In many cultures, dance has both historic and cultural significance, which is communicated through learned gestures and expressions. Here are a bit more details about three of the world's most beautiful dances. Kathakali Kathakali is a storytelling dance, during which performers use a variety of gestures, and eyes and facial expressions to communicate meanings. Costumes, hair styles, makeup and face paint, and jewelry also all hold specific meanings in the performance of kathakali. There are nine facial expressions used to express emotions ranging from sadness and anger to curiosity. Through their expressions, it should be completely clear to the viewer what the performer is intending to convey. Tango The dance has its roots in an African slave dance called candombe, which is also a type of music. One key factor of a candombe performance is a partnered dance, which has over time developed into the modern tango. If you can keep your eyes on one part of the tango, just focus on the dancers' legs and feet. The tango is typically performed low to the ground, with both performers' step-work often taking place at the same time. It’s complex and communicative. Flamenco One of the most interesting facts about the flamenco is that it began as a song. Over time, flamenco developed to include its now-famous passionate accompanying dance. One of the key factors of flamenco is palmas. It may look like simple, rhythmic clapping, but palmas are performed at different speeds, and strengths, and it is essential that the flamenco dancer understands how to make use of his or her hands as part of the performance. 21.What is special about kathakali? A.It is intended to convey a romantic story. B.It involves many expressions to attract viewers. C.It’s a dance to tell a story and express many feelings. D.It is a dance where people can learn how to exchange feelings. 22.What should you pay attention to in a tango? A.The dancers' arms and hands. B.The dancers' legs and feet. C.The dancers' facial expressions. D.The dancers' eyes and hands. 23.In which dance does dancers' clapping play an important role? A.Kathakali. B.Flamenco. C.Tango. D.Candombe B Thomas Panek has completed 20 marathons, however, he made history on Sunday at the New York City Half Marathon. While visually impaired runners usually use human guides, Mr Panek became the first person to complete the race supported by guide dogs. A trio of Labradors - Westley, Waffle and Gus - each accompanied him for a third of the race. The team finished in two hours and 21 minutes. Mr Panek, who lost his sight in his early 20s, showed that while he appreciated the support of human volunteers, he missed the feeling of independence. In 2015, Mr Panek established the Running Guides programme which trains dogs to support runners. When selecting his companions for the race, Mr Panek chose siblings Waffle and Westley to join Gus, who is his full-time guide dog. “The relationship is really important. You can’t just pick up the harness (挽带) and go for a run with these dogs,” Mr Panek said. “You’re training with a team no matter what kind of athlete you are, and you want to spend time together in that training camp.” Each dogs sets its own pace — Westley runs an eight minute mile, while his sister Waffle can cover the same distance in six minutes—and helps Mr Panek avoid obstacles such as kerbs(路缘)and cones (椎体). Each dog wears a special harness and set of running boots, to protect their paws. Gus was chosen to run the final leg of the race and cross the finish line with Mr Panek. He retired from his duties as a guide dog at the end of the race. According to Mr Panek, guide dogs give visually impaired people the freedom to “do whatever it is a sighted person does, and sometimes, even run a little faster than them”. 24.In which way did Thomas Panek make history? A. He set a new record of time in running the half marathon. B. He is the first blind person who take part in the marathon. C. He finished the competition with help of human volunteers. D. He is the first blind person finishing half marathon with guide dogs. 25. What can we learn about Thomas Panek? A. He stopped running after he lost sight. B. He enjoyed running with human volunteers. C. He is the founder of the Running Guides programme. D. He got the gold medal at the New York City Half Marathon. 26.What do you know about the three dogs? A. They didn’t get training before the race. B. Westley runs faster than Waffle. C. Gus is Panek’s full-time guide dog. D. Westley retired after the race. 27. The passage is ______. Hand washing remains your best defense against picking up illnesses, and sleep is a strong defense too. But what you eat does play an important part. Though it isn’t because of just one or two foods, what you eat in your daily diet have an effect on how weak or strong your immunity(免疫力)is. We’d better eat fruits and vegetables every day. They contain key vitamins needed in the immune system. For example, Vitamin C and Ain foods help immune system work well to keep us healthy. Remember that eating the actual fruit or veggie is better than eating single-vitamin supplements. Getting too little protein can weaken your immune system. Protein-rich foods supply the amino acids(氨基酸)you need to build important proteins in the body. Animal foods like beef and pork also contain zinc(锌), which your body uses to make t-cells. Fermented foods are foods that are naturally protected by bacteria(细菌), and they’re good for the micro biome(微生物).That’s the name for the bacteria that live in your stomach, where a lot of cells in immunity actually live. Fermented foods like yogurt help beneficial bacteria develop fast in the stomach, leaving less room for harmful bacteria. 28.What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us? A. Hand washing is necessary. B. Illnesses make people bored. C. Immunity has much to do with your diet. D. More sleep does good to health. 29.Why does the writer suggest we eat fruits and vegetables every day? A. They are rich in vitamins we need. B. Vitamin A is helpful for immunity. C. Fruits supply our body with Vitamin C only. D. Eating single-vitamin foods does little good. 30.What can we infer from paragraph 3? A. Amino acids can help to make t-cells. B. Healthy body needs plenty of protein. C. The immune system can be hurt easily. D. We should eat animal foods as many as possible. 