Anyone who buys a Northwest E-ticket through the airline’s computer service by June 16 will get an award. Next time you fly, you can buy another ticket for a friend for $99, good anywhere in the US or Canada, along with the lowest ticket prices. Some airlines offer extra frequent-flier miles for the ticketless crowd. And there are rising punishments for paper lovers. American, Northwest, United, and US Airways have raised the cost for lost-ticket replacement to $70 from either $60 or $50. The airlines insist that the increase in price is not meant to push travelers toward E-tickets but only covers the increasing cost of replacing and tracking a missing ticket. 51. Why is the new ticketless flight introduced? A. It is cheaper for air travelers. B. It helps reduce the cost for airlines. C. It can use computer to plan air traveling. D. It helps prevent filers from losing their tickets. 52. To encourage people to take ticketless flights, the airlines ________. A. sell their tickets for $99 from June to the following year B. let travelers go to both the US and Canada with the same tickets C. allow each traveler to have an extra $99 ticket for a friend of theirs D. offer ticketless travelers free miles to fly in the US 53. Who are the paper lovers mentioned in the text? A. People who like to have paper airline tickets. B. People who love paper products of various kinds. C. People who travel with paper on a plane. D. People who have lost their ticket and buy a second one. 54. The airline companies say that they have raised the lost-ticket replacement price in order to ___________. A. attract travelers to take ticketless flights B. punish those who insist on using paper tickets C. do better than other airline companies D. pay for the work to deal with lost tickets B Most people know Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. But not many know about another talking device (equipment) he invented just four years later, in 1880. He called the device the photophone. “Photophone” comes form the Greek words for “light” and “sound”. The photophone did not use electricity to carry sound over wires between two people. That’s what a telephone does. Instead, the photophone used a beam of sunlight traveling through the air. With his invention, Bell could actually transmit (传递) human speech on a beam of light. To do so, he spoke close to a thin mirror that was reflecting sunlight. The vibrations (振动) of his voice caused the mirror to vibrate, and the vibrating mirror caused the light to vibrate. The vibrating light hit a light-sensitive cell in a receiver placed some distance away. The cell changed the light patterns into electrical signals. Earphones changed the signals back into sounds. Bell believed that his idea of talking on a beam of light would prove to be important. He often called the photophone his greatest invention. Even though the photophone depended on a source of energy that was not constant—the sun—Bell wasn’t a bit discouraged. He felt sure that people would one day talk using beams of light. Two much more recent developments made Bell’s dream come true. In 1960, a scientist built the laser. A laser produces a highly concentrated beam of light. Shortly afterward, other scientists developed a new kind of optical fiber. The optical fiber is a glass thread. The new fiber could carry light beams long distances—as far as several miles. 55. According to Bell’s own opinion, ________is his greatest invention. A. photophone B. optical fiber C. telephone D. laser 56. What does “That” refer to in the underlined sentence? A. transmitting human speech on a beam of light B. using electricity to carry sound over wires between two people C. using a beam of sunlight traveling through the air D. light and sound 57. Which statement is TRUE about Bell’s invention of photophone? A. Earphones are used to change light into sounds. B. The photophone is based on the invention of the telephone. C. The photophone depends on a constant source of energy. D. The laser and the optical fiber are helpful for Bell’s invention. 58. This passage is mainly about ________. A. how to use light to carry sound B. what the telephone is C. what the photophone is D. how to use electricity to carry sound C It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him. One day, over the phone, his mother told him that Mr. Belser died the night before and the funeral would be on Wednesday. “Oh, it’s been so long since I thought of him. I’m sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago,” Jack said. “Well, he didn’t forget you. Every time I saw him he’d ask how you were doing. He’d recall about the many days you spent over ‘his side of the fence’ as he put it,” Mom told him. “I love that old house he lived in. He’s the one who taught me carpentry. I wouldn’t be in this business if it weren’t for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important… Mom, I’ll be there for the funeral,” Jack said. Busy as he was, he kept his word. Mr. Belser’s funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away. The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time, which was exactly as he remembered. Suddenly Jack