That’s more or less what happened the night that Nashville Police Officer Floyd Hyde was on duty. “I was on the way to a personal-injury accident in West Nashville. As I got onto Highway 40, blue lights and sirens(警笛)going, I fell in behind a gold Pontiac Firebird that suddenly seemed to take off quickly down the highway. The driver somehow panicked at the sight of me. He was going more than a hundred miles an hour and began passing cars on the shoulder. ” But Hyde couldn’t go after him. Taking care of injured people is always more important than worrying about speeders, so the officer had to stay on his way to the accident. But he did try to keep the Firebird in sight as he drove, hoping another nearby unit would be able to step in and stop the speeding car. As it turned out, keeping the Firebird in sight was not that difficult. Every turn the Pontiac made was the very turn the officer needed to get to the accident scene. Hyde followed the Pontiac all the way to his destination (目的地). At that point he found another unit had already arrived at the accident scene. His help wasn’t needed. Now he was free to try to stop the driver of the Firebird, who by this time had developed something new to panic about. “Just about that time, ”Hyde says, “I saw fire coming out from under that car, with blue smoke and oil going everywhere. He’d blown his engine. Now he had to stop. ” “After I arrested him, I asked him why he was running. He told me he didn’t have a driver’s license(执照). ” That accident cost the driver of the Firebird plenty-a thousand dollars for the new engine- not to mention the charges for driving without a license, attempting to run away, and dangerous driving. 21. The meaning of“panicked”in Paragraph 2 is related to _____. A. shame B. hate C. fear D. anger 22. Why did the driver of the Firebird suddenly speed down the highway? A. Because he was racing with another driver on the road. B. Because he thought the police officer wanted to stop him. C. Because he realized he had to hurry to the accident scene. D. Because he wanted to overtake other cars on the shoulder. 23. The driver of the Firebird ______. A. took a wrong turn on the way B. paid for the expenses of the accident C. was stopped by the police officer D. had some trouble with his car 24. What is probably the best title for the article? A. Losing His Way? B. Fun All the Way? C. Going My Way? D. Help on the Way? B Inside Out is one of my favorite Disney movies. The story is about a young girl named Riley who moves from Minnesota to San Francisco with her family and how she deals with her emotions through the move. These five emotions in Riley’s brain are Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust (厌恶) and Sadness. These emotions play a very important role in her life. I can relate because I am an 11-year-old girl and I am very in touch with my emotions and pre-teen feelings. The film is extremely beautiful and you couldn’t ask for better direction from Pete Doctor. The use of the right colors for the characters is great. For example, Joy is yellow, Sadness is blue,Disgust is green, Fear is purple and Anger of course is red. Sadness plays a main role in the story and it makes me wonder why we are told not to be sad. I think it is important to be sad when the time comes. The end of the movie pretty much got me and the whole audience (families, couples and even elderly people) in tears and I cried very hard. I recommend (推荐) this movie to anyone from 8 to 18 because it has enough joy in it for younger kids to like it even though it does have some sad moments. I believe that adults will like it too. And I give it 4 out of 5 stars because it connects to an older audience even though it is designed for a younger audience. I think younger children can see this, but a parent would have to explain some things to them after the movie. 25. The author feels connected with the movie because she and the character Riley______. A. enjoy the same movie B. have the same move experience C. have the same feelings D. have a similar family background 26. After seeing the movie, the author has a new understanding of ___________. A. fear B. joy C. anger D. sadness 27. In the author’s eyes, the movie _____. A. won’t attract people over 18 B. is really unsuitable for children C. can easily be understood by younger kids D. will be popular among kids and adults C By the end of last year, a British woman had failed her driving theory(理论) test 110 times. But the woman is not giving up just yet. It is hard to believe that the 30-year-old, from Southwark, southeast London, has failed the test three times — taking her total number of unsuccessful attempts(尝试)to a record 113. This year, the price of the test was lowered from £31 a time to£25. Amazingly, if she had started sitting the exam at the age of 17, she would have sat it more than eight times a year for the past 13 years. Although no other learner has come close to the woman’s number of attempts to pass her driving theory test, several seem to be trying their best. A 30-year-old man from Peterborough has failed the theory test 86 times. A 27-year-old man from Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and a 39-year-old man from London have both failed their 66th attempt to pass the exam this year. And a 47-year-old man from Reading has struggled through 61 tests without any luck. Research shows that although men are said to be around six percent more likely to pass the practical(实践的)driving test than women, they are six percent less likely to pass their theory test. Even when learners manage to pass the theory test, some still struggle to master the practical exam and have to spend a lot of money on it. For example, one middle-aged man forked out at least£2,294 sitting the practical driving test — a record of 36 times before, thankfully, passing at his 37th attempt. The practical driving test, which lasts about 40 minutes, costs£62 to take on a weekday or£75 on an evening, weekend or holiday. It is generally considered more difficult than the theory test. 28. How much has the woman spent on her driving theory test? A.