绝密★启用前 四川省棠湖中学2017-2018学年高二下学期期末考试英语试题 评卷人 得分 一、阅读理解 “Anyone who offends(冒犯)China will be killed no matter how far the target is.” That is the tagline for Wolf Warriors 2, the Chinese box office hit. It sees a soldier entering into an African war-zone and saving hundreds of lives from Western bad guys. It’s basically the plot of your typical Hollywood action movie, but this time it’s a Chinese man upholding justice and keeping the world safe. Following in the footsteps of Jackie Chan and Jet Li, martial arts expert Wu Jing is among a new generation of Chinese action stars turned directors. His first Wolf Warrior film came out in 2014, but it didn’t catch much attention. Mainstream movies, especially those promoting patriotism(爱国主义), usually don’t do very well in China. Wolf Warrior 2, however, has become a phenomenon. The massive response in China also made the film top the global box office worldwide last weekend, beating Hollywood blockbuster Dunkirk. Many moviegoers said online that they were touched by the patriotic plot. “This movie is the best Chinese action movie,” one social media user wrote. “Shockingly good-hot blood and tough guys. I cried after watching it,” said another. One reason for the enthusiastic response compared to the first Wolf Warrior film is its improved action scenes. Many in China have praised the film for its fighting scenes and special effects, saying they are of “Hollywood quality”. The movie, which is entirely privately funded, has also been lauded for its attention to detail and reportedly features close replicas(复制品)of many of the latest weapons used by the Chinese army. Timing has also contributed to its success, with the Chinese nation in the times of a new wave of patriotism. The film first came out just ahead of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese amy, a hugely symbolic event for the country. Over the weekend, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) held a grand military parade, which presented the latest weapons of China. In a serous speech, which in parts was not different to lines from the film. President Xi Jinping promised to fight anyone who tried to tear China apart. 1.The text is meant to ________. A. introduce a recent action movie B. explain why Wu Jing is a successful director C. compare Wolf Warriors 2 with Hollywood movies D. claim that China is a super power in terms of weapons production 2.President Xi Jinping’s speech suggests that ________. A. no one dares to fight with China B. the military parade is very successful C. China will become a developed country soon D. China will oppose any attempt at national separation 3.The reason why Wolf Warriors 2 becomes a box office hit is that ________. A. it doesn’t promote patriotism B. its combat scenes are of higher quality C. the weapons in the movie are the most advanced D. Wu Jing is becoming better at directing after failing his first movie 【答案】 1.A 2.D 3.B 【解析】 【分析】 本文是一篇说明文。 1.A 主旨大意题 本文以影片中的一句话“Anyone who offends(冒犯)China will be killed no matter how far the target is.” President Xi Jinping promised to fight anyone who tried to tear China apart. One reason for the enthusiastic response compared to the first Wolf Warrior film is its improved action scenes. B。 Here’s a simple challenge: name a famous inventor. Perhaps Leonardo da Vinci springs to mind. Or the pioneer of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell. But you might be hard-pressed to name many female inventors, even though women are behind some of the most widely used technologies in the modern world. For example, where would we be without the windscreen wiper? Back on a freezing winter’s day in 1902, Mary Anderson was traveling by tram through New York city. Snow was falling, forcing the driver to stop repeatedly and get out to clear it. Each time the door opened, Mary suffered. She had a brainwave: why not make something that could be operated from inside the vehicle? And that’s exactly what she did. Let’s step in from freezing New York for our next invention. The dishwasher dates back even earlier to the 19th Century, and to the dinner parties thrown by a lady called Josephine Cochrane. As a frequent host, she wanted a machine that could wash dishes faster than people. Her response was to develop what was to become the first commercially successful dishwasher. Need something to do while the dishwasher is on? How about a round of Monopoly(强手棋游戏)? One of the most popular board games around, the rules were first drawn up by a lady called Elizabeth Magie, and patented in 1904. To an altogether different kind of innovation: Kevlar is the lightweight fibre used in bulletproof(防弹)vests. The material is used by millions every day and has saved countless lives and is strength-lo-weight ratio is five times higher than steel. Finally, one of the most important inventions of the 20th Century must surely be the computer programme. The world of programming is unbalanced among men and women, with men taking home around 30% more pay than their female partners on average. But back in the 1940s and 50s, women were at the forefront of this new field and Grace Hopper was one of them. 4.What do we know about the inventions mentioned in the text? A. They were mostly made in the 20th century. B. They all used high technology. C. Their inventors came from families of good education. D. They were all made by accident. 