stopped. “The box is gone,” he said. “What box?” Mom asked. “There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he’d ever tell me was ‘the thing I value most’”, Jack said. “Now, I’ll never know what was so valuable to him,” Jack said sadly. Returning to his office the next day, he found a package from Mr. Harold Belser on his desk. Jack tore open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. “Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It’s the thing I valued most in my life.” A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, and tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch. Running his fingers slowly over the fine cover, he opened it. Inside he found these words carved: “Jack, thanks for your time! Harold Belser.” “Oh, My God! This is the thing he valued most…” Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his assistant and cleared his appointments for the next two days. “Why?” his assistant asked. “I need some time to spend with my son,” he said. 59. Why did Belser send Jack his gold watch? A. Because he thought he had to keep his word. B. Because he had no children or relatives. C. Because he was grateful for Jack’s time with him. D. Because Jack had always wanted it during his childhood. 60. Why did Jack say he needed some time to spend with his son? A. He had missed his son and his family for days. B. He had promised to spare more time to stay with his son. C. He was very tired of his work and wanted to have a good rest. D. He came to realize the importance of the time with his family. 61. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true? A. Mr. Belser had pleasant memories of their time together. B. Mr. Belser often asked how Jack was doing. C. Jack was too busy with his business and family to think about Mr. Belser. D. Jack thought Mr. Belser died years ago. 62. What would be the best title for this passage? A. What He Valued Most B. An Old Gold Watch C. The Good Old Times D. The Lost Childhood Days D Boys’ schools are the perfect place to teach young men to express their emotions and involve them in activities such as art, dance and music. Boys at single-sex schools were said to be more likely to get involved in cultural and artistic activities that helped develop their emotional expressiveness, rather than feeling they had to obey the “boy code” of hiding their emotions to be a “real man”. Tony Little, headmaster of Eton, warned that boys were being faded by the British education system because it had become too focused on girls. He criticized teachers for failing to recognize that boys are actually more emotional than girls. The research argued that boys often perform badly in mixed schools because they become discouraged when their female peers do better earlier in speaking and reading skills. But in single-sex schools teachers can tailor lessons to boys’ learning style, letting them move around the classroom and getting them to compete in teams to prevent boredom, wrote the study’s author, Abigail James, of the University of Virginia. Teachers could encourage boys to enjoy reading and writing with “boy-focused” approaches such as themes and characters that appeal to them. Because boys generally have more acute vision, learn best through touch, and are physically more active, they need to be given “hands-on” lessons where they are allowed to walk around. “Boys in mixed schools view classical music as feminine (女性的) and prefer the modern style in which violence and sexism are major themes,” James wrote. Single-sex education also made it less likely that boys would feel they had to obey the traditional idea that men should be “masterful and in charge” in relationships. “In mixed schools boys feel forced to act like men before they understand themselves well enough to know what that means,” the study reported. 63. The author believes that a single-sex school would ____. A. help to improve speaking and reading skills B. encourage boys to develop their emotional expressiveness C. force boys to hide their emotions to be “real men” D. naturally strengthen the traditional image of a man in boys 64. What does Tony Little say about the British education system? A. It fails to give boys the attention they need. B. It focuses more on mixed school education. C. It fails more boys than girls in knowledge. D. It places more pressure on boys than on girls. 65. According to Abigail James, one of the advantages of single-sex schools is ______. A. boys can choose to learn whatever they are interested in B. boys can focus on their lessons without being distracted C. teaching can be adapted to suit the characteristics of boys D. teaching can be designed to promote boys’ team spirit 66. Which of the following can best describe the main idea of the passage? A. The difference between single-sex schools and mixed schools. B. Boys usually behave worse than girls in mixed schools. C. How to help boys do better than girls in mixed schools. D. Single-sex schools are good to teach boys to express their emotions freely. E One of the most striking findings of a recent questionnaire in the UK is that of the people interviewed, one in two believes that