The Robot Activity Support System, or RAS, uses sensors (传感器) equipped in a WSU smart home to determine where its residents are, what they are doing and when they need assistance with daily activities. It navigates (定位) through rooms and around obstacles to find people on its own, provides video instruction on how to do simple tasks and can even lead its owners to objects like their medication or a snack in the kitchen. “RAS combines the convenience of a mobile robot with the activity detection technology of a WSU smart home to provide assistance in the moment, as the need for help is detected,” said Bryan Minor, a postdoctoral researcher in the WSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Currently, about 50 percent adults over the age of 85 need assistance with everyday activities such as preparing meals and taking medication and the annual cost for this assistance in the US is nearby $2 trillion. With the number of adults over 85 expected to triple by 2050, researchers hope that technologies like RAS and the WSU smart home will relieve some of the financial pressure on the healthcare system by making it easier for older adults to live alone. RAS is the first robot researchers have tried to apply to their smart home environment. They recently published a study in the journal Cognitive Systems Research that shown how RAS could make life easier for older adults struggling to live independently. “While we are still in an early stage of development, our initial results with RAS have been promising,” Minor said. “The next step in the research will be to test RAS’s performance with a group of older adults to get a better data of what video reminders and other performances they have regarding the robot.” 24. What plays a key role in RAS serving the elderly? A. Sensors B. Videos. C. Signal lights D. Head size 25. What can we learn about RAS? A. It is the first robot used in daily life. B. Its function remains to be tested. C. It can locate people and do any task. D. It can cook for owners on its own. 26. What’s Minor’s attitude toward the future of RAS? A. Doubtful B. Negative C. Optimistic D. Uncertain 27. What would be a suitable title for the text? A. Elderly People Leave the Nursing Home. B. Smart Home Tests First Elder Care Robot C. RAS, the First Robot to Make Home Smart. D. Older Adults Have Benefited from RAS a Lot C Slowly but surely, we’re moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smart-home security to self-driving cars, all the internet-connected devices in our life will be able to talk to each other at lighting-fast speeds with reduced delay. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the US top out at an average of 19.42Mbps. But by comparison 5G promises gigabit (千兆) speeds. “5G is one of those heralds (使者), along with artificial intelligence, of this coming data age,” said Steve Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. “The self-driving vehicle is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one single task, driving, you have massive amounts of coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors are collecting a lost of information to model its environments as it moves. It’s pulling in date from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane. It could be weather information, and also connected infrastructure (基础设施) constructors. There’s lots of data behind that task, which is why we need the high speed. And virtual reality glasses and headsets haven’t yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting that these devices will eventually replace our smartphones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist --- or even replace --- smartphones. Ericsson stated at February’s Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could reply on hardware for processing power. But don’t get to excited. There’s still a lot of work to be down in the meantime, including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn’t concentrated only in big cities. 28. What is the first paragraph mainly about? A. A right security of 5G. B. The super speed of 5G. C. A potential dream of 5G. D. The present world of 5G. 29. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “emblem” in paragraph 2? A. exhibition B. explanation C. sponsor D. symbol 30. What do some tech companies expect of virtual reality glasses? A. They will be heavier than present ones. B. They will process power on their own C. They will serve people instead of smartphones. D. They will bring a big fortune to teach companies. 