The librarian can obtain a list of staff and pupils from the school office to prepare library cards.‎ The normal length of borrowing depends on the person running the library, but four weeks is the suggested period of loan (借出). The book to be borrowed is stamped two weeks in advance.‎ Usually, fines are set if users fail to return items on or before the due date. Some items, such as videos or reference-related materials, might be borrowed on an overnight loan.‎ Using an automated (自动化的) system Details of all pupils and staff using the library are imported on the system. The following suggestions may be helpful in producing library cards for your school: ‎ The cards should be designed by the students (as a competition) and copied.‎ The school logo and the name of the school should be included.‎ The cards should be colour-copied or just photo-copied.‎ The cards should be barcoded (给······标上条形码).‎ Write the users’ names on the cards.‎ Go to the borrower records on the system. Find the borrower’s name and scan in the barcode to register the user.‎ Alternatively, there are reputable companies who produce library cards. Although these may work out more costly, the cards can last for a long time and reduce valuable librarian time. ‎ Checking resources regularly An annual check of all stock is recommended in order to find out missing resources, and resources to be withdrawn from stock. The latter may be necessary, due to lack of use or because the resource has been damaged beyond repair; alternatively, the information contained within the resource may have gone out of date or have become culturally insensitive.‎ ‎21. Which of the following is suggested for the library card designs?‎ A. The school office. B. The librarian. C. Teachers. D. Students.‎ ‎22. Compared with self-made library cards, ready-made ones are______.‎ A. hard-wearing B. money-saving C. more popular D. better barcoded ‎23. What type of writing is this text?‎ A. A library announcement. B. A school report. ‎ C. A local advertisement. D. A practical guide.‎ B ‎“It’s a big hammer to crack a nut.” This is how one angry parent described the recent crackdown (强制措施) by London police on parents who drop their kids off at school by car. Yes, you read that correctly – the very mode of transportation that many American schools insist is the only safe way to deliver kids to school is now considered illegal in the UK.‎ The decision to fine any vehicles seen dropping off or picking up kids within a particular zone of east London comes from city councilors’(议员) long-term efforts to make the area safer and less crowded. They say they’ve been trying for years “to encourage reasonable parking”, but in vain. Neighborhood residents complain frequently about their driveways being blocked by illegally parked cars for 15 minutes or more, often while they’re trying to get to work, and the streets are long overcrowded.‎ Now the rules have changed. Some parents are angry. Angie is a mother who made the “big hammer” comment and says the crackdown is “way over the top.” The nearest drop-off point for her six-year-old is now a five-minute walk from the school. Others are happy with the decision, severe though it may seem. ‎ Councilor Jason Frost said: “Traffic has clearly reduced, and more children are now walking to school, which is a great outcome. I would rather have complaints that we are slightly inconveniencing parents than hear that a child had been seriously injured because nothing was done.”‎ I witness daily the chaos (混乱) created by these in-town drivers, when I walk my own kids to school. There’s a parking lot crowded with vehicles and a slow-moving train of cars moving in circles, many filling the air with harmful smokes. Meanwhile, the conversations around child over-weight and the importance of daily physical activity continue to stand out in schools. ‎ ‎24. Why is Angie opposed to the new rule?‎ ‎ A. She is often fined by London police.‎ ‎ B. She will lose her job as a school driver.‎ ‎ C. She has adapted to the American practice.‎ D. She thinks it adds inconvenience to her son.‎ ‎25. Why has the new rule been made according to Jason Frost?‎ ‎ A. On account of many complaints. B. Because of heavy traffic jams.‎ ‎ C. Owing to safety concern. D. Due to air pollution.‎ ‎26. What can be seen after the crackdown is carried out?‎ ‎ A. Less daily chaos. B. Support from all people.‎ C. More over-weight children. D. Complaints from neighbors.‎ ‎27. What is the main idea of the text?‎ ‎ A. Parents attempt to resist a school rule.‎ ‎ B. London police cause widespread anger.‎ C. American schools care more about kids’ safety.‎ D. Different voices are heard on a new traffic policy.‎ C ‎“Clothes Swapping” has become an increasingly popular activity for women in the United States. The women can give away unwanted clothing at a clothes swap event and get something different in return.‎ Recently about 300 women went to a clothes swap at a high school in Springfield‎, ‎Virginia. It was the largest crowd ever for the area’s popular clothing-swapping group.‎ Daphne Steinberg was having a good day. “For anyone who knows Ann Taylor LOFT, Ann Taylor is a really nice women’s designer and I will totally wear this to work. So I love that, I love that I can equip myself for work, have a good time in doing it, not totally bankrupt myself.”‎ Sandy Van Dusen likes the idea that clothes are finding new homes instead of being thrown away. “Because it helps to keep the Earth green. There’s no point in my opinion in continuing to buy new clothes when we can reuse what’s already here. Give it a new home--- let somebody else love what you used to love and no longer love.”‎ Kim Pratt organized the clothing-swapping event in Springfield. She also organized a money-raising activity for the high school’s debate team. It is one of several ways that her group gives to charitable causes.Another is by donating all of the “un-swapped” clothing to shelters for victims of domestic violence.‎ ‎“I started doing this four years ago, and we’ve been doing it for four years, getting bigger and bigger each time we have a swap.”‎ She used the social media website meetup.com to help publicize the events. The website has helped her group grow from 30 members to 1,300. Mrs.Pratt says most of the members respect the clothing swap rules. But she say competition for desirable fashion can be strong.