it is becoming more difficult to meet someone to start a family with. Why are many people finding it increasingly difficult to start and keep close relationships? Does modern life really make it harder to fall in love? Or are we making it harder for ourselves? It is certainly the case today that nowadays couples benefit in different ways from relationships. Women no longer rely upon partners for economic security or status. A man doesn’t expect his wife to be in sole (唯一的) charge of running his household and raising his children. But perhaps the knowledge that we can live perfectly well without a partnership means that it takes much more to persuade people to abandon their independence. In theory, finding a partner should be much simpler these days. Only a few generations ago, your choice of soul mate was restricted by geography, social convention and family tradition. Although it was never clear, many marriages were essentially arranged. Now those barriers have been broken down. You can approach a builder or a brain surgeon in any bar in any city on any given evening. When the world is your oyster(牡蛎), you surely have a better chance of finding a pearl. But it seems that the traditions have been replaced by an even tighter restriction:the limitation of choice. The expectations of partners are made greater to an unmanageable degree:good looks, impressive salary, kind to grandmother, and so on. There is no room for error in the first impression. We think that a relationship can be perfect. If it isn’t,it is intended to be thrown away. We work to protect ourselves against future heartache and don’t put in the hard emotional labor needed to build a strong relationship. Twelve-hour work at the office makes relaxed after-hours dating difficult. The cost of housing and child-raising creates pressure to have a stable income and career before a life partnership. 67. Nowadays, in a family, _________. A. men begin to depend on women B. couples share the burdens C. men are responsible for housework D. couples can’t get along together 68. People don’t want to give up their independence because______. A. they can’t bear arranged marriages B. they want to have more choices C. they think they can live happily alone D. they don’t want to follow traditions 69. People don’t bother to date because_______. . A. it requires luck to build a strong relationship B. it takes them too much energy to work C. it needs faith to have a life partnership D. it causes mental problems to find a life partner 70. Which of the following can best describe the main idea of the passage? A. The expectations of partners and financial pressure may prevent a relationship. B. People should spend more money on marriage today. C. Independence is much more important than love. D. Even a perfect marriage can be given up for the sake of independence. 第四部分:书面表达(共两节,满分50分) 第一节:完成句子(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分) 阅读下列各小题,根据汉语提示,用句末括号内的英语单词完成句子,并将答案写在答题卡上的相应题号后。 71. In order to avoid this tragedy, many universities and high schools have cancelled long-distance running from their sports games. Meanwhile, more and more Chinese are showing much concern for the steady decline in students’ physical conditions, particularly in strength and endurance. 要求: 1、短文词数120字左右。 2、除诗歌外,文体不限。 3、文中不得透露个人姓名和学校名称。4、不得直接照抄英语提示。 高二英语试卷答案及听力录音稿 作文: Recently, some runners aged 16 and over have suddenly died in long –distance events and some universities have cancelled the long races from their campus sports games, which have aroused public attention to the poor physical conditions of Chinese youth. So what can be done to improve the situation? First of all, as a student, I think our poor physical fitness results from the exam-based education system. Many schools and parents put our academic grades in the first place. Seldom do they care whether we have enough exercise or not. Therefore, it’s high time that great importance should be attached to physical education and it’s suggested that hours spent on workout should be lengthened and that physical performance should be included in the evaluation of high school graduates in the future. Secondly, some of my fellow classmates think we are heavily burdened with schoolwork, thus having no time for sports activities. In my opinion, we students shouldn’t use being busy as an excuse. For example, I, together with my friends, often play basketball every other day no matter how busy we are. Besides, providing enough sports facilities is a must. Hopefully, with joint efforts, we will become more physically strong and fit. 