It sees a soldier entering into an African war-zone and saving hundreds of lives from Western bad guys. It’s basically the plot of your typical Hollywood action movie, but this time it’s a Chinese man upholding justice and keeping the world safe.‎ Following in the footsteps of Jackie Chan and Jet Li, martial arts expert Wu Jing is among a new generation of Chinese action stars turned directors. His first Wolf Warrior film came out in 2014, but it didn’t catch much attention. Mainstream movies, ‎ especially those promoting patriotism(爱国主义), usually don’t do very well in China. Wolf Warrior 2, however, has become a phenomenon. The massive response in China also made the film top the global box office worldwide last weekend, beating Hollywood blockbuster Dunkirk.‎ Many moviegoers said online that they were touched by the patriotic plot. “This movie is the best Chinese action movie,” one social media user wrote. “Shockingly good-hot blood and tough guys. I cried after watching it,” said another.‎ One reason for the enthusiastic response compared to the first Wolf Warrior film is its improved action scenes. Many in China have praised the film for its fighting scenes and special effects, saying they are of “Hollywood quality”. The movie, which is entirely privately funded, has also been lauded for its attention to detail and reportedly features close replicas(复制品)of many of the latest weapons used by the Chinese army. Timing has also contributed to its success, with the Chinese nation in the times of a new wave of patriotism.‎ The film first came out just ahead of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese amy, a hugely symbolic event for the country. Over the weekend, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) held a grand military parade, which presented the latest weapons of China. In a serous speech, which in parts was not different to lines from the film. President Xi Jinping promised to fight anyone who tried to tear China apart.‎ ‎21. I knew I could rely on her to have room for me on her lap and words of love and encouragement when I needed to hear them. When she died five years ago, I was devastated. The whole family was still in shock when her husband, Uncle Ronnie, died a week later. I longed to have a small item of Aunt KELLY’s to remember her by, but seeing her children and grandchildren overcome by the grief(悲痛)of this double loss made me shy away from asking.‎ A few months after Aunt KELLY’s death, I was on my way to work when I saw Rescued Treasures, a local second-hand store. I only had a couple of dollars on me and didn’t really intend to buy anything, but I stopped anyway just to look inside. I had been shopping around for a few minutes when a small, black handbag caught my eye. It wasn’t fancy or special. I didn’t really need a handbag and continued to look around the store, but something kept drawing me back to that handbag. Finally, I checked the price tag(标签). It was just one dollar.‎ The handbag stayed in the back of my car for weeks until I came upon it during a car clean-up. I opened it up. I couldn’t believe it. They hadn’t even cleaned it out. It was still full of junk, old candy wrappers, old receipts(收据)and used paper. Usually the store emptied things inside, so there wouldn’t be any surprises for a new owner.‎ I threw away some wastes, and sorted through the receipts, when I found one item in the small inside pocket. It was an insurance card with the name “KELLY” written on it. I began to cry. My beloved Aunt KELLY. This was her handbag.‎ ‎24. What do we know from the passage?‎ A. But walk down any hallway of the new Germantown High School in Madison County, Mississippi, and you won’t spot a single locker.‎ New technology such as e-books, interactive(互动的)assignments and Web-based learning is making lockers in ‎ American high school a thing of the past.‎ Officials from schools that have listed several benefits: less noise, less delay and an increased sense of safety.‎ ‎ “It’s all to create an environment that’s student-friendly”, said Ronnie McGehee, chief official of the Madison County School District.‎ Getting rid of lockers can also cut hundreds of thousands in construction costs. Madison County saved $200,000 by not including lockers in the new high school, McGehee said.‎ It is also believed that removing lockers could help prevent school violence. ”Lockers give kids a place to hide things”, said Mike Nelson, founder of a safety- training group. Nelson believes that some school shootings and other incidents could ‎ have been prevented if there had been no lockers.‎ However, Andrew Booth, a 10th-grader at Gemantown High, said there are some disadvantages of not having a locker. “It can make your book bag really heavy”, he said. The 16-year-old has four textbooks “plus notebooks and a binder(活页夹)” to carry to school each day.‎ He said some teachers have shelves at the back of the classroom on which students can leave their bags. Others provide an extra set of textbooks in the classroom, so students don’t have to carry books from home.