B For most of her life, Suanne Laqueur’s passion for storytelling was shown on the dance floor. Although Laqueur began writing at a young age, dancing always took center stage. She majored in dance and theater at Alfred University and taught at her mother's dance studio in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, for years. But when her mother was ready to retire and an opportunity opened for Laqueur to take over the studio, she realized she had no interest in taking on the business side of her art: "Owning a studio is a lot of work-financially, logistically. I love the teaching, the choreographing(编舞),the staging, but I didn't want to own it". Yet Laqueur's disinterest in running the studio changed when she became a self-published author. In the fall of 2013, she decided to pursue self-publishing as a way of sharing her first completed novel with friends and family. During the process, she realized that following her true passion-telling stories through writing--made the business of the art worthwhile, and owning that business meant she could direct her writing career however she chose. Starting with her second self-published novel, she began investing more time in marketing and building her audience. Her investment paid off. Since 2014, Laqueur, now 49, has self-published six novels, which collectively have hundreds of ratings and reviews on Goodreads. Her 2016 novel An Exaltation of Larks stole the show at the 25th Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards, topping more than 2,300 entries to win the grand prize. "You have to write the most truthful story to you, and I think self-publishing allows that freedom," she says. "If you work with traditional publishing, it's more about what's marketable. There are trade-offs, which everyone will tell you, but by self-publishing I have control of the book, I have control of the story, and I'm cool with that." 24. From Paragraph 2, we can learn that Laqueur_______. A. wanted to own a publishing house B. didn't like teaching dancing in fact C. was a part-time writer when she was young D. was interested in running her mother's studio 25. What made Laqueur change her attitude to business? A. Her mother's persuasion. B. Self-publishing her novels. C. The desire to make money. D. Her own passion toward art. 26. Which of the following can best replace the phrase "stole the show" in Paragraph 4? A. became a failure. B. was shown to people. C. got all the attention. D. was accidentally stolen. 27. What can be inferred from what Laqueur's said? A. She enjoys the way of self-publishing. B. She will never use traditional publishing. C. Traditional publishing only focuses on the market. D. Self-publishing will replace traditional publishing. C Positive thinking is a significant element of happiness. In order to become a positive thinker, determination and consistency are important. The first thing to know about positive thinking is that everyone can do it. With certain cognitive (认知的) and behavioral changes, we can all become positive thinkers. Another important factor is that being a positive thinker does not mean you become numb to anything that is not working properly in your life or is negative—it just means that you approach life and face challenges with a healthier outlook. Instead of selectively attending to negative events, focus on the positive ones. Then pay attention to the delayed consequences of your behavior rather than the immediate ones. For example, if a job is not going like you want, focus on the fact that you have a job and how you can take your time to make the situation better. Challenge any internal attributions and see if you compare your behavior to standards that are excessively rigid and perfectionistic. If so, change these and be reasonable with your. comparisons. For example, if you constantly compare your weaknesses with other people's strengths, then switch this and compare yourself with those who are doing poorer than you as well. Overall, people who focus more on their strengths than their weaknesses but at the same time are aware of their weaknesses have a healthier self-evaluation result. When faced with too much fear about a situation, imagine the worst case and visualize a solution for it, then let go of fear. This way, you will be prepared for anything and your fear will not block you from being open and creative to different solutions. For example, if you are constantly worried about losing your job up to a point where it is creating a lot of anxiety and fear and is effecting your performance and your happiness negatively, then think of losing your job, visualize how you will handle it, find solutions in your mind and then let go of the thought and the fear attached to it. So positive thinkers are better problem solvers and have better interactions. In addition to that, people who are positive thinkers are happier and more satisfied with their life. 28. Why is positive thinking a significant element of happiness? A. It means that one is blind to the troubles and difficulties that exist. B. It means that one constantly compares everything with other people's. C. It means that one is strong in mind and has nothing to be afraid of. D, It means that one approaches life and faces challenges more healthily. 29. What does the text suggest about the job you don't like? A. Quitting it and finding a better one. B. Challenging yourself with a new outlook. C. Being negative and numb to it. D. Keeping and trying to make it better. 