2018-2019学年山西省吕梁育星中学高一上学期第三次月考英语试卷
2018-2019学年山西省吕梁育星中学高一上学期第三次月考英语试卷 本试卷共150分 第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分60分) 第一节(共15个小题,每小题3分,满分45分) A Last week I talked with some of my students about what they wanted to do after they graduated, and what kind of job prospects they thought they had. Given that I teach students who are training to be doctors, I was surprised to find that most thought that they would not be able to get the jobs they wanted without “outside help”. “What kind of help is that?” I asked, expecting them to tell me that they would need a relative or family friend to help them out. “Surgery(外科手术)”, one replied. I was pretty alarmed by that response. It seems that the graduates of today are increasingly willing to go under the knife to get ahead of others when it comes to getting a job. One girl told me that she was considering surgery to increase her height. “They break your legs, put in special extending screws, and slowly expand the gap between the two ends of the bone as it re-grows, you can get at least 5 cm taller!” At that point, I was shocked. I am short, I can’t deny that, but I don’t think I would put myself through months of agony(痛苦) just to be a few centimeters taller. I don’t even bother to wear shoes with thick soles, as I’m not trying to hide the fact that I am just not tall! It seems to me that there is a trend toward wanting “perfection”, and that is an ideal that just does not exist in reality. No one is born perfect, yet magazines, TV shows and movies present images of thin, tall, beautiful people as being the norm. Advertisements for slimming aids, beauty treatments and cosmetic surgery clinics fill the pages of newspapers, further creating an idea that “perfection” is a requirement, and that it must be purchased, no matter what the cost. In my opinion, skills, rather than appearance, should determine how successful a person is in his chosen career. 1.. We can know from the passage that the author works as ________. A. a doctor B. a model C. a reporter D. a teacher 2. Many graduates today turn to cosmetic surgery to ________. A. get an advantage over others in job-hunt B. become a model C. marry a better manwoman D. attract more admirers 3. According to the passage, the author believes that ________. A. everyone should purchase perfection, whatever the cost B. it’s right for graduates to ask for others to help them out in hunting for jobs C. it is one’s appearance instead of skills that really matters in one’s career D. media are to blame for misleading young people in their seeking for surgery 4. The best title for the passage should be “________”. A. Young Graduates Have Higher Expectation B. Young Graduates Look to Surgery for Better Jobs C. Young Graduates’ Opinion About Cosmetic Surgery D. Young Graduates Face a Different Situation in Job-hunt B Steve knew he'd been adopted as a baby, and when he turned 18, in 2003, he decided he'd try to track down his birth mother. The agency from which he'd been adopted gave him his mother's name, Tallady. But online searches didn’t turn up any results about it, and Steve had to let it go. In 2007, though, he searched for the name again online. This time, the search results included a home address near the Lowe’s store where Steve, then 22, worked as a deliveryman. When he mentioned the coincidence to his boss, his boss said, “You mean Tallady, who works here?” Steve and Tallady, a cashier, had said hello to each other a few times at the store, but they’d never really talked. He hadn’t even known her name. Steve thought there was no possible way she was his mother though they shared the same name. For a few months, Steve avoided Tallady. “I wasn’t sure how to approach her,” he told a local reporter. Finally, the agency volunteered to arrange their reunion. When Tallady realized that the nice guy she’d been waving at was his son, she sobbed. She'd always hoped to meet her birth son one day. Later that day, mother and son talked for almost three hours at a nearby bar. She’d given him up for adoption in 1985, when she was 23. “I wasn't ready to be a mother,” she told him. Married with two other children, Tallady says, “I have a complete family now. ” 5. Steve gave up the online search for his birth mother in 2003 because ______. A. there was no information about his mother B. the agency didn’t give him any help C. his mother didn't respond to him online D. he missed the information about his mother 6. What did Steve find about his mother online in 2007? ______. A. Her home address B. Her full name C. Her boss’s name D. Her new job 7. Why did Steve avoid Tallady for months? A. Because she didn’t want to talk to him. B. Because he was not fully prepared for the reunion. C. Because she was difficult to approach. D. Because he didn’t think she was his mother. 8. Others believe that money buys happiness. I do not agree with either idea. But I do admit that money can make people do strange things. Let me tell you about a person I once knew who liked to play card games for money. He liked to gamble. My friend Bob had a problem because he liked to gamble at all costs. He would play at any time and at any price. To take part in a card game such as poker, my friend would have to ante up. He would have to pay a small amount of money at the beginning of the game. Bob always played with cold, hard cash—only coins and dollar bills. Sometimes my friend would clean up. He would win a lot of money on one card game. He liked to tell me that one day he would break the bank. What a feeling it must be to win all of the money at a gambling table! Other times my friend would simply break even. He neither won nor lost money. But sometimes Bob would lose his shirt. He would lose all the money he had. He took a beating at the gambling table. When this happened, my friend would have to go in the hole. He would go into debt and owe people money. Recently, Bob turned to crime after losing all his money. In his job, he kept the books for a small business. He supervised the records of money earned and spent by the company. Although my friend was usually honest, he decided to cook the books. He illegally changed the financial records of the company. This permitted him to make a fast buck. My friend made some quick, easy money dishonestly. I never thought Bob would have sticky fingers. He did not seem like a thief who would steal money. But, some people will do anything for love of money. Bob used the money he stole from his company to gamble again. This time, he cashed in. He made a lot of money. Quickly he was back on his feet. He had returned to good financial health. His company, however, ended up in the red. It lost more money than it earned. The company was no longer profitable. It did not take long before my friend’s dishonesty was discovered. The company investigated and charged him with stealing. Bob tried to pass the buck. He tried to blame someone else for the deficit. His lie did not work, however. He ended up in jail. Today, I would bet my bottom dollar that my friend will never gamble again. I would bet all I have that he learned his lesson about gambling. If you want knowledge, you must toil for it. 13. What was Bob’s problem? A. . He had spent all his money. B. He used the money he stole from his company to gamble. C. He liked to gamble at all costs. D. He was robbed and ended up with nothing. 14. When the writer says “my friend would have to ante up”, he means Bob would give money . A. Willingly B. with great pleasure C. with much expectation D. unwillingly 15. Why did Bob end up in jail? A. He robbed the bank. B. He stole money from others. C. He gambled. D. He stole money from his company to gamble. 第二节(共5个小题,每小题3分,满分15分) Advice About Stress: Don’t Let It Ruin Your Life! But to achieve this goal, there is a long way to go, because there are still many smokers who continue to smoke in indoor public places. The first reason for the problem, I think, is that we haven’t made the smoking ban known to the public. In fact, many people don’t know about the ban at all. Secondly, those who smoke in indoor public places aren’t punished enough. So they would rather smoke than follow the rule. In my opinion, on the one hand, we should let more people know about the ban; on the other hand, we should punish smokers who don’t obey the rule harder. 查看更多