‎ ‎“We have to tell people sometimes not to hover over the new people coming in with their clothing. As they put it out, some people tend to grab the stuff right out of their hands and it becomes like a free-for-all. We try to avoid that as much as possible.” ‎ ‎28. At a clothes swap women can ______ .‎ A. make some money by giving away unwanted clothing B. buy whatever clothing they like C. have a social gathering and make friends D. exchange unwanted clothing for something different ‎29. We can learn from what Daphne Steinberg said that ______.‎ A. she got some nice clothes at the clothes swap B. the clothes swap was the largest ever in the area C. it was the first time she had been to a clothes swap D. she saved much more money than she had expected ‎30. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about? ‎ A. How Kim Pratt started the clothing-swapping event.‎ B. What Kim Pratt did with the un-swapped clothes.‎ C. How Kim Pratt raised money to help charitable causes.‎ D. What Kim Pratt did to help people in need.‎ ‎31. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that ______ .‎ A. clothes swaps often go out of control in the end B. clothes-swapping is becoming increasingly popular with women C. Improper behavior at clothes swaps needs to be controlled D. more clothing swapping events need to be organized D Over the last week, a “poisonous kale (甘蓝菜)” theory has been going widespread after an article warned that the vegetable was associated with a variety of medical conditions. It’s time to separate fear from fact on the health benefits of kale.‎ ‎ As a member of the cabbage family, kale is low in calories and rich in nutrients and minerals, especially vitamin A, C and K. Consumed for thousands of years, it’s been a health plus for millions of eaters throughout the world. ‎ ‎ However, numerous web articles have reported on some evidence offered by a medicine researcher. The researcher found that thallium was detected in a few people who were heavy consumers of kale. Thallium is a heavy metal often found in very small amounts in soil and minerals. His conclusion was that these medical conditions were connected to the impact that very small amounts of thallium detected in some kale samples had on the body. ‎ ‎ I don’t think the conclusion is based on a strict scientific basis. It’s essential to point out that the original report was in a web magazine, not a scientific journal which undergoes peer review by other scientists. A scientific review includes a careful evaluation of how the findings and conclusions were made. Certain factors are critical before an evidence-based conclusion can be made, such as: how many people were in a study; how well controlled were other factors; how much kale was consumed and for how long; how much thallium was in the kale.‎ ‎ It is a fact that kale and other vegetables can absorb thallium from the soil. But the ability for a plant to absorb very small amounts of a chemical does not automatically make it harmful to your health. And even finding measurable amounts of thallium in someone’s body doesn’t imply that the thallium is causing an ill health effect, according to the CDC.‎ But we can still learn a lesson from this. Plants grow in soil. Growers must continue to be careful in monitoring the quality of their soil. And what about consumers? Eat your kale — and include lots of other colorful fruits and vegetables. As with all things in nature, variety is key for good health.‎ ‎32.The medicine researcher made a conclusion that _______.‎ A. these medical conditions were related to thallium B. trace amounts of thallium had little effect on the body C. thallium was found in trace amounts in the minerals D. kale had a lot of health benefits on human bodies ‎33.According to the writer, the original report in a web magazine is _______.‎ A. scientific B. essential C. unreliable D. popular ‎34. What does “poisonous kale” theory refer to according to the passage?‎ A. Kale can absorb thallium from the soil.‎ B. Kale is harmful to health with thallium in it.‎ C. Small amounts of thallium can be found in kale.‎ D. Thallium can cause an ill health effect even in very small amounts.‎ ‎35.The writer thinks that kale is _______.‎ A. safe to consume B. poisonous to eat C. hard to conserve D. terrible to smell 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分。共 10 分) ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Anyone who keeps a garden knows that most plants bend towards the sun to catch as much sunlight as they can. This is called “solar tracking”.‎ ‎ 36 If you observe a sunflower in the early morning, you will find it turning its face eastward; at sunset, on the other hand, its face will turn towards the west.‎ ‎ 37 In other words, what happens if you take a sunflower out of the garden bed and keep it in a completely dark room?‎ Surprisingly, the sunflower will continue its solar tracking without sunlight. It will bend, just as it did outside, eastward at sunrise and westward at sunset, even if there is not a single ray of light inside the dark room. This is a classic example of what scientists call a circadian rhythm .What does it mean? 38 It’s not directed by the environment.‎ Sunflowers do follow the sun, but they don’t just “seek” sunlight. 39 Although sunflowers don’t bend with any purpose in mind, some scientists think they have evolved their solar tracking system over millions of years. According to this theory, the evolution helps sunflowers catch light more effectively, and the ones that catch light best are most likely to survive. As a result of this natural selection, we now have sunflowers that bend automatically. 40 After a certain stage, sunflowers stop following the sun and only face east.‎ A. Sunflowers are a well-known example of this.‎ B. Sunflowers are also an important source of food.‎ C. Wild sunflowers seen on roadsides don t follow the sun.‎ D. It is a daily cycle of behavior that is inside of living things.‎ E. However, that only happens when sunflowers are young plants.‎ F. But what if there’s no sun for the sunflower to guide its solar tracking?‎ G. This is clear from the fact that sunflowers in darkness bend just as well.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完型填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ Rocky was a 65-pound dog. Rita was his eleven-year-old 41 .
