There was almost total silence around us. “I can’t believe I’m here,” the girl spoke up suddenly. I smiled back at her. We were in the house where Mother Teresa lived. The year was 1989.‎ ‎ Patricia was a student from America. She grew up reading about Mother Teresa and dreaming of meeting her some day. She had started saving, from her pocket money and earnings from summer jobs, for her trip to India. “This has been my dream,” she said, unable to contain her excitement.‎ ‎ She was called in. As I waited, I tried to think of something meaningful to say to Mother Teresa in the two minutes I would have with her. I had no idea how long I had spent letting my mind wander. Then I found Patricia was back. “How was it?” I asked her. But before she could answer, it was already my turn.‎ ‎ I was standing before Mother Teresa. She came closer and smiled at me, “Let me bless you, my girl.” I looked at her gentle face and a warm rush filled me. Tears rolled down my cheeks, as I felt her hand on my head. I wanted to speak, but I stood there tongue-tied. Mother.‎ ‎ Teresa blessed me silently. When she was done, I reached for her hand and she let me hold it for a while. I realized my time was over. I managed to say “Thank you” somehow and left.‎ ‎ Patricia was waiting on the bench. We didn’t say a word to each other. We hugged each other, overcome by our experience. We were strangers, worlds apart, bound together by a moment——the moment when Mother Teresa touched our lives and blessed us.‎ ‎21. What was Patricia’s dream?‎ ‎ A. To work in America. B. With Face ID, an iPhone X user simply holds up the device and it recognizes his or her face. “Nothing has ever been simpler, more natural and effortless,” said Phil Schiller. “Face ID is the future of how we unlock our smart-phones and protect our sensitive information.” It is convenient but perhaps a bit horrible.‎ ‎ The system relies on an advanced set of tech packed into the front of the new phone. The dot projector sends out more than 30,000 invisible infrared(红外线) dots, and the infrared camera seizes an image. Apple uses the infrared image and dot pattern and pushes them through neural(神经) networks to create a mathematical model of your face, and then it checks that mathematical model against a stored image seized earlier. Once it detects a match, the phone unlocks. Schiller said Apple took more than a billion images and multiple neural networks to create Face ID. iPhone X will come with an A11 bionic neural engine to process faces. To set it up, hold your iPhone X in front of your face and move your head slowly around. That will become the stored version on your phone.‎ ‎ Face ID is advanced enough to work in the dark, and to learn your face under different circumstances -- so go ahead and wear those fashionable glasses or grow that fashionable beard. Schiller said Apple also worked hard to ensure the technology can’t be easily tricked by things like photographs. “They’ve even gone and worked with professional mask makers and makeup artists in Hollywood to protect against these attempts to beat Face ID,” he said. The tech also requires users’ attention to unlock -- your eyes have to be open, and you can't be looking away, meaning your device should remain safe even if you’re asleep.‎ ‎24. Face ID enables users _______.‎ ‎ A. to hold up the device with less difficulty ‎ B. to unlock their smart-phones much easier ‎ C. to protect the iPhone X from being stolen ‎ D. to make it convenient to store information ‎25. Which of the following is explained in paragraph 2?‎ ‎ A. What the facial recognition is. ‎ ‎ B. Why iPhone X is very popular.‎ ‎ C. How iPhone X’s Face ID works. ‎ ‎ D. Where the system creates images.‎ ‎26. To unlock your device with Face ID, you must_______.‎ ‎ A. expose it to the strong light B. keep yourself wide awake ‎ C. fix your eyes on the screen D. wear no glasses or makeup ‎ C ‎ Childhood bullying (欺凌)may lead to long-lasting health consequences, affecting psycho-social risk factor for cardiovascular(心血管的)health well into adulthood, according to a new study published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.‎ ‎ The study, led by psychology researcher Karen A Mathews of the University of Pittsburgh, tracked a diverse group of over 300 American men from first grade through their early thirties and the findings indicated that being a victim of bullying and being a bully were linked to poor outcomes in adulthood. ‎ ‎ Most research on bullying is based on addressing mental health outcomes, but we wished to examine the potential effect of bullying on physical health and psycho-social risk factors for poor physical health” says Matthews.‎ ‎ The research team studied 500 boys in Pittsburgh public schools in 1987 and 1988, when the boys were in the first grade. Along with regular assessments on psycho-social, behavioral, and biological risk factors for poor health, researchers collected data from children, parents, and teachers on bullying behavior when the participants were 10 to 12 years old.‎ ‎ Matthews and colleagues successfully gathered over 300 of the original study participants when they were in their early thirties to complete questionnaires on psycho-social health factors such as stress levels, diet and exercise and socioeconomic status. Around 260 of the men came into the lab for blood draws, cardiovascular assessments, and height and weight measurements.‎ ‎ The result showed that both childhood bullies and bulling victims had increased psycho-social risk factors for poor physical health. The boys bullying others more in childhood tended to be more aggressive and were more likely to smoke in adulthood, which are both causes for cardiovascular disease. The boys with higher scores for being bullied tended to have more financial difficulties, and more stressful life experiences. They also sensed more unfair treatment. Theses outcomes are also related to risk for cardiovascular disease. 27. How is the new study different from other researches on bullying?‎ ‎ A. It explored the possible physical influence of bulling. B. It analyzed the mental health outcomes of bullying ‎ ‎ C. It tracked a large number of people for a long time.‎ ‎ D. It studied the outcomes of both bullies and bulling victims. ‎ ‎28. How many of the original participants in their early thirties took part in the study? A.500 B.10 to 12. C. Over 300 D. Around 260 29. The last paragraph mainly tells us that for both childhood bullies and bullying victims, __________. A. they tended to be aggressive towards their families B. they might take greater chances of bad health C. they were less likely to smoke when they grew up D. they were more sensitive to unfair treatment ‎30. Which can be the best title of the text ? A. The Rising Concern of Childhood Bullying B. Childhood Bullying Affecting Mental Health C. The Frequent Occurrence of Childhood Bullying in Public Schools D. Childhood Bullying Linked to Health Risks in Adulthood 第二节(共5小题;每题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ The only thing better than a vacation is a well-planned vacation with friends. You'll plan your travel schedule around these loose budget constraints(限制条件).‎ ‎ Plan transportation ‎ Buy plane tickets early to avoid higher prices. Use public transportation if your group is small enough to keep together. Consider renting a car if you're traveling with small children or a larger group.‎ ‎ Choose a destination ‎ 34 Since you're traveling farther, it's best to go with a group that's small and easy to keep together, no more than three or four people. If you know your friends would rather lounge by the beach than go walking all over a city, a trip to a tropical destination might be ‎ the best choice.‎ ‎ Decide on daytime and nighttime activities ‎ Research popular attractions in your destination and share them with your group. 35 This will allow everyone's voice to be heard and ensures that the planners don't have to make all the hard decisions.‎ ‎ Now, it's time to start getting ready to plan the trip.‎ A.
