After a couple of years, I began wondering why I didn't have any savings. Things had to change. It was then that I opened a bank account. Even saving just a tiny amount each month can make quite a difference, so my advice would be for children like me to open an account and start saving. Jamie My advice is “be strict and know what you're spending”. I keep a budget so that I know exactly how much money I can spend on clothes, how much on going out with my friends and how much I need to save. I now work at the weekend, so I don't have to ask my parents for pocket money. Laura I always get pocket money from my parents. I would buy a coffee here or a sandwich there, and even though that only means two or three pounds a time, it soon increases in amount. One day I made a list of all the things I'd bought that week and it really surprised me. I'd spent 30 pounds on, well, nothing really! If I could give anyone advice, I would tell them to always ask themselves, “Do I really need this?” Olivia My dad lost his job recently, so my pocket money stopped. Now I'm doing a part-time job on Tuesdays and Fridays. It isn't a lot, but it is enough. Not only have I become more responsible about money and how I spend it, but I feel good that I'm working for it and not just relying on my parents. My advice to anyone is not to expect money to always be there and make sure you save enough for a rainy day. 21. According to the text, Megan _____. Laura borrowed from her friends 23. Both Jamie and Olivia _____. A. have a part-time job B. get a lot of pocket money C. have opened a bank account D. spend a lot on clothes 24. The text is mainly about _____. A. making money B. borrowing money C. raising money D. managing money B When a golfer plays on any golf course, he or she expects the course has a lot of hazards like sands, woods, and ponds of water. There is one special golf course, though, where along with these hazards that stand still, the player must expect to compete against hundreds of moving hazards. The golf course is on Christmas Island. The island is an area of Australia in the Indian Ocean, the third largest ocean in the world, lying between Africa and Australia. The moving hazards are bright red, four-and-one-half-inch (11.4cm) crabs. Over 150 million of these brightly colored crabs live in the island's rainforests. Every year, starting around November, the crabs migrate. They leave the rainforest and make their way to the ocean. They arrive at the coast after one to three weeks. But the males return to the rainforest earlier than the females, who return about two weeks later after producing up to 100,000 eggs. On Christmas Island there is a golf course built on the crabs' migration route. During the migration season, there are hundreds of red crabs moving on the course. The rules of the Christmas Island Golf Club say that all players must treat the crabs as they would treat any other hazard. They cannot move them, and they must play around them. If a walking crab happens to knock a ball while it is on the green, hitting it into a hole, the ball is considered “in”. Just as the golfers must compete against a moving hazard, so must the crabs. People have built roads that run through the crabs' migration route. Unluckily, up to two million crabs are killed by passing vehicles every year. People are trying to reduce the number by putting up “Crab Crossing” signs and closing certain roads during the migration season. 25. What do we learn about the red crabs? A. They arrive in the rainforest in November. B. They spend most of their year in the ocean. C. The females spend two more weeks on the coast. D. The males start to migrate earlier than the females. 26. The rules of the Christmas Island Golf Club _____. A. attract more golf players B. can help protect the crabs C. often make golfers confused D. cause the crabs much trouble 27. By saying “Just as the golfers ... so must the crabs”, the author means _____. A. the crabs must face danger on the road B. the crabs are quite perfect moving hazards C. golfers like competing against moving hazards D. golfers find it hard to play on Christmas Island 28. Which can be the best title for the text? A. Christmas Island B. Great Migration C. Crab Crossing D. Crab Hazards C Venom from a local scorpion in Cuba is being used by Cuban scientists as an effective weapon to fight cancer. The venom, with stopping pain, anti-inflammatory (炎症) and anti-cancer properties, is the active ingredient in the medicine “Vidatox 30 CH which can be used to treat liver, brain, lung and other cancers. The treatment has been successfully used for more than four years in humans after being first tested in biological models. Labiofam, a Cuban laboratory, has breeding centers for both the Red Scorpion and Blue Scorpion. Each month, some 30,000 scorpions in Las Minas town, 270 km east of Havana are made to give the venom. After two years, the scorpions are released back into their natural habitat. Denyer Sanchez, a biologist from Labiofam, explained that the conditions are adjusted for reproduction, proved by the high number of breeding female scorpions. He said when the offspring(后代)becomes able to live in the environment, we release them because they do not have the necessary size yet to remove their venom, said Sanchez. Sanchez also said that there is still much to research on the exploitation process of scorpions, such as female death rate or the ability to survive of the released scorpions. Cuban research on the scorpion’s venom began at the end of 1980s in Guantanamo province, the island’s eastern tip, where a group of biologists and doctors became interested in the stories told by the peasants about the venom's benefits. However, the first discovery was made by Cuban biologist Misael Bordier. In 2001, Bordier visited Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM) and presented the research progress in a professional journal. Bordier died in 2005, one year before Cuba's Industrial Property Office gave Labiofam the rights to exploit the patent related to the venom. 29. How are the scorpions dealt with after their venom has been taken for two years? A. Their bodies are used to make medicines. B. They are bred in the laboratory for research. C. They are raised to give birth to the offspring. D. They are set free into their natural habitat. 