5.Why did Mary Anderson invent windscreen wiper? A. The winter was extremely cold there. B. She was forced to clear the snow by others. C. The car she drove made her suffer a great deal. D. She was sick of the driver getting out to clear the window. 6.Which of the following statements is WRONG according to the text? A. Josephine Cochrane wanted a machine that operated automatically. B. The game invented by Magie was popular merely among teenagers. C. Kevlar is the super tough fibre and stronger than steel. D. Grace Hopper was good at computer programming. 7.What is the best title of this passage? A. Women can be Great Inventors B. The Most Useful Inventions by Women C. The Most Widely Used Technologies D. Women Made Greater Contributions than Men 【答案】 4.A 5.D 6.B 7.A 【解析】 【分析】 试题分析:这是一篇说明文。 由第二段的“Back on a freezing winter’s day in 1902”和第四段的“The dishwasher dates back even earlier to the 19th Century”;第五段的“ One of the most popular board games around, the rules were first drawn up by a lady called Elizabeth Magie, and patented in 1904.以及最后一段的“Finally, one of the most important inventions of the 20th Century must surely be the computer programme.”可知,文章中提到的发明大部分是20世纪发明的。故选A。 5.细节理解题。由第二段的“Each time the door opened, Mary suffered. She had a brainwave: why not make something that could be operated from inside the vehicle? And that’s exactly what she did.”可知,每次司机开门下去擦玻璃,Mary Anderson 都挺受苦,这导致她产生了一个想法:为什么不制造一些可以在车内操作的东西呢?于是她发明了雨刷。故选D。 6.细节理解题。由第四段的“One of the most popular board games around, the rules were first drawn up by a lady called Elizabeth Magie, and patented in 1904.”可知,最受欢迎的棋盘游戏之一 ,最初是由一位名叫Elizabeth Magie的女士起草的,并于1904年获得专利,但并没有说仅受青少年的欢迎。因此推断B项Magie发明的游戏仅受青少年欢迎是错误的。故选B。 7.标题判断题。纵观全文可知,第一段是主题段,由“But you might be hard-pressed to name many female inventors, even though women are behind some of the most widely used technologies in the modern world.”并结合下文的举例可推断,文章主要讲述了一些由女性发明的日用品。因此推断A项“女性可以成为伟大的发明家 ”为最佳标题。故选A。 由“But you might be hard-pressed to name many female inventors, even though women are behind some of the most widely used technologies in the modern world.”并结合下文的举例可推断,文章主要讲述了一些由女性发明的日用品。因此推断A项“女性可以成为伟大的发明家 ”为最佳标题。故选A。 Being mistreated at work can make people take out their negative emotions on loved ones at home. But a new study suggests that getting more exercise and sleep may help people better cope with them by leaving them at work, where they belong. Previous research shows that employees who are looked down on or insulted by colleagues are likely to express their frustrations and behave angrily toward people outside of work, says study co-author Shannon Taylor, a management professor at the University of Central Florida’s College of Business. The new study backs up this idea, but offers a bit of good news as well: Employees who averaged more than 10, 500 steps a day or burned at least 2, 100 calories were less likely to mistreat their families than those who averaged fewer steps or burned fewer calories. The findings also revealed that when employees felt they had a bad night’s sleep because of work issues, they were more likely to be angry at home. “When you’re tired, you are either less able or less motivated to regulate yourself.” says co-author Larissa Barber, a professor of psychology at Northern Illinois University. Physical activity seems to counterbalance poor sleep, Barber says, because it promotes healthy brain functions needed to properly regulate emotions and behaviors. “This study suggests that high amounts of exercise can be at least one way to improve the situations brought by sleep troubles that lead to negative behaviors at home, ” she says. Barber acknowledges that finding time to work out and get a full night’s sleep can be difficult when work pressure is mounting, and that often, job stress can be directly connected to sleep quality. However, she says, making the effort to burn some extra calories and let go of some stress can be worth it. It’s not only good for you, says Taylor, but it can benefit your loved people. 8.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A. Loved people at home. B. Negative emotions. C. Different work pressures. D. More exercise and sleep. 