31. What will the author tell us in the next paragraph? A. How to fully expand 5G coverage. B. How to effectively reduce 5G trials. C. How to nicely operate 5G hardware. D. How to widely construct 5G big cities. D From Madrid to Buenos Aires to Panama City to Lisbon, President Xi Jinping has tirelessly promoted the building of a community of shared future for mankind, and the Belt and Road Initiative (倡议)as a means to achieve that. But not everyone sees it that way. While some countries have been quick to see the positive potentials ,others insist on viewing it skeptical. There have been the usual doubts from the intention behind . Although the mysterious threat they speak of is one that they seem unable to explain clearly. To some of them, it is a uncertain assumption that investments from China are potential "debt traps" that call for extreme caution or "threats to national security". That is why the business combinations involving Chinese companies which would be mutually (相互地)beneficial have hit the rocks. The Chinese telecommunications technology giant Huawei, for instance, has found the doors to the 5G telecommunications markets of advanced countries closed to it on "national security" grounds. Likewise, the European Union has agreed a framework regulating foreign investment(投资), particularly those from China, due to the same reason. Even as Chinese and Portuguese leaders discuss bilateral(双边的) cooperation under the Belt and Road, there is no lack of concern about "China's influence". But existing EU rules do not forbid Lisbon from seeking such a partnership. If Lisbon sees no harm from foreign investment, no outsider is in a position to prevent it from making a choice in its own best interests. Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa has reminded EU decision-makers of his country's desire for foreign investment, and advised the latter to avoid taking "the path of protectionism". It was a timely reminder. Facing the challenges in today's world, China and the countries that have hugged the Belt and Road are convinced it is the way to common development and the world’s lasting peace and stability 32. Some countries that hold a negative attitude toward the Initiative mainly doubt its__________. A. intention B mystery C power D potential . 33. What does the underlined part "hit the rocks" in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Fallen into a trap B. Become a hit C. Made a difference D. Failed to work out 34. It can be learned from the passage that________ A. Huawei has caused serious security problems abroad B. the Belt and Road Initiative has gained much popularity for "China's influence" C. the EU will take relative strict measures on Chinese investment. D. China's investment in Portugal has been extremely smooth 35. What is the author's towards Portuguese Prime Minister's advice? A. Negative B. Positive C. Doubtful D. Unclear 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Get Help When You Need It Sometimes even though you are paying attention in class, studying for tests, and doing your homework, certain classes seem too hard. What upsets many people is that they work harder and harder as they fall further and further behind. 36 If you need extra help, the most important thing to know is that there is nothing embarrassing about it. No one is expected to understand everything, and people have very different learning styles. 37 He or she may be able to work with you before or after school and explain things more clearly. You might also be able to get some help from another student. If there’s someone you like who’s a good student, think about asking that person if you can study together. This might help. 38 Lots of people understand something perfectly without being able to explain it. Another option for extra help is a tutor, either after school, on weekends, or in the evening. You’ll need to talk to an adult about this because it costs money to hire a tutor. Tutors sometimes come to your home, but there are also tutoring centers across the country. A tutor may have broad knowledge of many things or may be trained just one subject. 39 The advantage of having a tutor is that it gives you the opportunity to ask questions directly and work at your own pace. If you're interested in a tutor, check the Internet or the yellow pages of your phone book, or get a referral from a teacher, a friend, or a classmate who has a tutor. 40 Often college students will tutor high school students in their areas of study to help cover the costs of school. A. Sometimes people put off study. B. The first place to turn for help is your teacher. C. Good study techniques begin in the classroom as you take notes. D. Naturally, this makes them hate a class and everything to do with it. E. However, keep in mind that this might not get you the results you need. F. And if you live in or near a town with a college or university, you may find tutors there. G. Tutors work with you one on one, helping review and further explain things taught in the classroom. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,掌握大意,从各题所给的四个选项A,B,C,D,中选出最佳选项,并填在答题卡上。 Greenberg was a lucky guy to enter Columbia University on full scholarship. In the morning or after dinner, people, especially elderly women, will gather in squares to dance to popular music. More and more young people are also joining in now. There are many reasons behind its popularity. First of all,China has made great progress in its social and economical development in the past decades, and people have more time and energy to enjoy themselves. Besides, doing the square dance is a good way for people to keep fit. However, just as each coin has two sides, this kind of dance has also leads to some problems. For example, dancers play loud music and occupy lots of public places, which annoy many other people.Maybe square dancers need to make some changes. Yours, LiHua查看更多
