I used to be a critical person and tried to find faults. I guess I somehow inherited this character from my father. Actually many good qualities of my father are worth admiring except this. My father is the person who constantly looks for mistakes in other people and he thinks no one is perfect in the world. His character created a negative atmosphere in my family. I was the same as my father, so I often felt angry, disappointed, depressed, and lonely in school. After I had read my favorite book I began to seek “good things” in other people. It has completely altered my life. Now I feel happier, I have more friends, I have more trust in people, and I realize everyone has their own strength! Another important lesson I got from this book is that I should always behave myself in a positive manner. Let's admit that we sometimes complain about our situation. That's not good. “Believe it or not, people don't like to listen to negative opinions.” One more valuable lesson I got from the book is that I should be a good listener. When I was younger, I only wanted people to pay whole attention to my words so that I could show them how important I was. I was very proud and would show off my achievements in school without considering others' feelings. I had very few friends and most people considered me as an arrogant person. Now, I find it much easier to make friends after making some changes! 4.Why does the author like the book The Secret? A.Because he's found the secret of success from it. B.Because the book uncovers the secrets of happiness. C.Because he's learnt his father's character from it. D.Because it helps him change his attitude towards life. 根据文章第三段中的“After I had read my favorite book I began to seek ‘good things’ in other people”和“Another important lesson I got from this book is that I should always behave myself in a positive manner”和第四段中的“One more valuable lesson I got from the book is that I should be a good listener”可知,《秘密》这本书改变了作者的人生态度,故选D项。 5.What do you know about the author's father? A.He makes his son feel angry and disappointed. B.He likes finding faults with people around him. C.He seems a critical person but in fact is easygoing. D.He can create a negative atmosphere when necessary. 根据第二段中的“My father is the person who constantly looks for mistakes in other people and he thinks no one is perfect in the world”可知,作者的父亲是一个不停地寻找别人错误的人,他认为世界上没有人是完美的,故B项正确。 6.The underlined word “arrogant” in the last paragraph probably means “________”. A.selfimportant B.admirable C.troublesome D.coldblooded 解析:选A 词义猜测题。根据画线词前的“When I was younger ... I was very proud and would show off my achievements in school without considering others' feelings”可知,作者以前为了能够表明自己是多么重要,只希望人们全神贯注于自己说的话。 7.What is the author's purpose in writing the text? A.To persuade readers to be good listeners. B.To share his painful changing experience. C.To tell readers the influence of a book on him. D.To show the result of his father's negative character. C (2019·福州四校联考)Have you ever felt so tired after staying up for a night that even coffee doesn't give you the energy that you need? You may have an energy drink, but the benefits of drinking one are heavily outweighed by the risks. In the past years, more and more studies have found the deadly effects of energy drinks on your bodies. The sugar, caffeine and energy supplements (添加物) in energy drinks make up a deadly mixture of ingredients that can affect your heart function and send you to the hospital! A study by the University of Bonn, Germany found that frequent consumption of energy drinks can greatly change the way your heart functions. The study went on to say that consuming energy drinks often causes significantly increased heart contractions (收缩) in adults, which has the potential of putting you at risk of irregular heartbeats. It is possible that many people are unaware of the alarming side effects of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled. Most energy drinks contain between 80 milligrams to over 350 milligrams of caffeine, sugar and energy supplements. When an energy drink is marketed as a diet supplement it may be distributed without a “nutrition facts” label, which would show the harmful supplements that are in the drink. However, even if energy drinks are Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved, they don't have to show the number of supplements. Energy drinks may be widely available but they aren't the healthiest or safest choice for your body. Stay naturally energized, get organized and stay on top of your work so that you don't have to stay up all night to complete assigned tasks. If you'd like a natural energy boost, you could make time for a short workout, which will give you all of the energy you need! 8. Which of the following is the side effect of the energy drinks? A.Making people thinner. B.Making people's heart bigger. C.Making people run a risk of falling ill. D.Making people suffer from heart attacks. 