If you want to rent a house, here are some websites for you to find your excellent accommodation. onefinestay They certainly ensure that you have a fine and comfortable stay. To ensure their safety and comfort, the houses are carefully chosen by the staff. Once you select the house and check in, they will hand over the keys and an iphone to you. And their help center is available 24 hours/7 days. However, the disadvantage is that they only provide homes available in London, Los Angeles, New York and Paris. FlipKey This is a popular website for vacation rental in North America, and has more than 13,000 houses shown on its website. Another feature is the Happy Rental Guarantee, which claims that you’ll be protected to the amount of $10,000 if the house is not properly represented. Wimdu It has over 150,000 holiday apartments, and is one of the biggest websites for vacation rental in Europe. What do the four websites have in common? A. They offer choices of booking a vacation apartment. B. They all offer vacation apartments around the world. C. They show us how to book a hotel for the vacation. D. They tell us where to find a long-term apartment. B One morning there was a message on the answering machine from an angry customer, complaining(抱怨) about her lack of service----service that had been put off because her check had been sent back by a bank. Her message included a curse word. As it is my job to deal with payments received, it is my duty to collect the check. Everyone responsible for the “missed” service was happy to pass the situation off to me. They told me how difficult the task would be and offered to prepare me by playing the message first. I refused, “No, I’m afraid it would mislead me.” As is often the case when a check is returned, I soon found this woman’s phone number. I told our customer gently that a check she had written was returned because of non-sufficient funds(存款不足). I told her I always want to let people know about returned checks quickly because the huge fees the banks charge can cause more checks to be returned and more fees to be charged. I told her she could communicate with the bank and get things solved before her problems got worse. She told me she had difficulties because of being on a fixed income and being in poor health. She told me she was facing open heart surgery(手术). I commiserated her for every step of her way. Not only do I feel sorry for her situation--- and more particularly for the lonely state she lives in as a result, but she also taught me something about cranky(古怪) people, something that I will try not to forget. When a person is cranky, there may be reasons you don’t know about. If you don’t react with anger, you may learn what the real problem is and may in some way be able to help, if only with a little sympathy(同情). 24. Why did the customer make a complaint? A. Never getting angry with your customers. C. Treating cranky customers more carefully. D. Finding out why people are cranky and offering help. C Kayla Coehoorn sweeps(打扫) the floor in her family’s cow barn(畜棚). She spreads feed. Soon she’ll cut the grass. One thing she won’t do is milk cows. Kayla manages the family’s cow herd, which until last year meant getting up at 5 for milking, then milking again in the evening. Not anymore. Last year the family built a new barn equipped with a pair of robotic milking machines. The machines milk cows around the clock, without Kayla in attendance. Kayla, feeling so relieved, loves it and so do the cows. Robotic milking was first developed in Europe and only recently began to catch on in the US. About 5% of American cow farms have begun to use robots. But the machines are growing in popularity, especially on smaller farms. The robots solve a big problem. As older farmers retire, young people are unwilling to fill their shoes. Robotic milking is encouraging them to take another look. It not only makes the work easier but also gives them the flexibility(灵活性) to get up later or take a day off, or attend a soccer game. It allows more time for other things. Cows come two or three times a day to a robot, attracted by the promise of food. As each one steps up, a steel arm swiftly washes its udder(乳房) and applies four milking cups. Computers not only control the robots but also collect detailed information about each cow. On traditional farms, the farmer pushes the old milking machines and attaches the machines by hand. However, robots won’t save all farms. Low milk prices have got many cow farmers deep in debt and worsened the financial(财政的) uncertainty that also helps drive them out of business. Over the past few years, the US has lost nearly 17,000 cow farms. So robots aren’t a panacea(万能药). Still, experts say robotics can offer new possibilities to families facing hard decisions about the future. “Especially in places with a history of smaller farms, this will help keep that way of life,” says one expert. 28. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph? A. An example of cow farmer’s daily life in the US. B. Kayla’s opinion on applying robotic milking . C. The effect of robotic milking on Kayla’s work. D. The popularity of robotic milking in recent years. 29. Why might young farmers be attracted to farm work by robots? A. They could increase their income. B. They could have more family time. C. They could learn about high technology. D. They could have their farm life improved. 30. According to the text, milking tech with the use of robots_________. A. still needs the work of human hands. B. could also check the cow’s condition. C. is widely used on large cow farms. D. has no requirement for location and time. 31. Which of the following would the author agree with? A. Government support is necessary for farmers. B. Small farms with robots will avoid being in debt. C. Robotic milking can’t solve financial problems. D. Milk prices would be influenced by the robot tech. D For years, people have been naming their pets and their kids, in some cases, after famous people they love. In 2016 370 people in the United States named their baby girls Khaleesi in honour of the character in Game of Thrones. Scientists, too, are constantly naming newly discovered species after famous people. But these names might carry a little bit more weight: While a baby named Khaleesi can get older and decide to legally change her name, scientific names go down in the history books. Sometimes having a recognizable name is the only way for many species to get widespread attention. In September 2017, researches announced the discovery of 15 new species of spiders in the Caribbean. Spider expert Ingi Agnarsson was the lead researcher of the study. They named three of them after Leonardo DiCaprio, David Bowie, and Michelle Obama. Among the spiders they named are Spintharus(the spiders’ genus(属)) Davidbowiei and S. Leonardodicaprioi. Agnarsson says some species are named this way because scientists have trouble getting the public interested in their studies. Agnarsson says scientists who discover a new species can basically call it whatever they want, as long as they use correct genus name. For example, some scientists name a new species after a loved one or another scientist. However, it’s frowned upon to name it after themselves. Agnarsson’s team called one spider Spintharus Skelly, after a researcher’s cat, Skelly. Agnarsson, along with four students who were involved in the research, also named spiders after important supporters of animal conservation(保护) and action on climate change. It is a way to raise people’s environmental awareness and provide an opportunity for them to learn about the surrounding ecology environment. It also allows scientists to stress some humanlike traits(特点) in these animals and finally make them a bit more relatable. 32. Why is Michelle Obama chosen for naming a new species? A. To show its important role. B. To draw people’s attention to it. C. To go down in the history books. D. To pay respect for Michelle Obama. 33. Which of the following can replace the underlined words in Paragraph 4? A. disagreed with B. taken out C. pointed out D. brought up 34. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. People can benefit from the study. B. Animals’ names affect animal conservation. C. Agnarsson cares much about the environment. D. Discovering a new species does good to nature. 35. What is the best title of this text? A. How do parents name their children? B. Why do new species have recognizable names? C. What recognizable names do scientists choose? D. How do scientists name newly discovered species? 第二节 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) This part is going to help you to prepare for English speaking exams, which are the most worrying exam for many language learners. 36 So, don’t worry; our tips will help you feel more confident in a speaking exam. ● Listening to as much English as possible will help improve your speaking.
