach Antonio Riccardi says Mbappé was already head and shoulders above other children when he started working with him at the age of six. “Kylian could do much more than the other children,” Riccardi says. “His dribbling(运球) was already fantastic and he was much faster than the others.” By the age of 12, Mbappé was training at France's elite Clairefontaine football centre. At 14, he was playing with Monaco's professional club, even before he completed his high school diploma at 17. Mbappé became the soccer world’s most expensive teenager this summer when PSG activated a clause to make his loan move from Monaco permanent for a reported €180 million (nearly US$210.4 million). He spent the past season at PSG on loan prior to the transfer taking effect. He made history yesterday, when he became just one of two teenage players to score in a World Cup final. The other, Brazil’s Pelé, played in the 1958 final when he was 17. The soccer legend took yesterday’s news in his stride. “If Kylian keeps equalling my records like this, I may have to dust my boots off again,” he tweeted. Mbappé says yesterday’s World Cup triumph is only the beginning. “I want to do even better things,” he says. “But being world champion is a good start.” 28. How many goals did Kylian Mbappé score for “Les Bleus” in their win against Croatia? A. 1 B. 2 C. 3 D.4 29.