根据第二段第二句“The sugar, caffeine and energy supplements ...can affect your heart function and send you to the hospital”可知,能量饮料中的糖、咖啡因和能量添加物合起来构成有危害的成分混合物,影响你的心脏功能且对身体有害,所以能量饮料的副作用是会使人们有生病的风险。 9.Why are many people unaware of the harmful effects of energy drinks? A.Because the harmful materials are not labelled. B.Because FDA thinks they are healthy drinks. C.Because they don't read the label carefully. D.Because factories of energy drinks lie to drinkers. 10.What is the last paragraph mainly about? A.The effects of energy drinks. B.The benefits of doing exercise. C.The better choice of right drinks. D.The way to have enough energy. 11.What is the main idea of the text? A.Don't drink energy drinks. B.Many people enjoy energy drinks. C.The materials that energy drinks contain are harmless. D.Energy drinks could send you to hospital. 根据全文内容,尤其是第一段中的“You may have an energy drink, but the benefits of drinking one are heavily outweighed by the risks”及最后一段“Energy drinks may be widely available but they aren't the healthiest or safest choice for your body”可知,本文讲了能量饮料的害处大于益处,但没有完全否定能量饮料,故排除A项,选D项。 D (2019·广州调研)Petrol and diesel cars may still dominate our roads, but their days are numbered. A recent university study found that current electric cars could be used for 87 per cent of daily car journeys in the US. That figure could rise to 98 per cent by 2020. One hurdle to the widespread adoption of electric cars has been “range anxiety” — drivers' concerns about running out of juice on a journey. While petrol stations are conveniently located across national road systems, the necessary network of electric charging stations is still being developed. That said, charging points are becoming increasingly common throughout the USA. Attitudes towards electric vehicles have changed quite considerably over the last few years. Not that long ago, electric cars were met with distrust, and their large price tags drove customers away. Thanks to improvements in battery capacity, recharging times, performance and price, the current generation of electric cars is starting to persuade critics. Plugin cars will soon give internal combustion engine models a run for their money. As well as advancements on the road, electric vehicles are taking to the seas and skies. Electric boats are among the oldest methods of electric travel, having enjoyed several decades of popularity from the late 19th to the early 20th century before petrolpowered outboard motors took over. Now, the global drive for renewable energy sources is bringing electric boats back. Steps towards electric air travel are also being made, with Airbus and NASA among the organizations developing and testing battery powered planes. The experiments could soon make commercial electric flight a reality. Electric vehicles do not produce any emissions. Were the US to act on the study's findings and replace 87 per cent of its cars with electric vehicles, it would reduce the national demand for petrol by 61 per cent. However, because of the production processes and the generation of electricity required to charge these vehicles, they cannot claim to be completely emissionfree. That said, as many countries continue to increase their use of renewable energy sources, electric vehicles will become even cleaner. 12.Which is the best title for this passage? A.They were not good value. B.They were very poorly made. C.They were not widely promoted. D.They couldn't travel at a high speed. 根据第三段中的“Not that long ago, electric cars were met with distrust, and their large price tags drove customers away”可知,人们是被当时这种电动汽车的价格吓跑的;根据该段中的“Thanks to improvements in battery capacity, recharging times, performance and price, the current generation of electric cars is starting to persuade critics”可知,随着电池容量的增大、可充电次数的增加、汽车性能的改善和价格的优化,这一代电动汽车已经开始吸引消费者购买了。 故选A项。 15.What is the function of Paragraph 4? A.To introduce the history of electric travel. B.To explain why the world needs more electric cars. C.To show why more people have interest in electric cars. D.To describe different ways electric vehicles can be used. 根据第四段中的“electric vehicles are taking to the seas and skies”可知,除了在公路上,其他地方也可以使用电动交通工具。故选D项。 Ⅱ.阅读七选五 (2019·郑州质检)Helen Keller once wrote, “The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.” __16__ The UN has set December 5 as International Volunteer Day to give recognition to these people.
