A new study has found that ride-sharing services result in much more pollution than other kinds of private and public transportation. Ride-sharing trips also draw passengers away from more environment friendly methods of travel, like public transportation, walking or biking, the study found. Several studies in recent years have suggested that ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft can worsen traffic problems in cities. The new study represents an attempt to center on how ride-sharing services affect pollution. Overall, the researchers reported that ride-sharing trips now "result in a 69 percent more climate pollution on average than the trips they replace." The study notes that the same passengers could have chosen to travel by bus, train, bike or on foot. One of the big reasons they give for this result is that ride-sharing vehicles are often driven with no passengers in the car. This happens when drivers are either waiting for rider requests, are on the way to pick up passengers. This situation, known as "deadheading," takes up about 42 percent of all ride-sharing driving activity, the study found. The researchers said that deadheading results in about 50 percent more carbon dioxide than one person driving in a private vehicle. Both Uber and Lyft have said in the past that most studies on the subject overstate (夸大)the effects of their services on pollution. Uber told Reuters news agency in a statement it had no comment on the latest report and that the study made misleading claims about ride-sharing. Meanwhile, the company said it would work directly with cities to address climate changes, promoting sharing trips and other means of transportation. 24. Which of the following is the best title of the passage? A. Ride-sharing becomes a new trend that can’t be avoided. B. Ride-sharing industry is met with criticism. C. Ride-sharing services increase pollution. D. Ride-sharing services need improvement. 25. The term “deadheading” in the passage refers to ________. A. a driving process where the driver is not carrying passengers B. a potential risk that the driver may lose control of the vehicle C. a period of driving hours when vehicles produce more carbon dioxide D. a situation in which a driver has too many passengers to pick up 26. In the eyes of Uber, the latest report is actually________. A. barking up the wrong tree B. not seeking the truth from facts C. killing two birds with one stone D. beating around the bush 27. From the study of ride-sharing services, we can infer that ________. A. Ride-sharing attracts exactly the same number of people as traditional means of transport. B. the study was conducted to prove the influence of ride-sharing services on modern cities C. ride-sharing service is not an environmentally friendly way to travel D. the new report has forced Uber to make big changes to achieve its goal C. “Tear them apart!”“Kill the fool!”“Murder the referee (裁判)!” These are common remarks at various sporting events. Although they may sound innocent, they influence behavior in such a way as to lead to real bloodshed. Essays have been written about the way words affect us. It has been shown that words having certain connotations (含义) may cause us to react in ways quite foreign to our usual behavior. Perhaps the time has come to remove it from sports words. The dictionary meaning of the word “opponent” is “enemy”. Thus, when a player meets an opponent,he may tend to treat that opponent as an enemy. At such times, winning is the only goal, and every action, no matter how violent or rude, may be considered reasonable. I recall an incident in a handball game when a referee refused a player’s request for a time out for a glove change because he did not consider them wet enough. The player rubbed his gloves across his wet T-shirt and then shouted,“Are they wet enough now?” I have also witnessed a player reacting to his opponent’s illegal blocking by hitting him with the ball as hard as he could. Off the court, they are good friends. It certainly gives proof of a court attitude which differs from normal behavior. Therefore,I believe it is time we promoted the game to the level where it belongs by setting an example to the rest of the sporting world. Replacing the word “opponent” with “associate” could be an ideal way to start. The dictionary meaning of the word “associate” is “friend”;“companion”.Reflect a moment! You may soon see and possibly feel the difference in your reaction to the word “associate” rather than “opponent”. 28. Which of the following statements best expresses the author’s view? A. Aggressive behavior in sports can have serious consequences. B. The words people use can influence their behavior. C.Unpleasant words in sports are often used by foreign athletes. D.Unfair judgments by referees will lead to violence on the sports field. 29. Unkind words are spoken during games because the players______ . A. usually receive little education B. are usually rude and easily annoyed C. cannot afford to be polite in a match D. treat their opponents as enemies 30. What did the handball player do when he was not allowed a time out to change his gloves? A. He refused to continue the game. B. He angrily hit the referee with a ball. C. He claimed that the referee was unfair. D. He wet his gloves by rubbing them across his T-shirt. 31. The author hopes to have the current situation in sports improved by_______ . A. calling on players to be polite on the court B. raising the referee’s sense of responsibility C. changing the attitude of players on the sports field D. improving the relationship between players and referees D. The Real Neighborhoods of Oscar-Winning Film 'Parasite' South Korea's Oscar-winning movie "Parasite" tells the story of class (社会等级) struggle through the sights and smells of Seoul. After considerable research, some researchers believe that behavior changes usually do not succeed if they start with the change itself. 