30. What does the author intend to tell us in paragraph 4? A. Be prepared for the worst and let go of fear. B. Being constantly worried will lose your job. C. Fear will not prevent you being open and creative. D. There is nothing to fear if well prepared. 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. How to focus on the positive events B. How to be a positive thinker C. What to do when faced with fear D. What to know of self-evaluation D Blue Planet II's latest episode focuses on how plastic is having a devastating effect on the ocean and slowly poisoning our sea creatures. Researchers recently also found that sea creatures living in the deepest place on Earth, the Mariana Trench, have plastic in their stomachs. Indeed, the oceans are drowning in plastic. Though it seems now that the world couldn't possibly function without plastics, consumer plastics are a remarkably recent invention. The first plastic bags were introduced in the 1950s, the same decade that plastic packaging began gaining in popularity in the United States. This growth has happened so fast that science is still catching up with the change. Plastics pollution research, for instance, is still a very early science. We put all these plastics into the environment and we still don't really know what the outcomes are going to be. What we do know, though, is disturbing. Ocean plastic is estimated to kill millions of marine animals every year. Nearly 700 species, including endangered ones, are known to have been affected by it. One in three leatherback turtles, which often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, have been found with plastic in their bellies. Ninety percent of seabirds are now eating plastics on a regular basis. By 2050, that figure is expected to rise to 100 percent. And it's not just wildlife that is threatened by the plastics in our seas. Humans are consuming plastics through the seafood we eat. I could understand why some people see ocean plastic as a disaster, worth mentioning in the same breath as climate change. But ocean plastic is not as complicated as climate change. There are no ocean trash deniers(否认者), at least so far. To do something about it, we don't have to remake our planet energy system. This is not a problem where we don't know what the solution is. We know how to pick up garbage. Anyone can do it. We know how to dispose(处理) of it. We know how to recycle. We can all start by thinking twice before we use single—use plastic products. Things that may seem ordinary, like using a reusable bottle or a reusable bag—when taken collectively, these choices really do make a difference. 32. Why is plastics pollution research still a very early science? A. The plastics pollution research is too difficult. B. Plastics have produced less pollution than coal. C. The world couldn't possibly function without plastics. D. Plastics have gained in popularity too fast for science to catch up. 33. How did the author support his opinion in Paragraph 3? A. He presented statistics. B. He cited quotes from leading experts. C. He used examples from his own experience. D. He used the strategy of comparison and contrast. 34. What can we infer about climate change? A. Climate change is caused by human activities. B. Some people cast some doubts about climate change. C. Climate change is less important than ocean pollution. D. Ocean plastic is more complicated than climate change. 35. What is the main idea of this passage? A. Ocean plastic is a global issue. B. The oceans become choked with plastic. C. Blue Planet II has left viewers heartbroken. D. Plastics gain in popularity all over the world. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Gift giving has been a long tradition and is rooted in our DNA. In the past, gift giving was popular with our ancestors. 36 There has been a considerable amount of research over the years into the feelings when we give gifts to those we care about. The reasons why gift giving can stand the test of time are as follows: Make people feel happy. In studies where people were asked to give gifts as a part of an experiment, the result was that people actually felt better and happier about their own lives. 37 Research suggests that giving gifts may improve a person's state of mind. If gift giving makes you feel happier with a sense of purpose, then this may inevitably improve your state of mind. Establish greater social connection. By giving a gift, you not only express your feelings but also build a stronger connection to that person as well. 38 This greater social connection also means an improvement in the state of being as well as overall happiness. Influence others to imitate it. 39 When a person starts giving gifts, not only will the receiver become more likely to give, but also those around them who see this act will start giving as well. Gift giving is spread across all cultures around the world, from celebrating birthdays, anniversaries offering good luck, showing love and affection, to just saying thanks. Gifts are given to family members, friends, those we work with and even neighbors. 40 A. Improve state of mind. B. Help people contact others. C. It is better to give than to receive. D. The act of giving has an effect on others around. E. In brief, gifts are given to everyone for all occasions. F. The receiver as well as the giver feels closer to each other. G. Today, gift giving exists nearly every corner throughout the world. 第三部分:语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 My father always told me: "All work is noble." Over 120 different types of animals are kept at present in the zoo. This number does not include the different types of fish, birds and snakes which are also kept here.
