They have special animal food stores, though they can get animal food in almost every kind of store. Some people spend around two hundred Canadian dollars a month on animal food. When you visit people's houses, they would be very glad to show you their pets and they are very proud of them. You will also find that almost every family has a bird feeder in their garden. All kinds of birds are welcomed to come and have a good meal. They are free to come and go and nobody is allowed to kill any animal in Canada. They have a law against killing wild animals. If you killed an animal, you would be punished. If an animal happened to get run over by a car,People would be very sad. People in Canada have many reasons to like animals. One of them might be:Their family ties are not as close as ours. When children grow up, they leave their parents and start their own life. Then the old will feel lonely. But pets can solve this problem. They can be good friends and never leave them alone. 4.The passage mainly talks about ________ . A.how to keep disease from pets B.pets in Canada C.how to take good care of pets D.life of the old in Canada 5.They give their pets injections before keeping them at their houses because ___. A.the pets are sick B.the pets are wild C.they want to stop them from carrying disease D.they want them to sleep on the way home 6.This passage shows that Canadians ________ . A.hate animals B.often kill animals C.love animals D.don't keep pets inside houses 7. In Canada, children leave their parents when they grow up because __ A.they don't love their parents any more B.they can only find jobs far from their parents C.their parents' houses are too small D.they wouldn't depend on their parents any more C Recently, a scientist did some experiments. He left a group of 4-year-olds in a room with a bell and a candy. If they rang the bell, he would come back and they could eat the candy. If, however, they didn’t ring the bell and waited for him to come back on his own, they could then have two candies. In the videos of the experiments, he can see the children hiding their eyes, trying to exercise self-control so they can wait and get two candies. The results are different. Some broke down and rang the bell within a minute. Others lasted 15 minutes. The children who waited longer went on to get higher academic scores. They got into better colleges and had better adult success. The children who rang the bell quickest were more likely to have received worse teacher and parental evaluations (评价) 10 years later and were more likely to have drug problems at age 32. The experiments are worth noting because people spend a lot of time thinking about how to improve education, and how to become rich. But when the result is not good, they will come back to ask “How do we get people to get the sort of self-control that leads to success?” This is to enter the world of human nature. So these experiments, along with everyday experience, tell us that self-control is most important. Young people who can sit through sometimes boring classes to get a degree can work hard in order to learn a language well. They can avoid drugs and alcohol. For people without self-control skills, however, school is a series of failed and painful experience. No wonder they drop out and their later life is a group of foolish ideas, such as drug use, stealing and so on. 8.The scientist did some experiments to ________. A.find good ways of training children to learn B.show that children’s education is important C.test children’s self-control and later success D.test children’s intelligence of ringing the bell 9.What do the underlined words “broke down” probably mean? A.failed to wait. B.kept waiting. C.hid the candy. D.ate the candy. 10.How long did the scientist’s experiments last according to the text? A.Just 15 minutes. B.Within 10 years. C.Less than 14 years. D.About 28 years. 11.What will the children without self-control do at school according to the text? A.They will improve their education. B.They will suffer a lot from boring lessons. C.They will become very rich and successful. D.They will work hard to catch up with others. D With schools close in the UK during the COVID-19 outbreak, most children must now be homeschooled. Parents have found themselves not only having to balance work and having the children at home but also having to try and teach them. How can you keep your children focused while learning? Nicola Anderson--Head of Customer Support at the UK’s leading online tutoring service MyTutor, provides new, up-to-date tips to hearten parents at this difficult time and advises how they can structure their children’s days. One is to keep to a regular timetable so it still feels like your child is taking part in the school day. Ms Anderson said: “Children of all ages do well on routine and boundaries; schools provide this in abundance and most children will feel secure and happy if they can follow a similar timetable for their homeschooling.” Another tip is to create an environment which is favorable to learning. She said:” The environment should be free from distractions and ideally near to an open window, to provide them with appropriate levels of fresh air and natural light. Some children find it comfortable and helpful to have quiet, instrumental music playing in the background to help them to focus, but this isn’t for everyone.” Using technology to help with your child’s learning is also advised. Many schools are offering online classes and resources to help and companies are reducing or even not charging their fees during this time. It is also important to keep physical exercise as a part of your routine. Joe Wicks, otherwise known as The Body Coach, has been keeping kids healthy with daily 10 minute workouts for children on his Youtube channel. Ms Anderson said:” It can be anything from running around the garden, walking the dog, a game of football or dancing around your living room!” 12.Who is the text intended for? A.Student. B.Teachers. C.Coaches. D.Parents. 