Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.‎ I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I had been on a train. I didn’t particularly enjoy the long train journey and had brought along a dozen ‎ newspapers and magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There wasn’t one familiar face. I sighed (叹气) and sat down to read my 21st Century Teens.‎ It wasn’t long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.‎ From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.‎ The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug. I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.‎ I looked forward to the return journey, by train.‎ ‎24. What did the author expect the train trip to be at first?‎ ‎ A. Dangerous. B. Pleasant. C. Boring. D. Exciting.‎ ‎25. What impressed the author most during her train trip?‎ ‎ A. The friendly country people. B. The mountains along the way.‎ C. The crowds of people in the streets. D. The simple lunch on the train.‎ ‎26.What does the underlined (划线的) words “pulled up at” probably mean?‎ ‎ A. Arrived at. B. Stopped at. C. Started off. D. Left for.‎ ‎27. What can we learn from the story?‎ ‎ A. Comfort in traveling by train. B. Pleasure of living in the country.‎ ‎ C. Reading gives people happiness. D. Smiles brighten people up.‎ C Is your school good for the environment?‎ Being green wasn’t easy for Kermit the Frog (a famous cartoon character) — but it is for a growing number of schools around the country. A “green” school is an environmentally friendly building that uses less energy by depending on earth’s natural resources (资源) for heat, light, and power. Green schools have clean air, a lot of natural light, and renewable power sources.‎ New studies show that green schools are not only good for the environment, but good for you too! Kids in classrooms with a lot of daylight scored 25 percent higher on reading and math tests than students who studied in rooms with less natural light. Students in schools with more natural light took three to four fewer sick days than students with less natural light. ‎ The Willow‎ ‎School in New Jersy is a school that was built as a green building in 2002. Parts of the building are made from recycled materials. Every classroom has skylights (天窗) to allow most sunlight, and solar panels (太阳能电池板) line the south end of the building. It uses about 70 percent less energy than a non-green school. This helps the school cut down on high energy costs.‎ Kate Burke Walsh, head of the Willow‎ ‎School, says, “Sunlight has an influence — you’re happier.” The clean, natural surroundings help both students and teachers “deal with stress and stay relaxed…it’s a very calming atmosphere (氛围).”‎ ‎28. The underlined sentence is used to ________.‎ A. expect readers to give a clear answer B. introduce the main topic of the passage C. show the writer’s interest in your school D. care about the environment of your school ‎29. According to the passage, what is a green school like?‎ A. The buildings are painted green. B. No energy is wasted everywhere.‎ C. It makes full use of natural resources. D. More trees are planted in the schoolyard.‎ ‎30. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3 beginning with “New studies show …”?‎ A. A green school gets more sunlight.‎ B. A student at a green school gets better grades.‎ C. How students can benefit from a green school. ‎ D. How a green school is good for the environment.‎ ‎31. What’s the purpose of writing this passage?‎ A. To explain why green schools are popular. B. To persuade people to build green schools.‎ C. To change people’s attitudes on green schools. D. To introduce the advantages of green schools.‎ D I’ve always believed that sharing a meal together is important, whether it’s with family or friends. It creates community, and community gives you a sense of belonging. Now, I can add another reason to my list: eating together is good for you. A recent study of 8250 British adults found that people who always eat alone scored 7.9 points lower in happiness than those who eat regularly with others. The only other thing more likely to make you unhappy than eating alone is mental (心理的) illness.‎ More happiness is a good motivator (动力) for you to eat together with your family or friends. Remember, it’s the eating together that matters, not necessarily the food you eat. You can connect with people over pizza as easily as you can over roast beef. I’d encourage you to make that connection last as long as possible, too. Take your time. Practice what the Italians call conviviality (欢宴).‎ For the Italians, conviviality consists of friendliness, conversation and sharing food and drink while paying attention to the people you’re with. Everyone sits at a table. Meals can take hours and come out in various dishes. Electronic devices (设备) are rarely pulled out. The meal, along with the company it creates, is the entertainment for the evening. Once dinner is on the table, eat slowly and keep the conversations going on.‎ One of the authors of the British study, Psychology Professor Robin Dunbar of Oxford‎ ‎University, said they “simply don’t know” why people who eat together are happier. Maybe they haven’t scientifically been able to reach a conclusion, but I’m willing to guess it has to do with being in a community and making connections. Either way, it’s a good excuse to try this approach the next time you find yourself eating alone.‎ ‎32. What does the study show according to Paragraph 1?‎ A. We shouldn’t eat out too often.‎ B. Eating together makes people happier.‎ C. We should eat together with people we like.‎ D. Eating alone is likely to cause mental illness.‎ ‎33. According to the text, what is more important to a meal?‎ A. Food you eat. B. The place where you eat. ‎ C. Eating with others. D. Conversations you have.‎ ‎34. Which of the following is TRUE about the Italian conviviality?‎ A. It has a special topic. B. Pizza is the best choice.‎ C. Its aim is to share information. D. People eat slowly and talk freely during it.‎ ‎35. What can be concluded from the text?‎ A. Connection with others is good for our mental health.‎ B. It’s clear why eating together makes people happier.‎ C. Choosing what to eat is no longer as easy as before.‎ D. It’s difficult to decide how happy people are.‎ 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分) ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ It can be difficult to start a hobby. Take a walk along a beach and look for sea glass. Another way is to begin to choose an object you wish to collect, such as bottles you’ve found on the ground.‎ Start an art or craft (工艺) project.‎ ‎ 38 Writing, drawing, and more will likely be available to you simply by using what you already have on hand. Look around your house before you begin. Often unused materials can give you an idea for a project or help you complete one at low cost.‎ ‎ 39 ‎ Think of a subject you’d like to learn.