£2,825 B.£3,410 C.£3,503 D.£3,485 29. We can learn from the research that ________. A. men do better when it comes to driving vehicles B. women can pass the driving theory test easily C. women drivers are often very dangerous D. more and more people cannot afford a driving test 30. The underlined words “forked out” in the last paragraph can best be replaced by “____”. A. won B. found C. spent D. saved 31. What is the text mainly about? A. Where to learn driving. B. How to pass a driving test. C. Slow learner drivers in Britain. D. Strict driving rules in Britain. D For centuries, people have wondered about the strange things that they dream about. Some psychologists(心理学家) say that this nighttime activity of the mind has no special meaning. Others, however, think that dreams are an important part of our lives. In fact, many experts believe that dreams can tell us about a person's mind and emotions. Before modern times, many people thought that dreams contained messages from God. It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams in a scientific way. The Austrian psychologist, Sigmund Freud, was probably the first person to study dreams scientifically. He believed that dreams allow people to express the feelings, thoughts, and fears that they are afraid to express in real life. The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, once a student of Freud' s. Jung, however, believed that the purpose of a dream was to communicate a message to the dreamer. He thought people could learn more about themselves by thinking about their dreams. For example, people who dream about falling may learn that they have too high an opinion of themselves. On the other hand, people who dream about being heroes may learn that they think too little of themselves. Modern-day psychologists continue to develop theories about dreams. For example, psychologist William Domhoff from UCSC (the University of California, Santa Cruz), believes that dreaming is a mental (精神的) skill that needs time to develop. His research shows that children do not dream as much as adults. Another psychologist Adam Schneider, also from UCSC, has found that the dreams of men and women are different. For example, the people in men’s dreams are often other men, and the dreams often involve fighting. This is not true of women's dreams. Can dreams help us understand ourselves? Psychologists continue to try to answer this question in different ways. However, one thing they agree on is this: If you dream that something terrible is going to occur, you shouldn't panic. The dream may have meaning, but it does not mean that some terrible event will actually take place. 32. Before the 1900s, ______. A. there were no scientific studies of dreams B. people considered dreams meaningless C. psychologists had no idea about dreams D. dreams were thought to happen only at night 33. We can infer from Carl Jung’s research that _______. A. dreams are an expression of a person’s wishes B. he disagreed with Freud’s idea about dreams C. he proved that Freud’s idea about dreams was true D. how people think of themselves is affected by their dreams 34. Who found a connection between dreams and age? A. Carl Jung B. Sigmund Freud C. William Domhoff D. Adam Schneider 35. What’s the best title for the text? A. Are Dreams Real? B. What’s a Dream? C. Famous Dream Psychologists D. Dreams’ Influences on People’s Life 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to stay focused in class 36 No matter how much you want to sit with your friends during the class, try your best to avoid them. Talking with friends is not going to help you stay focused in class and will cause trouble, too. Look at the teacher. Your teacher is not just standing up there talking — they’re trying to give you an acceptable education. Show the teacher that he or she has your full attention, by looking at him or her in the eye. 37 Take notes. By taking notes, you’ll be able to “get into” the lesson. 38 Listen for key phrases such as, “This is important,” “This is the main idea,” etc. This can help you listen more intently (专心地); you’ll have something to do and focus on. Get involved in class discussions. This is a wonderful way to become a more focused, successful student. When a teacher asks a question, offer to answer it. 39 This shows the teacher that you’re listening intently during the class. Ask a question. 40 This really shows your teacher that you want to be better, and canrecognize the things you’re having difficulty with. Chances are that someone else in the class has the same question (and is too afraid to ask!). They’ll be relaxed — and so will you. A. Do your best. B. Don’t try to finish your old notes in class. C. Avoid sitting with friends. D. If he or she asks for an opinion, share your own. E. Write down key points as your teacher speaks. F. If you don’t understand something, never be afraid to ask. G. This person should have your full attention at all times in class. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 During the war, my husband was stationed at an army camp in a desert in California. As for this question, opinions are divided. A majority of students think music should be played during the class break. Their reasons are as follows. In the first place, music can create a lively and relaxing atmosphere. In addition, music provides us with relaxation after a forty-minute class, which can reduce our stress and tiredness. Last but not least, listening to music can help improve our learning efficiency. However, the rest of the students are strongly against it. In their point of view, they can’t get the expected result by listening to music at all, as the break between classes is too short. What’s more, what they need most after class is peace rather than noise. As far as I am concerned, listening to music during breaks is relaxing. However, choosing the right music suitable for the students and the exact time matters more. 查看更多