9.Who will most probably behave angrily to family members? A. A person who is easy to get tired. B. A person who is always treated badly by coworkers. C. A person who often goes to the gym to work out. D. A person who often argues with colleagues. 10.The underlined word “counterbalance” in Paragraph 5 probably means . A. make use of B. take control of C. keep up with D. make up for 11.What can we learn from the text? A. The amount of calories employees burn affects the frequency of losing temper. B. How to burn more calories has become a major issue for workers. C. Enough exercise can replace good sleep in dealing with negative behaviors. D. Work pressure makes no difference in sleep quality. 【答案】 8.B 9.B 10.D 11.A 【解析】 【分析】 这是一篇社会生活类的文章。在工作中受到不公平待遇的人会让家里的亲人受到负面情绪的影响。但是一项新的研究表明,多运动和睡眠可以帮助人们更好地处理负面情绪的影响。 8.B 词义猜测题 根据第一段Being mistreated at work can make people take out their negative emotions on loved ones at home.(在工作中受到不公平待遇的人会让家里的亲人受到负面情绪的影响。)But a new study suggests that getting more exercise and sleep may help people better cope with them by leaving them at work, where they belong.(但是一项新的研究表明,多运动和睡眠可以帮助人们更好地处理负面情绪的影响,把消极情绪留在属于它们的地方),由此可知“they”指代的是上文提到的“negative emotions”,故选B。 9.B 细节理解题 根据第二段第一句话Previous research shows that employees who are looked down on or insulted by colleagues are likely to express their frustrations and behave angrily toward people outside of work,﹍可知被同事看不起或者被同事侮辱的人很可能会出现挫败感,对工作以外的人生气,所以一个总是被同事不公平待遇的人很可能会对家庭成员生气,故选B。 10.D 词义猜测题 根据第五段because it promotes healthy brain functions needed to properly regulate emotions and behaviors.(因为身体活动能促进健康的大脑功能),可知,身体活动可以counterbalance睡眠不足,也就是划线单词的意思是“弥补”,故选D。 11.A 推理判断题 根据第三段Employees who averaged more than 10, 500 steps a day or burned at least 2, 100 calories were less likely to mistreat their families than those who averaged fewer steps or burned fewer calories.可知卡路里燃烧的量会影响发脾气的频率,故选A。 We’ve all been there: in a lift, in line at the bank or on an airplane, surrounded by people who are, like us, deeply focused on their smartphones or, worse, struggling with the uncomfortable silence. What’s the problem? It’s possible that we all have compromised conversational intelligence. It’s more likely that none of us start a conversation because it’s awkward and challenging, or we think it’s annoying and unnecessary. But the next time you find yourself among strangers, consider that small talk is worth the trouble. Experts say it’s an invaluable social practice that results in big benefits. Dismissing small talk as unimportant is easy, but we can’t forget that deep relationships wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for casual conversation. Small talk is the grease (润滑剂) for social communication, says Bernardo Carducci, director of the Shyness Research Institute at Indiana University Southeast. “Almost every great love story and each big business deal begins with small talk,” he explains. “The key to successful small talk is learning how to connect with others, not just communicate with them.” In a 2014 study, Elizabeth Dunn, associate professor of psychology at UBC, invited people on their way into a coffee shop. One group was asked to seek out an interaction (互动) with its waiter; the other, to speak only when necessary. The results showed that those who chatted with their server reported significantly higher positive feelings and a better coffee shop experience. “It’s not that talking to the waiter is better than talking to your husband,"says Dunn.” But interactions with peripheral (边缘的) members of our social network matter for our well-being also." Dunn believes that people who reach out to strangers feel a significantly greater sense of belonging, a bond with others. Carducci believes developing such a sense of belonging starts with small talk. “Small talk is the basis of good manners,” he says. 12.What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph? A. Addiction to smartphones. B. Inappropriate behaviours in public places. C. Absence of communication between strangers. D. Impatience with slow service. 13.What is important for successful small talk according to Carducci? A. Showing good manners. B. Relating to other people. C. Focusing on a topic. D. Making business deals. 14.What does the coffee-shop study suggest about small talk? A. It improves family relationships. B. It raises people’s confidence. C. It matters as much as a formal talk. D. It makes people feel good. 15.What is the best title for the text? A. Conversation Counts B. Ways of Making Small Talk C. Benefits of Small Talk D. Uncomfortable Silence 【答案】 12.C 13.B 14.D 15.C 【解析】 【分析】 这是一篇议论文。 根据第三段最后一句“The key to successful small talk is learning how to connect with others, not just communicate with them”(成功闲聊的关键是学习如何与他们交流,而不仅仅是与他们沟通。) Reading These 3 Books Will Change Your Life When Warren Buffett was asked about the secret to his wealth and success, he revealed that he read every day—500 pages, to be precise. 16.