31.What is the main idea of the text? A. Different foods have different uses. B. D A number of companies have used the wind and sun to produce energy. Now, one company called ORPC is using the force of flowing rivers and ocean currents(水流). The company recently presented the new technology at an energy conference near Washington, DC. Christopher Sauer is the chief executive officer of ORPC. He says the technology was designed for small, rural communities that do not have easy access to power sources. The ORPC technology is an energy generator(发电机) which can be put under water, called RivGen. It works in a series of steps. First, the generator is put in the middle of a steel cage on top of a wide boat. Wheels – or, turbines – are attached to each side of the generator. The boat, cage, and generator all sink to the bottom of the river. There, the river current turns the wheels and creates as much as 50 kilowatts of power. The turbines are safe for the animals that live in the river. The generator is not very tall, so it can work in water areas that are not very deep. Other companies are not able to work in shallow water. Another feature of the technology are “crossflow turbines.” They make the turbines move in the same direction, whatever way the water is flowing. The turbines’shape helps the generator harvest power from tidal currents in the ocean. The company's ocean turbine is called TidGen. It can create up to 600 kilowatts of electricity, enough to power a small settlement. Right now, the amount of power TidGen can harvest changes as the strength of the tide goes up and down. But ORPC workers are trying to make the power harvest steady. In time, they want TidGen power to be part of the main energy sources. 32. What does “RivGen” refer to in the text? A. A boat. B. TidGen. C. An energy generator. D. The ORPC company. 33.What is special about ORPC’s generator compared with other companies ? A.It is safe for the sea animals. B.It is suitable for small rural communities. C.It is can work in water that is not deep. D.It can take energy from water movement. 34.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. ORPC is able to make much power at the same speed. B. The strength of the tide decides on the amount of power. C. TidGen power has become part of the main energy sources. D. Water’s flowing helps the turbines move in different directions. 35.What’s the purpose of the text ? A. To introduce. B. To sell. C. To educate. D. To prevent. If you live in a place where most people speak the language you are learning, you may use the language for several hours each day. But you may not have these chances to practice English. You may even be self-taught. 36 It is not very difficult, but it does take effort and practice. Think in single words. 37 In your head, try to name each object in your surroundings. As you continue with this, it becomes more of a habit, so things are going to pop up into your head – computer, telephone, chair, and desk. Whatever it is, wherever you are. You can also do this at home when you wake up and before you go to sleep. 38 Another exercise is describing in your mind objects you don't know the words for. An example would be if you couldn't think of the word “garage,” Hinshaw says. “If you're looking at your house and you see your garage, but you can't think of the name in English. You can say, 'The place inside where I put my car.’” Think in sentences. The next exercise is thinking in simple sentences. For example, if you are sitting in a park, you can tell yourself things like, “It's such a beautiful day” and “People are playing sports with their friends.” 39 Describe your day. Another exercise experts suggest is to describe your daily activities. You can mentally make plans in the morning when you wake up. 40 So the skill level is a little higher. A. Describe unknown words. B. Guess the meaning of a new word. C. This would require future verb tenses. D. A good first step is to think in individual words. E. Hinshaw says doing this can help learners of any language. F. Once this becomes easy, you can move on to more difficult sentences. G. The good news is that thinking in English can bring you a huge step closer to fluency! Maverick Oyao,an art student at Western Mindanao State University in the Philippines. In those days in Pakistan(巴基斯坦),there were limited choices: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn't interested in engineering, so that I was left with medicine or business. I couldn't decide. My uncle suggested that I do a work placement(实习工作)to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a good idea. I was accepted for a month's placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I got a feel for how the world of finance worked, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easy-going work environment. The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience was quite different. The hospital days started early(at 7 am, compared with 9 am at the bank), and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again in the next day. I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital had an intense(严肃紧张的)environment, and the studying and training was difficult. It seemed that business was a better choice. Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after a very busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with some boys sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through(穿梭)traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side. Paragraph 1; Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. _______________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. _____________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 【参考答案】 第一部分 听力(共 20 小题,每小题 1.5 分,满分 30 分) 1—5 BCCA A 6—10 CBABC 11—15 ABAA B 16—20 BCCBC 第二部分 阅读 (共两节,满分50分) 21-23 CBB 24-27 DCCB 28—31CABD 32—35 CCBA 36—40 GDAFC 第三部分 语言运用(共四节,满分 50 分) 第一节 完形填空(共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分) 41. Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. He fell so heavily, lying motionless in the middle of the road. The bus driver wasn’t aware of what was happening and sped away. Driven by a sense of duty, I stopped my car immediately and examined him carefully. With the help of some passers-by, I lifted him into my car and sent him to the hospital. Fortunately, the boy was safe finally. The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. The mother held my hands to her face. With tears in her eyes, She said, “My boy, you are an angel!” What a feeling it was, to help save the life of another person! Driving home that evening, I knew what my final decision would be. The short experience of helping the boy said more than two months of placements could do. 如:wasn’t aware of;Driven by a sense of duty;with grateful smiles; With tears in her eyes;感叹句:What a feeling it was, to help save the life of another person! He fell so heavily, lying motionless in the middle of the road;Driving home that evening, I knew what my final decision would be. The short experience of helping the boy said more than two months of placements could do. The bus driver wasn’t aware of what was happening and sped away介词with的复合结构作伴随状语:With the help of some passers-by, I lifted him into my car and sent him to the hospital.