听力录音稿: Text 1 M: I really like this table, Marie. The wood is beautiful, and it looks like it will last a hundred years. W: I agree with you, but I’m not sure we can afford it right now, Thomas. M: Well, the table we have at home is not very good quality, and needs replacing. W: You’re right--- but we should look around a bit and see what else we can find. Text 2 M: Did Henry plant all the trees himself? W: He planned to, but he hurt his hand when he rode a bike. So I did instead of him. Text 3 W: Trent, I’ve got something to tell you. I got fired today. M: What?! You just got promoted last week! How could they do this to you?! W: April Fool’s! Text 4 W: Can you turn on the evening news? M: I was just about to watch the ball game. W: That’s okay. I’ll just go in the other room. Text 5 M: Mars moves slower than the Earth. W: Yes. A day on Mars is 37 minutes longer than a day on the Earth. Text 6 M: Good morning, Native Tongue Translation. Can I help you? W: Yes. I was wondering how much it would cost to translate a document from English into Arabic. M: Well, it depends on the kind of document, how long it is, and when you need it returned. W: It’s a cookbook about 20,000 words long. It’s not urgent, so you can take your time. M: Well, Madam, Arabic is one of the most difficult languages in the world, and there aren’t very many translators compared to, say, Spanish. In other words, the charge for Arabic translation will be higher than for most other languages. W: I understand. Could you give me an estimate? M: for this project, we could charge between five and ten cents per word. W: OK. Thanks for your time. I think I’ll keep looking. Text 7 M: Hello? W: Hi, my name is Kelsey Adams. I’m calling about the TV. M: Oh, hi! So you saw my ad in the newspaper? W: That’s right. My old TV just stopped working, so I think this might be great for both of us! M: I hope so. It’s a 50-cent Sony flat screen TV, and it’s only 6 months old. I’m asking for 500 bucks, but I would have to see it first, of course. M: Absolutely. When can you come over to take a look at it? W: How about 3:00 p.m. this afternoon? M: Hmm, I’ve got a meeting at 2:00 p.m. and it might run a little late. How does 4:00 p.m. sound? W: Perfect. Just tell me your address. Text 8 M: Hey, did you see China’ women’s volleyball team on television last night? W: Yes. The game was so exciting! I usually watch basketball, but that was great last night! M: Definitely a good effort! If anything, I was disappointed that the other team didn’t put up much of a flight. They made a lot of bad mistake, and they always seemed to be hitting the ball out of bounds. W: I just enjoyed how China celebrated after every point they won. Volleyball seems so much more passionate compared to other sports. M: Well, their victory means they will compete in the Olympics next year, which was their goal. I just hope they can pick up at least a bronze medal. W: Bronze? You mean gold, right? M: Well, that would be great, but there are a couple of very strong teams that beat China in a recent competition. W: I saw those matches--- they were extremely close! China can beat them next year for sure! M: We’ll see. I hope you’re right. But you never know what will happen in sports. W: Exactly! They might surprise you! Then what will you say? M: Ha ha, OK, let’ s just wait and see. Text 9 M: Ms. Robertson, for the past three weeks, I have been getting complaints about your work. W: Uh, what so you mean? What kind of complaints? M: Well, your supervisor told me you’re turning your reports in 2 or 3 days late, you’re often absent from staff meeting, and you haven’t been getting along with your colleagues. W: Look, Mr. Travers, I can explain… M: Ms. Robertson, I know you have been with us for while now, but this business is changing fast. We need people who can keep up and work as a team. W: Mr. Travers, my mother was just diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve been spending all my time outside of work at the hospital with her, and I even had to leave work early because she went into emergency surgery and I had to sign some papers. I’ve been so exhausted , and then Morrison from accounting made a joke the other day about cancer victims losing their hair and … M: oh… I had no idea, Ms. Robertson. W: I know my work has suffered these past few weeks, but I promise I will make up for it! M: Listen, why don’t you take a couple of days off? It’s much more important that you be with your mother while she is recovering. W: Really, sir? Thank you so much! M: My pleasure. And I’ll have a word with Morrison. That kind of talk has no place in this office! Text 10 Good afternoon, Shoppers! This is a special request from the security department here at Wal-Mart. We hope you are finding everything you are looking for, but right now, we need your help. We are looking for a 10-year-old boy named Brandon McSorley. Brandon, if you can hear this, please go to the security desk located at the front of the store near the Pizza Hut. Your mom is looking for you. All other guests, please take a moment to help us fine Brandon. His mommy Sally was last with him in the frozen foods section about 10 minutes ago, and she thinks he is still somewhere in the store, possibly in the toys section or the sporting goods section. Brandon is wearing a red shirt, blue jeans, white shoes, and a black baseball cap. He is about5 feet 2 inches tall with dark hair and blue eyes. If you see Brandon, please help him to get to the security desk located at the front of the store. You can also approach any of our staff members if you see Brandon or have any other information about where he might be. Thank you very much for your help, and enjoy the rest of your day here at Wal-Mart. 查看更多