13.What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 3 refer to? A.Homeschooling. B.Tutoring service. C.A regular timetable. D.Difficult time: 14.What may Nicola Anderson agree? A.To offer children peaceful study environment. B.To allow children to adjust schedule freely. C.To recommend high-tech to online schools. D.To combine routine with kids' mental heath. 15.What is the text mainly about? A.How to improve homeschooling efficiency. B.How to obtain online learning resources. C.How to study attentively at home. D.How to design a proper schedule. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Do Well in Exams Do not underestimate the power of revision in the days and hours before an examination. The closer you are to the exam, the more chance you have of storing and retaining crucial information. But do not overdo it. ___16____An effective daily routine can help you through an exam period, so in the days leading up to your first exam, get into the habit of being up and ready to work by game. It can be a shock to the system after months of working to your own timetable to be mentally alert at that time if you have not prepared for it. On the day of the exam, have a good breakfast, pack two of everything you need (pens, pencils, erasers, etc.), then make your way to the examination hall in good time. ____17___ Once in your seat, simply pause for a few seconds and collect your thoughts. Close your eyes and take in a few slow, deep breathes to help you relax. When you turn over the test paper, spend a short period reading through all the instructions and questions, paying particular attention to key verbs such as “discuss”, “compare” and “evaluate”. ____18___It is wise always to allow for 10 minutes at the end of the exam to give yourself time to go back over your answers. Once you have selected the questions you wish to tackle, begin by attempting the one you think is your strongest. It will give you more confidence when you see a wellanswered question down on paper. Also remember to write clearly, and do not be afraid to express the unexpected: after all, examiners can get very bored marking stereotypical answers. ____19____If you do need something else to focus on to help collect your thoughts, choose a fixture in the room, such as the ceiling or anything else that will not allow you to be distracted. Finally, once you have finished, never hang around outside afterwards to attend the discussion by other students.___20_____ A.Do not arrive too early, though, as other people's anxiety can be infectious, and you may suffer from unnecessary panic. B.Try not to be tempted to look at those around you, or at the clock. C.When you get home, read the examination paper through and look up all the words you didn't understand. D.Sleep, exercise and relaxation are all just as important. E.Map out a quick plan of points you wish to make and how much time you should spend on each question. F.Go and have a wellearned rest, then prepare for your next exam G.Underestimate the test in your mind. Last Friday, after doing all the family shopping in the town. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants, and other acts they would see that night with their brothers or sisters in a low voice. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband’s hand, looking up at him as if to say, “You are my knight in shining armor.” He was smiling and responding in pride, looking back at her as if to say, “You got that right.” The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus.” The ticket lady gave the price. The man’s wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, and his lips began to shake. The father leaned a little closer and asked, “How much did you say?” The ticket lady again gave the price. The man didn’t have enough money. How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn’t have enough money to take them to the circus? Actually we were not wealthy in any sense. So I understand how the kids would feel. I felt sorry for them. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; Paragraph 1 Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. __________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2 That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets. ____________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 【参考答案】 阅读理解: 1-3 CDC 4-7 BCCD 8-11 CADB 12-15 DCBA 16-20 DAEBF 完形填空: 21-25 BAACC 26-30 ADBCB 31-35 ABBCB 语法填空: 36.a 37. cheaper 38. recently 39. which/that 40.be seen 41. to travel 42. impressive 43.speaking 44. that 45.from/by 应用文写作: Dear Tony, I'm glad to know that you will come to our city again and learn Chinese during the coming vocation. China has witnessed great changes in the environment, transportation and education since you left. Our city also takes on a new look: the sky is a lot clearer and the sun is much brighter. Not only can we take a long journey by high-speed train at a speed of over 300 kilometers per hour, but also shared bikes provide us with a more convenient way of traveling. As for our school life we are taught more about our traditional culture which we are proud of. I believe you'll have a good time in China. Looking forward to your visit. Yours, Li Hua 读后续写: Paragraph 1 Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. Then he picked it up and tapped the man on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me,sir. This fell out of your pocket.” The man turned around and saw the money. He knew what was going on. He looked straight into my dad’s eyes, took my dad’s hand in both of his, squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with his lips shaking and a tear running down his cheek, he replied, “ Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my family.” Paragraph 2 That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets. We didn’t go to the circus that night. When I asked Dad why he did so, Dad said, “My child, it was a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation for a father. Surely he wasn’t begging for a handout, but he reminded me of my father, when I was young.” He paused for a while, as if wandering in his memory. “We should appreciate what we have obtained from life and seize every opportunity to help others. We didn’t go to the circus tonight, but we didn’t go without.” 查看更多