‎ New York architect Peter Lippman said schools will have to address such concerns and find ways to give students a “sense of space” “If you are carrying books around, it does limit your flexibility in the classrooms,” he said.‎ Lippman said he would like to see schools starting to use the new free space to provide less structured learning opportunities for students, including gathering areas and learning centers. “If you think about a school with just rows of lockers-there’s nowhere for learning opportunities in that”, he said.‎ ‎28. What does the text mainly talk about?‎ A. The trend of getting rid of lockers in US high schools.‎ B. The influence of new technology on some US high schools.‎ C. The history and development of lockers in US high schools.‎ D. The advantages and disadvantages of lockers in US high schools.‎ ‎29. What is not the advantage of getting rid of lockers?‎ A. Saving money. B. Making less noise.‎ ‎ C. Preventing school violence. D. Making book bags heavy.‎ ‎30. What is Andrew Booth’s attitude to removing lockers?‎ A. Complaining B. Approving. C. Ignorant. D. Favorable.‎ ‎31. What does Lippman suggest schools that have removed lockers should do?‎ A. Give students as much freedom as possible in the classroom.‎ B. Provide students with an extra set of textbooks in the classroom.‎ C. Make more learning opportunities for students in the new free space.‎ D. Put shelves at the back of the classroom for students to leave their bags.‎ D When Medicine Hat, a city in southern Alberta, Canada, promised to put an end to homelessness in 2009, there were many people doubtful about it. A good six years later, the city says it has fulfilled its promise with the help of a surprisingly simple idea: giving every homeless person a home with no strings attached.‎ While traditional housing programs ask that potential participants shouldn’t have crime record and seek psychological treatment before they are admitted into the system, the Housing First approach makes the homeless free from such things. Whoever is in need of a permanent place to stay will get help, no matter what their circumstances are. “We thought that people are worthy of a home and it is a fundamental human right to have a shelter and a roof over their heads, ” Jamie Rogers, who ran the Housing First program in Medicine Hat told the BBC. “Of course it is recovery-oriented and we help and support people in making different choices in their life, but we don’t withhold (抑制) housing because of who they choose to be.”‎ Since April 2009, the community of about 64,000 collectively housed 1,013 homeless individuals; 705 adults and 308 children. Apart from the obvious success of getting people out of the street, Housing First also brought with it a number of unexpected positive effects. In Medicine Hat, emergency room visits and run-ins with police have dropped while at the same time court appearances went up. Once people felt that somebody cared about them, they gathered the necessary motivation to begin dealing with their past in a positive way.‎ Medicine Hat didn’t just carry out Housing First (which is also being used in other cities with varying levels of success) but rather changed its whole approach to homelessness. Rather than building, or relying only on subsidized (补贴的) housing, the city built a relationship of trust with landlords, property management companies, and local communities as a whole. Fear and prejudice towards the homeless have been replaced by the realization that they are simply people down on their luck and nowadays landlords call up city hall to offer their apartments to the program.‎ Medicine Hat’s inspiring success proves to us all that if we put aside our fears and differences and instead come together as a community, nothing is impossible.‎ ‎32. What can we know about the homeless in Medicine Hat?‎ A. Most of them have been offered shelters.‎ B. They only need to pay a little for the shelters.‎ C. They needn’t sleep in the street any longer.‎ D. They have gained great help from local charity.‎ ‎33. Compared with the traditional one, the Housing First approach .‎ A. houses the homeless with fewer requirements B. cares less about the homeless people’s crime record C. cares more about the homeless people’s psychological health D. gives the homeless shelters regardless of their backgrounds ‎34. Carrying out the Housing First approach, Medicine Hat didn’t expect .‎ A. the task would take so much time B. public security would improve C. the work would cost so much money D. conflicts among people were nearly removed ‎35. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell about?‎ A. Medicine Hat’s achievements.‎ B. Medicine Hat’s work summary.‎ C. Medicine Hat’s plan for the future.‎ D. Medicine Hat’s working with police.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ The iPod generation ‎ Today it is common to see people who walk about with colored wires hanging from their ears wherever they go. We were more than worried because in addition to a large sum of money, the wallet also contained our passports and air tickets. We were at a loss as for what to do when the manager of the hotel came, followed by a boy, who picked up the wallet by chance. We were so relieved and grateful.