30. What can we infer from the passage about the research on scorpions? A. The UN provided fund for the research team. B. There is still much to study in detail. C. The achievements will benefit animals. D. Many scientists doubt about the result of the research. 31. What can we learn about Bordier in the last paragraph? A. He was given the rights to exploit the patent. B. He began his research at the beginning of the twenty-first century. C. He put forward the research progress in a professional journal. D. He was a peasant who told the stories about the venom’s benefits. 32. What does this passage mainly talk about? A. The various uses of scorpions in Cuba. B. Cuban biologists’ research on strange diseases. C. Suitable conditions for Cuban scorpions to breed. D. Cuban scorpion venom’s effect on fighting cancer. D A Spanish company Siesta&Go has opened the first public napping space in Madrid. It promises people a quiet rest in the middle of the city’s business center. Napping spaces are nothing new. Places to rest are already set up in other big cities in the world. But the idea would appear to work well with the culture of Spain, where people traditionally take an afternoon nap, called siesta. The Madrid nap space recently opened with 19 beds. People can use them by the minute or by the hour, and they can also choose either a private or shared room. An hour of napping inside a private room costs about $15. Siesta &Go provides all bedding, clean nightshirts and other materials. Nippers can request to be woken up when their time is up. It also offers areas to work, with armchairs, newspapers and coffee for those not wishing to sleep. Philip &Go is one happy customer. Marco says he gets tired during the day because of hard work. He says a siesta is the perfect way to build up energy. “I come for about 30 minutes or something like that. That is usually enough for me to be full of energy.” While many Spanish people love their naps, others like Carlos Villarroja say they are just too busy to keep the tradition. “It’s a Spanish tradition, but I think it’s more of a legend than a tradition. Because of the lifestyle and the working hours, we have very little free time for a siesta at least during the week.” But many health experts believe there is evidence that taking a short nap can be very good for the body and mind. Scientific studies show that taking a siesta can also prevent illness and lower blood pressure. 33. What is not allowed for customers to do? A. Sleep for free B. Choose a private room C. Use it as an office D. Share a room with others 34. What does Philip Marco think of the Madrid nap space? A. Costly. B. Helpful. C. Comfortable. D. Convenient. 35. What’s Carlos Villarroja’s opinion on siestas? A. It is not necessary to take a nap. B. They can treat high blood pleasure. C. People have no time to take a nap. D. It’s not true that Spanish people like naps. 第二节 (共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Good Jobs for Sports If sports are something that appeals to you, it stands to reason that you would do well in them. Yours, Grace 第二节 书面表达 (满25分) Dear Henry, Sorry to hear that you have been sick for days and hope you are better now. You have studied so hard that you have had no time to do any exercise, which does harm to your physical and mental health. It would be of great benefit to your health if you could squeeze some time to take more exercise in future, for example, jogging and playing basketball. Time spent in exercise is wasted. Actually, exercise can improve your physical conditions and ease your mind. Only when you are in good health can you carry on studying and increase your study efficiency. Therefore, I suggested that you take at least one hour’s exercise every day. I would be very pleased to see you have a stronger body. Sincerely yours, Li Hua 【听力材料】 Text 1 W: I went to Canada to see my son last year. I stayed there for two days. Have you ever been there? M: Yes, I went to Quebec five years ago, on vacation. That comes with salad, doesn't it? That's all. Text 6 W: I hope we'll have a good flight. M: So do I.I don't like flying. W: Are you going on holiday? M: No,I'm traveling on business. I work for a computer company, and you? W: I'm a professor. I'm going to give a lecture this afternoon. I hope the flight won't be late. Text 7 M: Hi, Laura. How is everything? W: Fine. You know I'm expecting a baby. M: Really? I'm glad to hear that. W: So with a baby coming, my husband and I are thinking of having our own place to live in. We don't think it would be a good idea to live together with his parents any longer. M: I agree. Do you plan to rent or to buy a house? W: To buy one. We want to buy a small house.[] M: OK. Let me show you some pictures of houses. Here, there's a lovely two-bedroom house. How is that? W: It looks wonderful. I like this small house. Text 8 W: Dear, what are you doing? And we're going to use fruit that is easily available locally. Our production process is very simple too. W: OK, what is your market? M: So far most of our customers have been young people. And we're going to try to strengthen that market. W: OK, what kind of marketing have you done? Advertise on TV? M: A friend of mine has designed a great website for us, and I think we're going to focus on the Internet for the moment. Text 10 When I was in college, I spent a term studying in London. Even though we speak the same language, English people and Americans are very different. I guess that Americans have a bad name. People think that we're loud and that we speak our minds too much. So I tried to listen a bit more and not be so self-centered. I love the lifestyle there. Going out for afternoon tea was fun, and I always did that with my friends. And I really loved the old buildings. We don't have anything that old in the United States, so it was pretty amazing! By the way, I also went to Australia once. The buildings there weren't so attractive either. The British also have a different sense of humor. Their comedy shows on TV are really funny. I'd have to say my experience was a positive one. In fact, I'm saving up money so I can go back there again.查看更多
