One day Mike said to his parents, “ we are playing against the Gum Tree School. Can you come and see us play football?” And they agreed to come. The match was in the park. The Gum Tree School team wore green shirts and blue shorts, and Mike’s team wore white shirts and red shorts. In the first two minutes of the match, Mike ran with the ball and kicked it into the goal. All the Ashland School boys and their families were very happy to see it. After that, Mike scored two again before half time. Then in the second half of the match he almost scored another goal, but he hardly touched the ball with his foot, and the goalkeeper caught it easily and threw it out again. After the match, Mike’s father said to him, “You missed a good chance to score another goal then, Mike. Why did you kick it weakly?” “Because there were tears in the goalkeeper’s eyes.” Mike answered. 21. One day Mike’s parents went to ______. Red C As we know, it is common for people to catch a cold in winter and most people believe they know the reason for colds. However, scientists say people have some wrong beliefs about the cause of colds. Many people think that once you get infected by colds, you will not be easy to be attacked by colds for the rest of your life. That’s not the case. There are about 200 different viruses that cause the common cold. You catch a cold because of one kind of them this time, but you might catch a cold next time because of another. Others believe that people get sick just because of the cold weather in winter. That is also wrong. It’s because people tend to stay closer in winter and the cold virus is transmitted from one person to another through handshakes, sneezing, or coughing. While there is no actual cure for the common cold, scientists say there are still a few things you can do to help you. Some experts say honey and chicken soup are effective against colds. Especially honey. There is increasing evidence that it helps shorten the duration of the common cold sometimes even by two to three days particularly in children. Chicken soup also helps reduce the duration of the cold. In addition, if you do have a cold and you don’t feel like eating anything, it’s not going to hurt you but you have to drink a lot and you can drink water or tea because doctors say the water cycle in your bodies helps to cure colds. That’s very important. Though there is more than one way to deal with colds, doctors say the best advice is to continue using whatever works best for you. 63. We know from the second paragraph that ______. A. there are people who never catch a col B. colds can be caused by different viruses C. the common cold is caused by only one virus D. all people are easily attacked by colds 64. The underlined word “transmitted” in the fourth paragraph means “______”. A. cured B. passed C. changed D. caused 65. If you have a cold, you can do the following except ______. A. drinking a lot of water B. eating honey C. forcing yourself to eat D. drinking chicken soups 66. It can be inferred from the passage that ______. A. now scientists have found out practical treatment for colds B. different people may have different ways to fight against colds C. working in freezing weather is the main reason for colds D. colds can be passed from animals to human beings D Air pollution, such as smog, has become a serious problem around the world. Besides wearing a mask, what else can we do to protect ourselves from the dirty air? Scientists have developed a new inhaler (吸入剂) that can reduce the effect air pollution has on people. It could help millions of people who are suffering from air pollution, the Guardian reports. This inhaler is developed by German company Bitop and contains a molecule (分子) named Ectoine. The molecule creates a layer (涂层) that protects lungs from polluted air. It’s reported that the inhaler will be affordable to most people when it comes to the market. Air pollution kills more than three million people a year worldwide and leads to health problems like lung and heart disease and strokes, according to a 2015 research project in the journal Nature. It is also linked to brain disease, mental illness and diabetes (糖尿病). Andreas Bilstein at Bitop believed that the inhaler could be useful around the world, because air pollution is not just a European problem: “Especially in Asia - China in particular - the demand for such a product is even higher.” Many Chinese cities have been suffering from smog. According to World Health Organization, two of the 10 most polluted cities in the world in 2014 were in China. About 800,000 deaths that are linked to air pollution take place in the country every year. However, such inhalers should never be an excuse for not trying to stop air pollution, said Professor Jean Krutmann at the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine. “The best thing is that we have clean air and we don’t need any prophylactic (预防性的) treatment,” he said. 32. What is the new inhaler? A. It can help us reduce the harm of air pollution. B. It can make the dirty air clean. C. It can solve the air pollution problem. D. It can help protect the environment. 33. From the third paragraph, we learn that ______. A. the inhaler comes from a US company. B. the inhaler is named Ectoine. C. the inhaler’s price will be too high for most people. D. a molecule in the inhaler forms a layer on lungs . 34. Which of the following is NOT true? A. Air pollution kills millions of people a year worldwide. B. Air pollution can cause mental illness. C. Air pollution is a serious problem in China. D. There are no air pollution problems in Europe. 35. Which is Professor Jean Krutmann’s opinion? A. Such inhalers don’t mean much to people. B. We’d better produce more medicines to treat lung diseases. C. We can depend on inhalers to solve air pollution problems. D. We should take action to control air pollution. E The Winner's Guide to Success Do you know what makes people successful? To find out the answers, an American reporter recently visited some of the most successful people around the world. 36 l Be responsible for yourself. Sometimes you may want to blame others for your failure to get ahead. In fact, when you say someone or something apart from yourself is stopping you from making success, you're giving away your own power. 37 l Write a plan. It is very difficult to try to get what you want without a good plan. It is just like trying to drive through strange roads to a city far away. 38 Without this "map", you may waste your time, money and also your energy; while with the "map", you'll enjoy the "trip" and get what you want in the shortest possible time. l Be willing to pay the price. Nothing great is easy to get. So you must be ready to work hard—even harder than you have ever done. If you are not willing to pay the price, you won't get anything valuable. l 39 40 When you are doing something, you must tell yourself again and again: Giving up is worse than failure because failure can be the mother of success, but giving up means the death of hope. I’d like to talk about it with you. In fact, in your senior high school, your classmates are also new and facing the same problem, so you don’t have to worry too much about it. There is also something that you can do to change this situation. First, try to invite some of your classmates to take part in some activities together after school. This will help you understand each other better than communicating with others. Then, help your classmates when they are in trouble and ask them to help you when you have difficulty. I believe you will make many new friends and you will have a happy school life there. Yours truly, LiHua查看更多