38 Once you have analyzed all the factors that influence what you do, you must decide which behavior-change technique will work best for you. According to the psychologist Albert Ellis, most emotional problems and related behaviors arise from irrational (不理性的) statements that people make to themselves when events in their lives are different from what they would like them to be. 39 By changing this irrational “disastrous” self-talk into positive statements about what is really going on, you can increase the probability that positive behaviors will occur. Positive self-talk might be expressed as follows: “I really didn’t study enough for the exam. I just need to prepare for the next test.” Such self-talk will help you to recover quickly from disappointment and take positive steps to correct the situation. 40 A. Instead, we must go beyond and prepare ourselves for the long-term change or that eventual change. B. For example, you say to yourself, “I can't believe I failed that easy exam, I’m so stupid.” C. Many people pick up some bad habits unconsciously that should be flung out the window. D. Negative emotions can’t be avoided and sometimes bring us some unexpected benefits. E. Gradual changes give you time to get rid of a bad habit and therefore improve your chances of success. F. Some other ways like stopping negative thoughts can also help you move on to positive changes. G. Whether it be exercising more or drinking less, we start out with high expectations. 第三部分语言运用 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节:完形填空 (共15小题:每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 A little boy almost thought of himself as the most 41 child in the world because he was born with a disability. She would buy cloth for new shirts for the boys. Her daughter Mag should have another dress. And still there would be enough left for new stockings for her children. The idea about how to spend the dollars made her restless with excitement. On the day she planned to go shopping with the money. When she arrived at the large department store, she spotted a pile of silk stockings at the entrance. She looked at them as if looking at diamond jewelry. Missus Sommers picked up a black pair and looked at them closely, feeling the soft items. Two red marks suddenly showed on her pale face. She looked up at the shop girl and said proudly, “I will buy this pair.” Missus Sommers changed her cotton stockings for the new silk ones in the ladies' rest area. How good was the touch of the silk on her skin! She had forgotten her responsibility completely! Next, she went to the shoe department, where she tried on a pair of new boots. Nevertheless, from my perspective, as the combination of great writing and wisdom, classics shouldn’t be left to gather dust on shelves and still have a place in our contemporary society. By presenting various angles of life and provoking our deep thinking, classics can broaden our horizons and enrich our soul as well. I therefore appeal to everyone to read more classics. Dive into them, swallow them and digest them, and you will eventually benefit a lot. Yours, Wang Tao 二 读后续写:. One possible version: After buying a pair of new boots, she walked into the clothing department. When hostess introduced a knee-length dress with lace to her, her heart was thumping with excitement. Without hesitation, Missus Sommers tried on the dress, admiring herself in the mirror. “I will buy it.” she said with the bright smile. When she left the clothing department, all the passers-by paid attention to her. “What an elegant lady!” people whispered. Eyes twinkled with excitement, Missus Sommers couldn’t wait to share her happiness with the children. She was about to leave the store when a kid running around reminded her of something. “Is this your note? I see it fall out from your bag.” the kid said. And the note said “New shoes for Janie. New shirts for the boys. Another dress for Mag. New stocking for the Children.” How could she forget all this? Her cheeks was burning with shame. Missus Sommers thanked the boy and rushed to the stores where she bought clothes. She returned what she bought and purchased what the children needed. Leaving the store, Missus Sommers was no longer elegant but relived. After all, it was her responsibility to take good care of her dear children. Another possible version: After buying a pair of new boots, she walked into the clothing department. The fancy clothes there caught her eyes immediately and she couldn’t wait to try them on one after another. Looking at the pretty girl in the bright red dress, she couldn’t believe she, herself, could be so elegant. Without giving it a second thought, Missus Sommerers decided to buy it at once. She was about to leave the store when a kid running around reminded her of something. Oh, Jesus, how could she forget her children and spend all the money on her own? How could she wear a beautiful new dress while her children had worn-out shoes and shirt on? Overtaken by a sudden regret and shame, she turned around and rushed back to the store where the new dress and stockings were bought. Pulling them off and returning them to the waitresses, she purchased what her children needed. Walking out of the store in her shabby clothes, she looked delighted, content and beautiful. It was mother’s responsibility that brought her the sense of satisfaction.查看更多
